Jog from car to the start on the crags with Joshosh and Robrunner. Nice day for it. Didn't feel too bad on the hill up, some walking towards the last bit.

The Crags

Had to decide between a 2005 course or a 2006 course. Tried to check the results online before leaving home but they wouldn't load, so chose the 2006 course as I was pretty certain I didn't run that event.

First couple of controls had some climb so that was a struggle. Was confident enough in my location. Stopped short for 3 and the boulder was small. Not certain of 4, a few form line hills around there (looking at QR, I missed the hill to start with). 5 was nice, run across the marsh then drop down to the control. 6 was longish uphill with some contouring but happy with my navigation. Boulder on the hill was very small. 7 was uphill, stopped slightly short but then saw the boulder.

8 was a fantastic leg. Really enjoyed it. Long leg downhill all the way with nice running. Plenty of features to pick off on the way down too so easy enough to navigate too.

Took a break on the way to 9, met the lads who were doing the 2005 course. Did some contouring on the way, was thinking of going more direct. Got the control fine, some nice attackpoints before it.

Then the rough stuff started as it was the steep slope home. Moved ok and got 10 grand. Missed 11, think I ended up on a hill to the north of it but relocated ok from there. Then some steep descending to get back across the fence.

Happy enough with my orienteering but really uncertain of my body. Chest not great but legs felt ok.

Downhill along the track back to the car. Definitely running out of steam by the time I got to the car.

Note

Bit of soul searching in the last few days regarding WOC, would I be right in time, made the call that I will be so flights booked:-)

Crohane

Bit of an effort shifting 25 posts up the mountain to start off with. But I was soon dropping them off, nice few controls close-by to start off with so was down to 15 before the climbing really started.

Calm to start off with and felt humid. Took a break for a few minutes at one point before going on to get the last 10 out. Did a small bit of running coming back down the hill but didn't have the motivation at the end to keep running through some tougher stuff.

I'd say I was within 10m of bambi before it jumped out of the heather and ran off.

At least phase 1 of putting controls out is now complete. Phase 2 is planned for Thursday.

Note

Got a call from the doctor this afternoon. Chest x-results came back and everything normal, hear and lungs ok. She recommended I come in and see another doctor so did. Went in after work so delayed my planned trip to Crohane. He'd a look, and again heard nothing in my lungs. Did a spirometry test and that turned out ok. He's sending me to see a consultant next week, doctor recomends him. So i'm either a hypochondriac or needs a specialist to find out what's wrong. Plan on pushing the lungs on Sunday training and again on Tuesday, it's a case of seeing if they break or not.

Put out more posts, much later than planned but it was a lovely evening. Only trouble with one control, people are going to have fun out there.

Spotted a few deer this evening, still trying to get them on camera, only a few more opportunities to do that.

So that's 29 sites with posts, will get the rest tomorrow.

Ran some of the downhills, all the way back to the car. Did lose some data as I stopped the watch out there.

Going to take it easy today and maybe tomorrow too. Chest wasn't great last night so will give it a chance to recover. Getting pretty fed up with it at this stage as there's nothing I can do about it.

Put out SI posts for 16 controls. All close by. Checked one other site where I spent the most time, didn't see the tag when I passed by so stopped to check. Should have read control description!

Lovely evening out there.

Small bit of jogging, ran back along the fence, when I was putting out a post I forgot to see what the stile nearby looked like.

Think ground has dried a tiny bit in places.

Not sure what my chest is at, don't think it has liked the training too much so going to take it easy tomorrow. Got frightened when I saw my illness on the AP, 26+ days!!!!!! Can't say i'm cured yet.

Will try that thing called running when I get home. No surprise that i'm a small bit nervous, just hoping it goes ok.

Not sure my Giro transfers made much of a difference.

Muckross

Ran from the Abbey car park. Decided to drive down there and use it as a starting point as running options from the house involve some form of steep climb. Felt it would be flatter from the Abbey, but I did realise I was facing a hill at the start to get past the farm.

Overall think the HR was a bit high. Lungs were ok as they were never really under any pressure but felt that if more oxygen was required then that would be a problem! So will see how things are tomorrow after this exertion. I kept my eye on the HR, was around 160 for a bit so tried to slow down, felt like I was crawling but HR still stayed high. At least the graph is correct.

Really nice evening for a run, probably had too much clothes on but wasn't sure what it'd be like running, and if i'd actually finish the run.
10 PM

Note

Still breathing so that's a start.

Think i'll go to Crohane tomorrow and put out a few SI stakes, got around 30 in the shed. Old type so they'll do for 16 of my controls. Not too far from ground zero so an easy evening.

slept:6.5 (rest day)

So wonder what my body will let me do this week...
Chest has improved but I really don't know if it's 100%, doesn't feel it but nearly there. My throat has been a small bit sore at times over the last few days but not sure of the cause of it. Will ring the doctor later to see if the chest x-ray results are back. Not going to go by any set training ideas this week, just see what I feel like on the day with the goal being not to push things. I will need energy for what i've got planned next week with regards to Shamrock preparations, and of course there is the Shamrock itself to get through.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Bike/Easy Run
Wednesday - ?
Thursday - Bike/Run
Friday - ?
Saturday - Crohane (put out a few control posts, if I can get them)
Sunday - Crohane (put out a few control posts)
