Whitechurch-Blackstone Bridge-Rathduff-Bottlehill-Carrignavar-Whitechurch-Sluggeragh-Farm Power-Whitechurch

Bit of a breeze blowing out there this morning, got 1k down the road and remembered that i'd no toolkit with me so turned around and went home again for it. Nice speed through the cross and on down the hill. Felt ok heading downhill. Then turned onto the mallow road and spotted 2 bikes in front of me, nice target to pass on the hill up towards Killeens. One of the lads had TdeM kit on, 2013 version, kudos for being out on the bike again this weekend whoever you are.

Road goes up and down towards Rathduff, but felt ok on the climbs and didn't push too hard on the flatter sections. Was building up for the Bottlehill KOM. Attacked the hill hard trying to keep the pace up. Got the KOM so happy. Felt crap though on the hill after the whitechurch/burnfort junction. Stopped at the top to take off the armwarmers. Body felt better and fast pace from there to Carrignavar, fall of ground with me. Some sort of event on in Carrignavar today, few cars, and vintage tractors around. Gel before Carrignavar. Didn't feel too hungry on the bike today.

Then the 2nd of the KOMs of the day, Carrignavar-Whitechurch, wasn't expecting much from it as I knew the leading time was good. 3rd fastest, only 23 seconds to find.

Then outside the church I got stung, around the jaw. Sore. Kept on going down the school road, was expecting to fly down there but serious headwind so felt like I was going nowhere. Then turned onto the old mallow road back towards Rathpeacon. Nice speed along this road, wind not into my face anyway and level enough.

Wasn't expecting the road up from Farm Power to the 4 cross roads to be as slow as it was, unexpected climb. Knew there was an increase in gradient but was tougher than I thought. Then turned up the post office road and kept it going until home. Knew the avg speed was good for the ride, 32kph, happy with that. So the munster champs lads did 8.44 from the cross roads to the village, I did 11.56 on my own.

Muckross & Blue Pool

Decided to head down the hill rather than up to see if that would help the legs. form felt off balance to start and knees sore downhill but think I got moving beter once into Bluepool. Had planned on heading in the middle of the 3 forest roads down the hill but instead went into the blue pool forest, slowly through that, found a timber construction, and then onto the looped path where I did a loop.

In hindsight doing that route into Bluepool may have been silly, TICKS, found a few already and more to discover as the evening and days ahead go on.

Went back up the road from Bluepool and in the lower of the forest roads. Followed that uphill until the end of the field to the left, cut into the forest again to go straight up to the higher of the 3 roads, my usual escape road. Out onto the road and back home.

Definitely feeling better today, but in saying that the knees are still sore, some stiffness in my calves, and slight feeling in my achilles. So can't say things are good but better than Monday.

Avg Cadence = 83rpm

Would have been a shocker of an evening to go cycling in, rain didn't quite clear, nasty day.

Legs felt a small bit tired on the bike. Planned on 20 to see if that'll help loosen out the legs. Did some stretching afterwards.

Will run for 30-40 tomorrow and see what happens. Plan on taking it easy on Saturday and Sunday, nothing planned.

Muckross - Friday Loop

Another frustrating day in the forest. Really pissed off tonight, legs were painful. Achilles are fine so that's good, but quads are shite. Left knee sore to start off with, then right quad really stiffened up. To say I was unhappy is an understatement, no running for a month and it doesn't fix the problem with 3/4 physio sessions thrown in for good measure. I need more. Calves also were sore near the end of the run. Overall it's not good, reason quad was in trouble was down to compensating for the knee, knew early on that my running wasn't right, balance was wrong and felt like I was limping.

Don't think i'll bother with cycling tomorrow due to way quad felt on bike yesterday but might change my mind later.

Muckross-Aghadoe-Lissyviggeen-Woodlawn-Muckross

Plan was to attempt 3 KOMs, only managed 1. Right quad felt tight and therefore when cycling I felt unbalanced so wasn't too comfortable pedalling. Was ok going up Aghadoe but once over the top the body wasn't feeling great. Got blood sugars a bit wrong, too high, so that probably wasn't helping.

Did have a dozy woman driver at the hostel in Fossa, lets drive out into the middle of the road, realise that the cars that were coming down the hill were close, hesitated, and then stalled, with me having to go behind her onto a surface I was unsure of. Stupid driving!

Took in Lissyviggeen as cars coming as I headed past the Woodlawn junction, no harm in an extra km or too. Bit of a breeze blowing tonight too so that was also not helpful to my mood.

As it turns out I didn't beat my KOM on Aghadoe, equalled it, 3.15 again, so want to drop it below 3, which will be very hard.

Not looking forward to running tomorrow, bit pessimistic with how my legs are feeling. But will still give it a lash.

HR also giving trouble today for the first couple of km, no was it was that high, not pedalling going downhill. Managed to keep the avg over 30 (30.5) despite being stuck behind a bus along Port Road, was going to attempt the KOM along that road up to the roundabout, see what sort of improvement I needed, but gave up pretty quickly due to the bus.
