Kate Kearney's-Gap of Dunloe-Purple Mountain-Tomies Mountain-Kate Kearney's

Cloudy this morning and a small bit damp at times but walking up the gap it was grand. Not the best turn out this morning for the CorkO walk. Only Bobby, Jim and myself. What happened to the rest, just lazy I guess;-)

Up onto the mountain then from the top of the gap. Past the lake and then it got a bit steeper. The higher we went the windier it got, particularly cold near and on the top of Purple. Heading down off Purple I decided it was gloves time.

Weather didn't improve as we dropped height so a compass bearing was taken to get the right direction off Tomies. Ended up drifting too far east, so righted ourselves when we came upon some cliffs. From here it was all downhill. This slight detour didn't add much.

Was tired towards the end. Bobby and Jim don't let up, only brief stoppages, and no food stop, had lemon bon-bons in my pocket so they worked out nicely.

Note

Set my alarm for 7, got up, looked out the front door and it was a bit damp. Made breakfast, ate it, and then put bike rack followed by bike on the car. Went in and switched on the laptop to check weather, no rainfall showing for Kerry, hmmm. Still had some time so put on tv and thought I heard proper rain. Had a look outside and it was raining. So at 8am I took bike off car and got back into bed for another couple of hours, Crohane it is today rather than cycling.

In hindsight it was a sensible decision considering the rain.

Crohane

Did a recce for Squad training in March. Started off by being stopped by a forest barrier so couldn't park where planned, so if I want to knock 0.6km off the walk to the start then need to find the forester to get a key. Then I reckon the parking would only be another 0.6km from the actual start.

Mountain was wet and then it started raining (heavy), got soaked.

Took a while to figure out where I was, started out lower than expected. Once I relocated things made sense, but wasn't using map much, just going from one big feature to the next. Checking runnability more than features.

Area I had planned using for warm-up is now on the far side of a deer fence and has been planted. So that's one thing that won't be happening now, will have to plan an alternative.

Saw 3 red deer stags on the mountain, running away from me.

Right quad was sore for a small bit, think I better do some stretching, and right hamstring also a bit tight.

slept:7.5 (rest day)

Taking it easy today, no point pushing after illness last week. Legs are still sore after Wednesday, particularly the quads!

Not sure what to do this weekend, well tomorrow, decided on Sunday:
Saturday - Check Crohane or Cycling in Tralee
Sunday - Hill walking

Avg Cadence = 81rpm

Body felt pretty stiff today after track last night. So this probably should have eased the muscles a bit.

Watched end of Series 2 of The Inbetweeners and the 1st episode of Series 3, which was good (fashion show).

Track 43:32 [5] 8.36 km (5:12 / km)
ahr:149 max:184 shoes: Mizuno Waverider 14

8 * 400m (with nice recovery, 3mins)
Rob was taking it easy ahead of Master XC next Sunday so i'd no problem with that after not running in a while and not on track for a few weeks. The 400s were longer than 400 as they were run in lane 3 but I didn't start the watch for about 5m after the line.

1 - 75
2 - 74
3 - 72
4 - 74
5 - 72
6 - 73
7 - 72
8 - 72

The long recovery helped a lot, thankful for it, but felt good running, some sore muscles in between laps but felt ok at pace. The track felt pretty slippy tonight, bit of frost or sand, something to cause a lack of friction anyway.

Funny how one of the lads running tonight knows clargey.

And to cool down, some water in the grass at the bottom of the lap looked a bit glassy, maybe freezing!

slept:7.5

Left Garmin charging at work so only have stopwatch, i.e. time.

Body felt ok, but today wasn't a good day, didn't feel 100% after lunch. Alright now though.

So running tomorrow...

Note: Forgot to mention what I did on the turbo tonight, watched last episode of Game of Thrones (Series 1). Would recomend the series, but I suspected something like the ending was going to happen for a while, still good though.

(Tentative) plan for the week

Monday - Turbo trainer (30mins), scratch that resting instead
Tuesday - Glanageenty (1 lap), maybe turbo trainer
Wednesday - intervals (maybe) or rest
Thursday - Turbo Trainer
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Run
Sunday - CorkO Hillwalk

Maybe this plan is being optimistic but will not be pushing this week. Would be happy just to be doing something.

Thinking diet might be something I need to look at/change completely.
