Muckross-Ladies View-Muckross
Avg Cadence = 79rpm

Legs felt tired, run yesterday could be felt. But pushed the legs when I could, no point in giving the legs a break. Nice day out, short sleeves.

Looking at the splits I came down faster than I went up by 5mins, but there's only 100m difference in the climb! So despite the steep descent, there is still plenty of climb on the way down including back up to the house to cause trouble.

Passed a few bikes going uphill, very slow. Then met a load of bikes coming against me, wearing red jerseys, some sort of charity cycle. Saw one of them at the Ladies View shop not cycling, looked like he'd taken a tumble.

Nagles/Killavullen

Good (not) stag last night but didn't get home until 3am!!! Been a while since i've been out that late. Why they were telling stories about me I don't know, wasn't my stag.

Anyways met up with robrunner and we headed for the Nagles. Changed plan from yesterday to get decent warm-up of 8km in before tackling the route up to the mast. So there was some road at the start and end of this loop with a big hill in the middle. HR not great, too high but breathing wasn't stressed. HR was something I wasn't happy with at all over the run, seemed too high.

Nice day for running, a slight breeze at times and a nice bit of sun. We'd a quick water break at the car when we got back there, robrunner needed his inhaler, pollen. The started up to the mast, an IMRA hill race a long time ago. Was 21.15 from the car up to the mast, 2.54km and 282m climb. Didn't kill ourselves on the climb. Then another short break at the top, stretched my right calf again, stretched it also at the car before we started climbing. Not feeling the best but not too bad, small feeling in it.

Then took route back around the hill to the car, legs started to feel tired at this stage. Didn't realise we covered 18+km, so that's 2 Saturdays in a row with that sort of distance, but today didn't hurt nearly as much as Glen Feardar. A few hours later my calf is feeling ok, stretched a small bit, but not uncomfortable when walking so taking that as a good sign. Not sure what i'll do tomorrow yet, have left tape on my ankles so might end up running again.

(rest day)

Back to Cork after work for a night out in Kinsale. So no training to be done today, my calf gets more rest anyways.
Plan is to do some running tomorrow, venue still not decided. Will talk to the lads tonight about it and maybe make a plan then.

Right calf is tight, i'm not sure what's causing the problem and neither is my physio. I do think some compensation for my left ankle when it's hurting is a factor. So heat/ice treatment for next while.

Don't think i'll be bothered to train today unless I feel like turbo trainer later. Deluge outdoors so will be staying inside. Training for next week isn't going to be great, too much other stuff on. But probably will be good to get some sort of a break, then concentrate on training for the rest of June.

Back to reality this morning, work! What's the first thing to do at work, find the person who deals with "Bike to Work Scheme", ordered a new bike last Friday so need to get an application for that scheme. Will have bike in a couple of weeks.

Legs feeling alright today, the rest on Monday definitely helped them. Right calf was pretty sore last night but not feeling as bad this morning. Got physio tomorrow anyways.

Wednesday - 30mins recovery on the turbo trainer
Thursday - Cycling
Friday - Rest

Very short recovery spin. Nearly didn't happen as went into town to get my wheel back from the bike shop and the street was closed off, fire brigades and a tanker so not sure what exactly happened. But went back after work and got the wheel.

Planned on going for longer but plummetting blood sugar level forced me to stop, not sure why it dropped.

Will update the weekends log tomorrow night. Don't think i'm going to cycle now, forecast is appalling so not bringing bike to work, maybe i'll do something when I get home, bike only as can't imagine legs feeling good enough to run after the physio, my calf will need recovery time.

Small bit of a warm-up and stretching along the path by the river. Legs felt ok, so happy with that, but not convinced about my calf.

Inchmarnoch
Middle Distance WOC Selection Race

Started off using the ride, had a look at which directions Magic and Nic went, then decided Magics route looked easier. Went up the ride then cut in by the depression but control was behind me, strange start. Used the open going to 2, then cut down. Uphill to 3 was a pain, and ended up a small bit right of the control. Then came the 1st visit to 144, common control for a butterfly, to get distance from the area.

On the ride going to 5 I spotted Nic punching 8 so stored that location for later. This little loop didn't cause much trouble, but another steep hill up to 6. Lost a few seconds going to 8, think I was a bit hesitant early on. Using the ride back out of 8 towards 9 I met Roar and C.Hill. Also leaving 8 I spotted someone in a CorkO top that looked a lot like Magic:-)

Caught Magic at 10. Then went out for another 2 control which wre straightforward, before back to 144 for the last time. Messed up 14 a small bit, hill was smaller than I expected. Then to 15 took a bad route before missing the control in the circle, so definitel 45 seconds dropped here. 16 and 17 were ok, went ahead of Magic here. More seconds lost at 18, passed the ruin and then saw 18 in an open area, but my description said depression, missed that the shallow depression was in yellow, smart. 19 was ok and then had to get to a fence crossing before entering a much more runnable area. All the early controls had been in tough forest, physical stuff. Line to 20 wasn't the best but I wanted to be safe when I probably didn't need to be. Magic got ahead again here but I got passed him going to 22 before getting out onto the track and putting the hammer down, dropping Magic.

Overall I did lose some time but generally pleased with this race. 2 mins down on Nic so could have been closer. Pleased to have beaten Magic in a Middle distance, this time in a forest.

Ankle somehow held up for the race and so did my calf.

Short jog with C.Hill and Roar. Calf wasn't feeling the best doing this or later on, so booked physio for Thursday.

Decided that running the Sprint race would not be a good idea with my tight calf, if I wanted a chance of running well tomorrow then I need to skip the Sprint. Very glad I did based on the length of the race, it was a very long sprint, calf wouldn't have liked that.

So spectated at the finish watching people on the elite courses running straight from the 2nd last control to the finish! Was hoping that this didn't happen any of the Irish runners, only 1 nearly succeeded in doing this but she was blocked from punching the finish. The other excitement was watching the start, some serious hesitating and mistakes.
