Upper Torc

So didn't get the fastest split on 2 legs. To number 2 I was 20 seconds off fastest and to number 10 I was 6 seconds slower than the fastest split. I was a bit hesitant to 2, got stuck in some crap and then didn't expect the control to be as low as it was. To 10 my orienteering was fine but I didn't run full speed on the leg because found it a bit rough.

Not much route choice as I saw it. To 1 I just followed the path before cutting in, through the middle of the fenced area, had planned on following the side of the fence but not much left of the fence. Then 2 I was hesitant. 3 - 7 were straight forward enough. Then across the river before a tough uphill slog to 8, and then more climb to 9. Descent to 11 and more downhill to 12. Happy with the line I took to 12, reckon I avoided some rough shit.

Then road leg to 13 before cutting into the forest to faff about for a bit. Physical going to 14 and then uphill to 15. 16 was fine and then went straight to 17 before another road leg, once you got out of the forest. Slight miss on 19, hit the boulder but went looking the other side of it. Then back through the last few controls, stopped before 21 but hit it ok then, ran past 22, but 23 was ok even though I reckon the control was on either the wrong boulder or the boulder is marked on the wrong place on the map.

What a crap day. It was so wet out there. Didn't stop raining from when I got up and it's still raining. Didn't really bother with a warm-up, and it wasn't a warm-down that I needed when I finished, it was a warm-up. Got very cold when finishing. Legs felt alright today after the run yesterday.

Gougane Barra Horseshoe

With Danny and Dave Bossonet. Not a fast run, bit of walking to wait for Dave at times but wasn't out to kill myself today, just get some running done. Fantastic morning for running so well worth getting out of bed early.

Danny is thinking about having this route as a hill race but the hill running lads chickened out of the recce today. We headed beyond the direct route up by the river to find the track that goes up on the eastern side of the river. Added distance and ended up higher so had to contour round before deciding there would be better running on the ridge. Don't think this route would be faster than the more direct route.

Then just kept plodding across the hills, sticky in places. Body felt fine alright but feet got a bit cold at times due to the cold water in the bogs. Pile of stakes is still there, the way we came at it meant it looked like a boulder in the distance, but an obvious feature. They had been tidied up a bit so were all together.

There was a serious reflection off the lake in the valley the way the sun was shining on it, nice. Good views towards the Borlin Valley. Then walked up the hill to the ridge to keep us together. Ran on along the fence to the start of the orienteering.

Good day out.

Downhill Corridor on Gougane Barra

Started on a higher bit of the map, there was an extra bit outside of the previous map. Started alright, was in good contact, but after leaving the re-entrant with a ruin I dropped too low and as I only had a tiny bit of marsh shown when I saw a bigger one with some rock next to it I thought it as was the one I wanted. Had dropped down too low at this stage and no way I was climbing back over the hill. I used the full map to figure out how to get back on the corridor.

Rest of the corridor down the hill was fine, very slippy in places. Nice way to finish off a long training run.

Muckross Loop

Felt a bit sluggish starting off and got worse around Killegy House. Couldn't decide why but then reckoned a small lunch was resulting in a lack of energy. Made it up the hill and after that I felt comfortable for the rest of the run. Tracks were a bit wet.

Knee was alright today. Small bit of soreness but generally ok. Will be running next 2 days so that'll be a good tester.

This morning was very nice but turned into a damp evening. Not raining heavy, just drizzle, which makes running in the dark a small bit trickier as you see the water droplets in the torch beam.

Forest is very empty in the dark, not even a deer tonight.

slept:6.5 (rest day)

Another bad nights sleep.

Heading to Cork after work so doubt i'll get any training done today. At least i've the head torch battery charged for tomorrow evening. Might consider some turbo trainer later depending on how lazy I feel and what time I get back from Cork at.

ahr:130 max:145 slept:7.0

Avg Cadence = 92rpm

Target for the rest of the winter is for turbo trainer to be above 90rpm and after Christmas bring it up to over 100rpm if I can.

Watched some of a Bond film as my GOT plan didn't work. They won't play on the DVD player due to the wrong file format, I blame my supplier!

Not sleeping great these days, keep on waking around 6.30 for some reason.

Lough Guitane Loop

Headed off up the road to Mangerton to get into the forest. As I neared the forest entrance I felt the beam on my torch was weakening, 3rd run with the torch so probably not enough juice left. Went past the barrier and decided after about 50m that the beam was strong enough as the ground was wet. So turned around and came back onto the road and headed down the way I came. Switched from the 20w to the 10w bulb, enough light from that on the road. So when I hit the junction I turned right and started on the loop.

A bit of climb here and there. Knee was ok running but some tightness at times and in the left quad. After dinner my knee had locked up pretty badly but icing has helped. Will be getting physio next week anyways. Not planning on running until Friday too. Evening wasn't great, damp and grey. Heavy rain when I got home but it had dried up before I started running. Part of the run there was some rain but not that heavy. So it was alright running and mild enough too. Plenty of puddles aswell.

Wasn't too impressed with the road, nice loop, but only over 10km due to my out and back at the start. Although if I was to do it again it could be added to by going into the Park.

I had planned on finishing my run up the road from Molly Darcys so had reflective stuff on. Plenty of cars on the road, so needed the lights.

Knee is sore today! Definitely think it's time to get it looked at so will contact physio to see if she can work around my core hours. Legs are also a small bit tired. Think I did suffer from tiredness yesterday while orienteering, if I had been fresher the road sections I could have ran faster, and I would have been able to attack the more physical areas better. But at the end of the day I was only able to do what my body let me, and I forced it to give what it could. Overall i'm pleased with yesterday, planned ahead a bit when I could and generally had good control flow.

Monday - turbo trainer (easy)
Tuesday - running (long, 90mins I think)
Wednesday - turbo trainer
Thursday - ??? might have to go to Cork this evening, otherwise i'll do something, maybe run and then turbo trainer tomorrow
Friday - running (usual loop)
Saturday - Gougane Barra horseshoe with Danny
Sunday - Orienteering, Muckross

Recovery spin after the weekend. As planned I read a book while listening to the radio, did that for 35mins and then watched a few mins of the Simspons before calling it a day.

Knee didn't feel good in work.
