Rossbeigh

New map, nice, but did have trouble with the finer detail due to the printing. A properly printed map would've made life easier.

Got 1-4 ok but was struggling to get my head around the map, and that was shockingly obvious when I ballsed up 5 really badly. That is despite knowing where I was half-way through my mistake, lot of time lost. Eventually twigged what was going on. Mis-interpretation. So not a good start.

Thought 10 was left of where I thought it was going to be. Took the beach option to 14, not sure if it was quicker yet as not results up, first part on the beach was good running, into the wind though, slightly overshot the control but that wouldn't have cost me much, the trouble was the 4 or so 2.5m contours bunched closely together, sandy and steep.

Went to the wrong hill for 19, the one to the right, so lost maybe 1 minute there. Also went right at 20 so had to turn back down, couldn't really see anything to aim for on the ridge I was running to, then ended up a bit left of 21 coming off the beach.

22 WAS A HORRIBLE CONTROL. Easy navigation, that was fine, but i'd to run directly against the maram grass. It was a really painful leg, it hurt a lot.

Once 24 was got, it was a hard run for the last 6 controls, just a matter of putting the head down and running. Then 30 was on top of a hill, so a final dig then down to the finish.

Should have gone sub 50!

Tralee-Meadowlands-Killarney(via Ballyfinane)-Lap of Muckross Lake-Tralee
Avg Cadence = 65rpm

Nice easy pace to Killarney, kept it steady. Weather not the best but seemed to ease up in intensity of drizzle around Fieries, but got worse closer to Killarney.

Decided to do a lap of Muckross lake then, and before entering the National Park passed some athletics officials so I was wondering what was going on. Found out soon enough when a load of women jogging in knock-me-down coloured jackets were blocking the path. Got through them and asked what was on, there was a 10mile race on. So for the next 8 miles we passed runner after runner, with the standard improving after each mile. Some big gaps there too. Eventually caught the leader, going well, but not sure what sort of time he was going to get. I did recognise 2 of the lads who beat me last Sunday running, also doing well today.

Once passed them it was back into Killarney, still awfully wet. My cycling buddy for the day, Shea, decided he was going to stop for a hot chocolate. He also suggested I keep going since I'd get back faster being stronger on the bike. I agreed since I didn't want to stop and had enough provisions.

Had a couple of gels on the way back. Tried to pick up the pace but road is a bit up and down which made it diffucult. Nearing the bottom of the climb up from Ballyfinane I could feel my body getting tired, took 2nd gel here. Took it easy on the climb, body couldn't have done anything else anyway, feeling the affects of not much cycling recently. But made the top and then the nice descent back to Tralee. Again from Balloonagh back to the house, a normally quick bit of cycling I didn't have the legs to move the bike fast.

Happy to have gone cycling but could've done with some sun. It did improve, stopped raining, between Fieries and Ballyfinane on the way back, but was drenched when I got home.

I did train today but no time to download data so will write it up tomorrow. Woke up to rain, heavy annoying drizzle, internet said it would clear. So decided that in order to prevent a guilty conscience that if I went to the Meadowlands and no one turned up then I could come home again and watch rugby, only missing 20mins of it. Turned up there punctually and a minute later 1 more lad turned up, and despite waiting until 9.15 no one else showed, so the 2 of us went out for a spin in the rain. So just hope I wake up tomorrow without having come down with something, taking preventative measures (VitC) to be on the safe side.

Glanageenty (1 lap)

Ran with James from work. Body felt comfortable this evening. Although abductors started to make their presence felt late on. Stayed on my feet, getting slippier in places. Nice evening for a run. Few people out and about in the wood.

Heading to Cork again this evening, got a couple of things to do there, including meeting some friends for dinner. Lot of driving over last 2 days and more to come.

But on a positive note my legs feel a lot better today, soreness is completely gone from the offending muscles. Would like to train as a result but rest is sensible option.

Off to Cork at lunchtime for my annual check-up with my consultant. Transporting a drum kit back to Cork too today.

Legs are not tired, but are sore in a few muscles. Don't think running last night has done any damage though. Plenty of stretching again today while i'm at work and again tonight.

Glanageenty, 1 long lap

John Linehan timed the lap at just over 34, my time includes the jog down to the car which we parked uphill. There were 4 other lads including John out tonight, same again next week. Group a bit slower than me but still good to get out with them. Nice to talk to John, legend.

HR is still not co-operating, lack of training i'm blaming. Rest now for 2 days. Legs felt ok running, but sore otherwise, plenty of stretching has been don, is being done and will be done. Also using my new hot water bottle to get some heat into the sore areas.

Legs are sore in places this morning, in order of pain, calves, hamstrings, and then abductors. But not that bad. Will stretch plenty during work.

This evening going for an easy run with James along the canal, not sure how far we'll go, hope wind eases by then, exposed down there.

Tomorrow I may be training with a group, not sure of the details on that yet, to be confirmed, Glanageenty the venue. Need to sort out head torch by then.

Wednesday and Thursday are rest days, appointment in Cork Wednesday afternoon and meeting friends Thursday, also in Cork. Rest needed anyway by then I imagine.

Friday will be another run. And plan for Saturday if weather agrees is heading out on the club cycle spin.

Sunday there's an event in Rossbeigh, first event there in years, probably over a decade, on a new Lidar map, so will definitely head down to that.

I'm meeting John Linehan and another lad at 6pm tomorrow for a run in Glanageenty:-)

Blennerville

Out the canal 2.5km into the first field and then back to the car. Windy on the way out so nice tailwind coming back. Recovery run with James after the weekend, he did the Killarney Adventure Race on Saturday.

Legs felt ok running, not much soreness. Got a hot water bottle on them now (pm) to get some blood into the sore areas to see if that helps.
