Muckross

Leg tester, before breakfast, didn't go as i'd hoped. Left achilles felt a small bit sore early on but felt ok once warmed up. Then after 5 minutes the left knee started to hurt. And after around 15 the left hamstring felt a bit tight, but that's definitely due to not having run in nearly a month and because of the cycling.

Will run again on Tuesday for longer, 10k, and see how that goes. Legs were tired this morning after yesterday so the quads wouldn't have been in top shape.

Just after I got back in the door it started to rain so that was lucky.

Have to change plans for tomorrow. Cycling Ireland don't allow day licences anymore for racing so since I don't have one I can't race tomorrow. Pity they've change the rules from last year, certainly can't be a positive thing for Cycling Ireland if they have any interest in boosting the racing scene.

So it'll be the Ring of North Kerry instead, 120km.

Muckross-Woodlawn-Glenflesk-Barraduff-Muckross

Half day from work, so had to do something for the afternoon. Bit of a breeze blowing, think from the southwest so benefitted from it heading out towards Glenflesk. Legs feeling alright. Went faster overall than i'd intended, just got into a rhythm so kept it going. Body was able to manage and not feel like it was suffering. Did have HR issues starting off, noticed it was up around 230bpm at the Gleneagle so pulled over to fix the HR strap, once i'd taken it off and put it back on again my HR had dropped by around 100bpm. Definitely something funny going on there with the equipment.

Nice evening out. Noticed today that i've got a tan line on my left wrist, arm is darker than my hand due to wearing cycling gloves.

Decent average speed, 32.1kph, but avg HR was a bit above what i'd have liked before 120km tomorrow, good workout nonetheless.

Tralee-Finuge-Lixnaw-Abbeydorney-Tralee

Hung on with John, Tom and Barry to give the rest a head start. Took a while to start motoring, pretty much at the climb out of Tralee. Pace kicked off with people taking turns on the climb. Stopped with the others at the top before starting off again. We dropped John at the group. Then from there to Listowel it was just a hammerfest, and the hammerfest didn't stop there, all the way to Lixnaw, with the bit from Finuge to Lixnaw into the wind.

Since there was only 3 of us it was short turns, no talking either, just pedalling. Slight ease off around Lixnaw but then kicked off to Abbeydorney.

Was not looking forward to Listellick hill but we stopped in Abbeydorney for Barry to stretch his back and from there home the pace wasn't hectic.

Fast spin this evening.

Muckross-Kilcummin-Muckross

Headed out for a recce of the race route for Saturday. Felt ok on the flat but flat on the climbs. Didn't push too hard so took it easy. Was concerned about getting wet, some rain falling on the Reeks on the way home plus some rain heading into Killarney. Wet roads up near Lawlors Cross but I didn't get wet which is the important thing.

The roads up from Coolcorcoran towards Kilcummin is a bit rough. Then there are a few steep ramps. Not sure if I did the exact route, if I didn't then I did a hillier route as opposed to turning left in the village up past Mountain View.

Stupid woman driver on the tralee road roundabout, came on and blocked my exit, tit. Also had a taxi earlier that I reckon tried to block my progress on the inside around Woodlawn. Lot of traffic coming in from Muckross this evening.

Weight is up for some reason! Need to go on a diet...

Physio 1:00:00 [0]
slept:6.5

Legs not too bad, still some achilles issues so have been told to do some work on them myself a few times a day, that'll be fun. Physio had a good look at my left knee but didn't find anything so will see what happens when I get around to running again. Got the ok to do some easy running, so thinking of that for Sunday or Monday next as i've biking commitments the rest of the week.

Muckross-Glencar-Caragh Lake-Killorglin-Muckross

Nice spin out but was having 2nd thoughts starting off due to a headwind heading out to Fossa. Kept the HR around the 130 mark. Took laps at the hour mark and the 2 hour mark. Covered 28.3km for hour 1 and 29.57 for the 2nd hour.

Had to do a quick stop early on to pick up a dropped gel, fell out when I was fishing out some food. The spin up to Lough Acoose was grand, felt ok very gradual climb. Did notice that the gears are making noise when high up on the back. So kept it mid-range.

Nice descent then to Glencar but road got pretty bumpy just after the turn off. Stopped at blackstone bridge for a short break. Didn't feel too bad though. Then the lumpy stuff started along by the lake, felt much better this week than last Saturday and was faster too.

Got the KOM on Treanmanagh, 32 seconds on Derry. More there if needs be. Heading in to Killorglin I did debate taking in Sunhill but decided to just get home. Felt fast and strong all the way back from Killorglin. Averaged 36kph from Killorglin to Killarney, happy. Pleased with how I felt with the last 20k.

Good day out.
