Chest is definitely improving, so will make a decision on whether to train tomorrow but at this stage i'm inclined to leave it another day or 2 to be safe.

Body is very sore in places after yesterday, just not used to manual labour!

The good news is that I think the Shamrock Courses are done finally ready:-)

Tough day at the office lifting fence crossing materials up the mountain. Arms and body was tired afterwards. Ferried stake and big metal bar up to highest crossing, then back to the dump the lads made on Thursday to bring more stakes over with Brian to the lower crossing. Not as nice as yesterday but the heavy rain certainly didn't materialise.

Thanks, to Bobby, Jim, Willie & Brian for the work. The fence crossings will certainly be used again as they won't be taken down!

Chest improving, decided i'll train on Monday after I ring doctor to see if those chest x-ray results are back, sure i've WOC to train for...

Misssion today was simple, check the map around one control site close to the start, then go check the two new fences. Brought cycling GPS to give a 2nd opinion to my Forerunner, and from the eye a couple of small tweaks are needed. Not important for this event but might as well get it right now.

Glorious morning, did at one point think I was in for some rain, but in fact it turned into bluer skies.

Not much growth yet on the mountain which is good news for a couple of weeks time, and didn't find it excessively wet, just normal amount of swamp.

Did get delayed near the end of the fence I was checking, spotted 2 sheep tangled together in some barbed wire. So made a few phone calls to let the owners know, and i'm informed they'll be sorted later. Didn't have gloves or have no experience with sheep, so decided not to get involved directly!

On the issue of distance, my bike gps covered more ground but I was holding that in my hand which was swinging as I walked, the gps on my wrist was more stable as I was holding the map in that hand. They had the same HR data, both GPS picked up the HR data.

Chest is maybe a small bit better but not able to run.

Another sheep incident at lunch. Was sitting on my couch and 4 sheep went running past my window! Man came after them and herded them back out, but no idea where they came from, havn't noticed any fields of sheep nearby apart from the 2 sheep down the road, but it wasn't those sheep.

Spent at least 4 hours on OCAD this afternoon and tonight. Have got the map ready to put the courses onto now, spent a lot of time messing with logos too, a common problem amongst the Shamrock planners. Anyway that issue is definitely sorted now. Next one is whether to go with the 1:15 option for elites, it might just happen, wait and see...

Not sure what to make of my chest, can't say it's improving anyway fast. Don't intend to try training until Monday or Sunday, who knows!
Plan for my day off tomorrow is to head up to Crohane for a walk, check the fences and maybe a boulder or 2.

Decided to remove a control on the M21E course as I wasn't too confident in the control, reduces the length by 100m, happy days for the 30 elites taking part.

The other planners have been messing around with getting logos on the map! I put one on as a jpeg, background map, but it does some rastering when you try to pdf if. Bumping up the dpi to 600 at this stage seems to work out alright without affecting print quality or file size. Have a good few hours to spend working on the map though between now and Saturday. Not on the courses but on getting the map to fit on an A4 page (not the M21E, they've to go A3!).

I think it's Coeliac Awareness Day this week, possibly even today! Allegros in Killarney are doing Gluten Free Fish & Chips today, I think I have to go there for dinner.

Got to sleep easier last night and slept better so that's a positive. Still when I woke up the chest hasn't improved that much, probably some bit though. Will be a few more days of rest:-( But do think i'll have to go for a stroll, rather than a run, on Crohane either Friday or Saturday.

When I was getting prescription yesterday evening on my way home, the pharmacist wasn't too quick to give it to me, she'd to ring the doctor first as something flagged up on their system. Not a good idea to take the anti-biotics when you use the inhaler I do, something about causing heart trouble. So back on a ventolin inhaler for the next week.

Ticked the 'ill' box again. Suppose i've not much of a choice, a healthy person wouldn't be getting their chest x-rayed later. Been prescribed more anti-biotics too, more a precaution than a necessity. The doctor did a blood-oxygen saturation test too, not that serious, thing just goes on your finger, and the reading is normal, which is good.

Will just take it handy for a few days more and see how things go.

FRUSTRATING!!!

Chest is acting up again so going to take a few days rest to see if that helps, will decide tomorrow if it's bad enough for a visit to the doctor. Not too bad but not good to have anything wrong with it in the first place.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - Orienteering (Crohane, test running for Day 3)
Friday - Orienteering (Crohane, checking last bits)
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Cycling
