Run from car up to the start of the orienteering. Said it was 2km on a sign up at registration, and it was bang on. Didn't run all the way, walked a bit with my dad and Rob O'S, also needed a quick pit stop.

(Munster League)

Distance is the course lenght and climb is from Garmin, no climb on the descriptions. Garmin distance was 9.16km.

Bad start by stopping short for 1. Then the next loop of 2-4 were fine. Then a long uphill leg to 5 which I ended up too high for so spent a minute or 2 faffing around. Then back downhill to 6. My line to 7 wasn't great, too low but knew where I was. Then a lovely downhill leg to 8, sweet running. Then into a nice cluster of controls in the technical area down low (near finish for Shamrock Day 3 last year). Got them all alright. There was a bit of a pull up to 14 before another climb onto a hill down to 15. From the top of the hill I saw a control and reckoned it was mine, turns out it wasn't when I got there, was on a marsh a bit before and below where I wanted to be, so not very smart.

Then a tough uphill to 16, hit it spot on but not before I ended up in a marsh in front of my dad as he was leaving, he didn't see the incident as he was planning his route. 17 was also a very tough leg, straight uphill. Again more climb to 18, could've contoured but decided it was easier to go up and then down the re-entrant. 19 was ok and 20 was downhill and so was 21. Bit of climb out of 21 to get down to the finish, not what I wanted to be doing at this stage.

So overall I wasn't pushing 100% and wasn't happy with mistakes at 1 & 5. Probably should've done sub 60, hard to tell from splits how much I did lose, just going on feeling.

Collected some of the Orange controls with The Flan, and then jogged down the road to download, and then from there back to the car on my own. Legs felt a bit tired on the hills.

Uphill, happy enough with how it went, wasn't too confident at the start and near the end. Tough though since it was mainly uphill.

Seefin (Sheep's Head)
So 2 different Seefin maps in a couple of months!

Danny had set a relay training course. So mass start with 4 of us in it, myself, John Scannell, Robrunner and The Flan. Long leg to number 1, think i'd it on Day 1 of last years Shamrock, so went over the top than around and found the control so much easier. Was very very windy on top though. Managed to lean over a crag into the wind it was so strong.

Was a bit lucky at 2, hit the area but was unsure. 3 was a slog uphill, before a nice contouring leg to 4 before downhill to 5.

Made a serious balls of 6. Looking back at it I really lost the plot. Didn't concentrate and use the obvious things like Control 2 to lead me into the control. Followed the marsh along otu fo 5 before climbing up to the next ridge, then I decided climb 3 more ridges, so ended up having to come back a bit, good chunk of time lost. Then 7, 8 and the finish were uphill.

When I finished I realised the map was 1:7500, so that information might have copped me on a bit more at 6.

Garmin distance was 4.85km so not too much extra distance added on.

Danny had originally planned we run the other relay course, if we'd done that then making dinner on time would not have happened, on top of people getting hypothermia waiting on top of the hill.

So went and collected some controls before jogging down the hill on the road which wasn't fun in o shoes. Saw the lads on the road just before I hit it, so was sort of chasing them. Eventually caught them!

slept:7.75 (rest day)

Funnily enough I woke at 6.30 but no way was I moving out of bed, was way too comfortable. Tomorrow will make up for missing today anyways. Going to be a long day training (morning should be easy), and then there's 7.8km on Sunday with 1-1.5km each way to the start/finish. Going to bring runners to run that rather than doing it in my o-shoes. Should be a good weekend on decent terrain.

Note

I spotted an insole on the couch when I got in from work, so was walking around with only the right one in for the day.

I wonder did anyone notice that I was a bit lopsided all day???

Muckross
Went up the road towards Mangerton before heading down and around the high track before going around the top of the waterfall, then home.

Met 3 different runners (joggers) this evening, I was moving a lot faster than them! 2 of them had dogs with them.

What made this run even nicer was that when I was sitting on the couch having a drink when I got back, there was a heavy shower:-) Always good to miss the rain.

Left quad still tight, need to stretch it more, rest of the legs alright apart from right foot, has been sore at times recently, not sure what's up but not worried.

Will be resting tomorrow, going to Gift Grub 2 in the INEC and getting dinner beforehand. Haf thinking of getting up early to go on the turbo trainer, we'll see.

Pleased with how I was feeling this evening. Although quads have gotten tired and right calf started to niggle a small bit around half way through the 2nd lap. Stretching hasn't been too good in last few days so need to increase the time i'm spending. Nice evening for running but was windy on the exposed area up high.

Lap times are pacy enough, when I saw the lap for the 1st lap I wanted the 2nd to be consistant so pushed on when I could. Avg HR was higher by 11bpm on the 2nd lap, no surprise there.

Want to run tomorrow, but not too keen on hills, want to give the quads a rest, Mangerton or Torc are calling to me though! Definitely end of next week if I don't make it up there next week.

Turbo Trainer 44:30 [2]
ahr:114 max:131 slept:7.5

Finished off a book for around 25minutes and then watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory.

Plan was to go running, but my mind changed very easily when I left work into a downpour. Would not have been nice out running this evening, if it was a shower I would have run, but it was heavy wind and rain, so would have been very unpleasant. That's why I need someone to train with, motivation to get out, I did text Gerry last night about running today but he was thinking of cycling, must be injured.

So will run tomorrow instead of today, just switch days, easy.

Need to order some energy gels so will do that tonight, and also see about replacing the magnet for my Garmin Bike Sensor.

Note
slept:8.0

Weather forecast is pretty crap for the next few days so not looking forward to being out in that, not a positive start to the week!

Monday - Running (Muckross)
Tuesday - Running (will try to meet up with Castleisland lads)
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Running (will leave starting Chain Gang training until maybe next week)
Friday - not sure whether to rest or do something on the turbo trainer, mightn't have much time
Saturday - O training (Sheeps Head)
Sunday - O race (Sheeps Head)

Body feels ok, so we'll see what happens running this evening, i'm presuming it'll work. Best tape my ankle though!

Torc Waterfall

Set off at a nice pace, legs felt alright on the road. Nearly got away with no jacket but rain was falling when I was putting on my runners, so put one on and a hat. Dispensed with the hat where I met the track up to Killegy House. Rain had stopped. Saw a woman and 2 dogs running around here, but she turned down the hill towards the lower track/road.

Went to the Upper Torc car-park and then descended the steps by the waterfall. Met a girl walking up and looked like she might have been going running. That suspicion was proved correct, met her running down the track on the other side of the waterfall, on the flatter section. That's a bit of a cheat, walking uphill before running down, that's never going to get you fit.

Met 2 more lads running between the waterfall turn-off and the bridge. Recognised one of the lads but don't know his name, think i've seen him at a race or 2. Then back towards the Upper Torc car-park before turning off for the higher loop. Didn't do the high loop, kept on going and then turned off to the left onto a path used by MTBers. Followed this over the hill before turning right off it onto a smaller trail. This section of forest is really open, looked great and was good to run in. Then arrived back onto the track which leads to the car-park, and turned for home.

Legs felt grand running, was slightly concerned that they might be still hungover from Scotland but the rest over the weekend worked.
