Muckross-Farranfore-Castlemaine-Milltown-Faha-Muckross

Thought about Killorglin direction but saving that for Monday. Bit of a windy day, but not as bad as Thursday evening, a southwesterly. Got as far as Brennans Glen and it started to rain so stopped to put on my jacket. Kept it on until Farranfore as there was the fast descent and my top was a bit wet. So took it off and headed west, into the wind to Castlemaine.

Just before Castlemaine the rain started again so stopped for the jacket. Then at the junction with the Tralee road i'd to take evasive action into pot holes full of water due to the stupid driving of a jeep with a Laois reg, stopped in the road for no reason. Then got nearly blown off the bike by a gust of wind associated with a torrential downpour but managed to stay upright and then made the decision to take shelter, luckily the funeral home had a nice bit of an eaves to shelter under. Rain got heavier as I waited.

Finally dried off so hit the road (wet) again. But took off the jacket a couple of km later in Milltown, the sun was out and the road was bone dry. On the way home at this stage and felt good all the way back from Milltown to home. Think it must have been to Castlemaine that my left quad was hurting for a bit, think I remember that happening anyway. Also an annoying click in my bike, will put some oil on and see if that helps, otherwise it's going to drive me mad.

Muckross-Fossa-Aghadoe-Bypass-Lough Guitane-Muckross

Just went out to take 2 of Derry's KOMs on Strava, Aghadoe and Lough Guitane. Mission accomplished.

Bit of wind blowing this evening and some tiredness in my legs. Pushed on the climbs but not 100%, more there if I need to do them again.

A few drops of rain going but didn't get wet. Took it easy coming back along Lough Guitane as there's still gravel on the road after it was resurfaced a couple of months ago.

Bike with me at work for cycling later but an Orange weather alert certainly isn't positive especially as it relates to water falling from the sky.

Forgot to mention last night that my left knee/quad issue isn't great. Knee sore when I jogged collecting controls and afterwards. Still sore today. Not impressed, i'll say it again for the umpteenth time at this stage, more stretching needed!

Tralee-Castleisland-Farranfore-Castlemaine-Tralee

Chain Gang spin, 9 in the group and a serious 9. All the big guns were out including the climbing machine that is Canice.

Stormy day but dried up for the evening, windy though. Think we missed some showers too as the road was wet in places but only for a short stretch.

Tough start out to Castleisland into a headwind. Group worked ok here but not so for the rest of the spin, very unco-ordinated. Pace picked up towards Farranfore, really fast cycling, and didn't get any better once past the level crossing on the Fieries road. Serious pace along here, bit too much for me on the flat, tough to hang on.

Heading out from Castlemaine John suggested that we keep the pace constant for the climb, keeping the group together until the last km. I was on the front at the end of the climb, then Ken did a big turn, pace around 28kph, Colin then upped it to around 29kph. Kms started to tick down, they are marked on the road. Started to feel the climb with around 3km to go but kept pushing. At 1km to go things really heated up but I just stuck on the wheel in front of me, Canice and Colin had gone but I wasn't even looking at that move. Chalkey was in front of me so I stuck to his wheel and he was worried that I followed him when he made his move with around 500 to go on the outside of the group, Barry and Christo were gone at this stage. I kept the power down and left the group behind, felt strong but under a lot of pressure (reflected in the HR), my pace was high and I reeled in Colin who had blown and crossed a few seconds down on Canice.

Then came the descent, had to push on hard when John came past but stuck at it and caught himself and Ken just before the straight. Chalkey was there too ahead of us but didn't have the legs to stay when myself John and Canice went through. I followed Johns wheel and when he increased the pace I knew it was time to kick and got ahead of himself and Canice to cross the Lacey Cup line ahead.

Good spin tonight despite the wind, decent avg speed, 34.3kph!!!

Derry commented on Strave with regards my cycle yesterday, "no achievements tonight??". Think i'll head out his direction over the weekend and see how many of his KOMs I can beat, think he has a couple of small ones. It'll be something to do anyways.

Ballyseedy

Controls out (20) and in (12, got a hand). Time is a bit rough, GPS issues, forgot to start and then stop it, and distance is therefore an estimate. Event was a success, they enjoyed it so that's positive. Next will have to get them to a Sunday event which I reckon there will be interest in doing.

Crosstown-Bypass-Port Road

Turned up for my physio appointment at 5, there were 2 cars parked outside so that had me confused. 4pm appointment left and physio came over to me to say that she never put me in the diary for this week, had me down for next week by mistake!!! Wasn't going to hang around so headed home and since I wasn't going to the physio then training was on the cards.

Didn't feel too motivated, was hungry, and felt tired setting out. Bit cloudy but dry. Was thinking of Ladies View but lack of motivation to go climbing so headed out towards Minish and then up Crosstown. Quick stop at Dineen's garage, there was a new white Leon parked outside, looked nice but not for me.

There was a climb up from the garage to to the N72, a few steeper bits. Then back towards Lissyviggeen.

Took in the bypass and Port Road before going home. 30km in total so another cycle that'll take an hour.

New phone in action today too, more technology to play with.

Sorted out orienteering gear for tomorrow, putting out 20 controls in one go is going to be fun, 20 kites on canes and 20 si boxes on canes, kerryo kit. But due to the size of the area it'll be 1 control per 100m i'd say on average!

Legs starting to feel a small bit tired but reckon if I can get another session on the bike done this evening then they'll get to recover over the next couple of days. Happy with the cycling i've been doing but hopefully news from the physio tomorrow will be positive so maybe i'll get back running. Lacking ideas for the rest of the week, might fill it in after the physio.

Monday - Cycling
Tuesday - Physio
Wednesday - Orienteering Event Organising
Thursday - Cycling (Chain Gang)
Friday - ?
Saturday - ?
Sunday - ? (MickDineen Cycle in Ballingeary, maybe)

Note
(rest day)

Tired so decided i'd take the evening off. Legs feel tired too so that's the main reason, some sore muscles and don't want them feeling any worse ahead of an hour of pain tomorrow.
