Torc STEPS

Lungs are improving, and if they don't get worse after today then that's a positive. Debated going for a shorter run this morning but decided to see how I felt when I started running. Once on the road there was no debate, was heading for Torc Steps to see what sort of time I'd do on the Strava Segment, wasn't expecting to top the pile, just wanted to dip my toe in the pond to see what I'd need to do. Last time running was a week ago! Really unimpressed with my current training.

Legs felt a bit sore running, knees and foot. Red mark on middle toe on right foot afterwards, really need to sort out my feet this week. Get something done. I feel HR was a bit on the high side too for the run.

Got as far as the bottom of the steps, felt like i'd give them a go anyways, and didn't feel too scared of them. Bad start though, after about 5 steps I tripped and fell. Up and off again. Tried to keep a rhythm going. Was tough going though. Resorted to walking on a number of occasions, but tried to keep moving. Passed one man walking down and a woman walking up. This climb is a killer. Eventually got onto the drag after the steps and was able to increase the pace. The final steps then had to be faced, just straight, no bends. The gradient increased as the steps went on, and near the end I again was walking, wrecked. Fastest time is 9.42 but I ran 11.16. Considering the way my lungs were I can definitely find 90 seconds I reckon. Give me a few weeks and this segment will be mine!

After that it was all downhill until the waterfall. Body wasn't moving too fast, was in recovery mode. On the run back from Torc to home I wasn't feeling too great but kept a steady pace going, not slow, but not as fast as normal.

Happy to have got this run done ahead of another poor training week I reckon, grrrr.

More of a lung test than anything else. Didn't feel up to running so decided this would test test the lungs a small bit. Felt them early on, under more pressure than usual, but they got better. Also found the starting gear a bit tough so reduced it by 1 which was grand. HR looks a bit high for reading a book!

Lateish night last night in Cork. Feeling tired this afternoon as a result. Lungs not better but improved, thankfully. Not sure about training tomorrow. We'll see. Have a busy day planned, bought flour so i'm going to make pancakes for breakfast, and also plan on baking some bread. Got a 1st birthday party to attend in the afternoon so will have cake to eat there, ladybird birthday cake is going to be gluten free:-) And there'll be buns to eat too. So maybe training is a good idea if i've all that eating to do. Bought some pizza bases in Cork today so making a pizza for dinner tomorrow.

Bought new X-talons in Cork today, saw they'd the newer ones in 53 degrees north so decided to be impulsive. Nice.

Another day of rest. Got Mary's graduation to attend in Cork this afternoon followed by dinner, so training doesn't fit on the agenda. The way i'm feeling it wouldn't have fitted anyway, some improvement so have to take the positives from that, so hoping to be in reasonable shape to get some training done over the weekend.

Lungs still wonky, short of breath I feel, so giving training a rest until the weekend.

Have come up with some weekend ideas:

Saturday - Usual loop, have a birthday party to go to around 2
Sunday - Run from home to bottom of Torc, along the path towards Dinish, up the steps and home. See what sort of time I get on the Strava segment up the steps.

slept:7.0 (rest day)

Not feeling 100% still, wondering if I need a doctor or to just stick it out. Lungs not working right, we'll see how the night goes, and throat a small bit sore.

Physio session went well, legs aren't in too bad a shape, even the quads but not convinced that they are as good as she thinks she is, although found a few sore spots later in the session.

The bad news is that the physio has suggested that I got to a foot specialist/podiatrist type person who'd know more about foot mechanics. I need support for my right foot. The front part of it has dropped a bit so is therefore taking additional impact that won't have a happy ending unless fixed. Will give them a ring tomorrow. New orthotics!

Feeling lethargic this morning. Getting up off my chair at work is difficult. The muscles in my legs don't feel too tired, just generally tired. Some would call it feeling lazy.

Well worth the trip to England to celebrate Magic's 40th. Really enjoyed myself, and great to catch up with everyone.

Long day at work today, at a public exhibition in Templenoe until around 9.30. Will be there from 3.

Start of an easy week. Need some inspiration for next weekend, must come up with some sort of a good idea for Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully the weather is good.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Physio (rest)
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Rest (Mary's Graduation)
Friday - Rest (Day off work so not sure if i'll get to train, if I do it'll be a bonus)
Saturday - ??
Sunday - ??
