slept:7.5 (rest day)

Very tempted to go running but don't think it's a good idea, not feeling right so better to take a day off than to risk things at this stage. Chest not feeling too bad but not 100%.

Doesn't look too bad outside either...

Crohane

Went to check the remaining control sites. Also had a look at my latest start/finish idea. Had an idea during the week and am pleased with how it looks on the ground.

Fantastic day on the mountain, sun was shining and no wind. Really nice out there, and not that cold either.

Most of the sites I saw today looked good, but need to see how they fit with the legs i've planned. Might change a few things depending on direction.

Pleased to have my 4th visit to Crohane done, now need to shift focus onto the junior courses.

Note

Not feeling too healthy this evening, slight cold last night so hoping it's not gone to my chest, will go to bed early and see what things are like in the morning.

Avg Cadence = 89rpm

Legs feeling a bit on the tired side this evening despite the rest yesterday. Watched 2 episodes of Moone Boy so that was my plan. Not a bad evening outside as I looked out through the window but plan to run for the next 3 days.

Day off training today. Don't feel like I really need one though. But with travelling to Cork and then back later on I don't want to wreck myself. Also have some orienteering gear to collect in Cork. Maps sent to printers earlier for IV's. So can't make any changes now!

Weekend is looking a small bit clearer. Think i'll go to Crohane on Monday. Will start with a longish session on Saturday, maybe to the top of Torc and back, followed by something shorter on Sunday. Getting a small bit worried about the long distance at the JK, don't have any races of that sort of running time done recently so need to get a few longer runs into the mix in the week or so i've got until Easter.

Only 2 laps of the track tonight. Shorter warm-up to get started early before the swarms of kids hit the track.

Legs felt a bit on the tired side.

Nice turnout this evening (Rob, Arthur and John Barrett). Also bright so that was unusual for me to be running in daylight in Castleisland.

So the only blip on the card there was the 3rd interval which was 1 second slower than the other 5. Pleased that they were consistent.

I started the first interval a small bit back from John but closed it on the back straight on the 2nd lap and finished with him. The rest of them I pretty much ran with John who was giving me some running in a pack advice. Then I generally pushed on with 200-250 or so to go. Was ahead of Arthur and Rob who wasn't feeling too good. The 5th interval hurt on the 2nd lap so was concerned that the last one was going to be a struggle. Started it with John again and survived the first lap which was my goal, then hung onto John for the next 300 before pushing on for the last 100. Arthur and Rob went past with 250 gone and finished around 2 seconds in front but I was aiming for consistency and actually finishing the session.

We took a breather then and did 1 more 800 in 2.55 with Siobhán who was running on her own for the session. Was comfortable enough at that pace.

Road warm up/down 21:47 [3] 3.72 km (5:51 / km) +20m 5:42 / km
ahr:137 max:148 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 15 (2)

Did 4 laps of the outside for a warm-down plus a lap or 2 of the track after the interval session, the laps on the track were slow.

Legs feeling a small bit tired but didn't mind the warm-down.

ahr:137 max:149 slept:7.5 weight:71kg

Avg Cadence = 87rpm

The average cadence seems to be dropping recently yet my HR is gone up, maybe i'm pushing a bigger gear, not sure. Dropped a gear for around 10mins, 30-40min, to have a break in the session, legs were tired and needed to ease up, then back to previous setting to finish off. Got through this ok I think, definitely a bit on the tired side.

I've actually done a lot in the last week or so, thinking Thursday will be a rest day, travelling to Cork will be tiring anyways and back again to Kerry later on. So taking a day off then might be sensible.

Watched S2E3 of Game of Thrones.

Note

So last week I wasn't too happy with, body not feeling good at the start of the week and then running badly later in the week. Hopefully things improve this week for the sake of my sanity, do not need another crap week. Blood tests back today so wonder what sort of results they'll turn up, since I was getting the HBA1C done I got a few others done too, things like cholestorol and that coeliac test again.

Training plan for the week:

Monday - Running (try and complete what I planned to do last Thursday)
Tuesday - Turbo Trainer
Wednesday - Running (intervals)
Thursday - Running (in Cork, where & when i'm not sure)
Friday - Rest if I run on Thursday
Saturday - ? (maybe Crohane to check the rest of the sites)
Sunday - ? (probably closer to home whatever I do or don't do)

Muckross - Monday longish run

Lovely evening, very cold but sun was shining. As I neared the entrance to the forest a few snow flakes began to fall, nice. But as I ran on the snow got heavier and heavier. By the time i'd got down around the descent by Torc it was very heavy making seeing where I was going slightly more difficult than it usually is. Snow cleared when I got to the bottom and along by the lake. Really beautiful this evening with snow on the mountains and nice light.

It helped that I actually felt good this evening. Much happier as a result, felt very comfortable apart from near the end when the legs got a small bit tired on the hill home. The run was also pain free so that was another bonus. Was wondering whether this week would be better running wise and i'm definitely pleased with how it's started.

The way my legs were feeling was definitely reflected in the improved time from the last time I did this run, 4mins faster, helped by better underfoot conditions and light to see where i'm running. I do train faster in daylight compared to darkness!

Saw another tennis ball this evening, on the road up near Blue Pool resting on top of a pier.
