Torc (same run as a couple of weeks ago)

Ran quicker today but started at the bottom of the hill rather than Torc waterfall as car-park there was full, so it meant no warm-up before the climb began.

Thought legs felt a bit tired on the first hill and on the flat area between it and the old kenmare road open section. Chest also felt a bit off, was puffing on the old kenmare road. Then ahead of me before the path off up Torc I noticed a ton of people on the path. Narrow and with a boardwalk at times it was going to be fun getting passed these large groups. Took the first group inside a corner plowing through marshy bit next to boardwalk and dove passed a few more when I got the chance. Because of the people I tried a bit harder so HR was up. Then another group had to be passed and after that i'd pretty much clear road to the top.

I've now determined where the hardest part of the climb is, there's a steep section, and I reckon i've it sussed for future runs, so that i'm prepared for it, rather than hit it and stop.

Got to the top and tried to stretch left quad but same as last time, the hamstring felt a bit crampish, so not sure what the issue there is.

On the descent I felt that I hammered it, tore down keeping the HR up. First group that I passed got lucky for, they'd pulled into a platform for viewing and also got lucky for the 2nd big group, they were at a lower platform. Got a big scream out of a woman there though as I flew passed:-) There were more stragglers beyond them but I got passed cleanly.

Back onto the old kenmare road and I relaxed a bit. After turning off it and into the new loop in the route the hill hurt more than last time, and left quad was a bit tight, but didn't cause trouble. Descended on the road through the open forest faster too.

Had the extra bit at the end, from the bottom of the waterfall back to the car which had a slight drag, which I felt. Happy with the run considering yesterday and not much sleep last night.

slept:7.5 (rest day)

Was at Slane today so all the exercise I got was the long walk to and from the bus drop-off point. Not too impressed with the amount of drunkeness that seemed to abound and a lot seemed to be smoking too. But Kings of Leon put on a great gig, well impressed with them.

Tonevane (out to 1st railed bridge, back and around the loop)

Body felt a bit tired this evening and some sore legs in places near the end, left achilles. Windy this evening, thought it had calmed today but I was proved wrong. Small bit of moisture in the air at times, but only for a couple of minutes.

Felt better on the run back than out, and on the hill up from the river on the loop, didn't feel too good when I started the loop, chest (remembered inhalers today) felt a bit caught.

Walking 40:00 [1] 3.6 km (11:07 / km)

And into work again this morning. Sounded pretty stormy outside when I was lying in bed so thoughts of a taxi entered my head, no point in getting drowned on my way in. I did throw waterproofs into my bag before I started walking though, but stayed dry for the walk. Think it was less windy than yesterday morning.

I hope it sorts itself out for cycling later. Also got physio this morning and I presume my car will be fixed.

Note

Got my car back in time to get to the physio.

She had a look at my hip issue and it's a tight groin, both of them are tight, right more so than the left. Session was fine apart from when she did the hip flexors, they were painful. She lowered the table so she could get more force into it! It hurt her fingers too, she said she could feel the burn. So body isn't in that bad a shape.

Tralee-Castleisland (top of climbing lane)-Farranfore-Tralee

Bit of a mess up with speed sensor on bike so had to check distance on Google. First part of cycle was where the data was lost, but fixed it at top of the hill.

Some wind out tonight but we were a mixed group (including a tandem) heading out to Castleisland so didn't really make use of it. Turned onto the dual carriageway and headed up the hill, pace picked up there with myself, John, Sean and Chris leaving the rest behind. Chris dropped off at the roundabout so it was myself and the 2 lads to the top of the hill, didn't feel as bad as I thought it would.

Considering I remembered around Castleisland that I forgot to take my inhalers before riding I did alright, chest felt fine, more or less.

Back down the hill into Castleisland on the old road i'd a few issues with the wind, was heading for the ditch at one point and wobbled, so eased up. Hit 60kph at one point. Caught up again by the GAA club. To Farranfore we cycled hard enough, HR was over 160 for a good bit of it. Stopped for a few minutes as the group had waited at Farranfore. So off we went as a group back to Tralee.

Handy pace to start off with but things increased on the climbing lane, with me probably causing trouble! Bunched up again as we eased off at the top but then after a while the pace picked up again. Wind got strong too and was particularly bad around Ballygarry.

Pleased with the cycle this evening, riding with a bunch makes the weather not seem quite as bad, although that's all everyone was talking about, the wind.

Avg Cadence = 76rpm. It picked up on the climbs but we weren't going too fast as a big group.

Walking 40:00 [1] 3.6 km (11:07 / km)
slept:7.25 (rest day)

Walk into work. A bit more difficult than the walk home yesterday. Very breezy this morning. Also had a bit more weight on my shoulders, running gear in my bag. So I suppose that means I'm running tonight, Tonevane I'd say, been a while since i've run there.

Walking 40:00 [1] 3.6 km (11:07 / km)

Walk home from work. Car not fixed so not pleased. Was going to go on the bike for a bit but just couldn't be bothered. Got wet too walking so not a good afternoon.

slept:6.5

Right hip is still sore this morning, was also sore yesterday, annoying when driving. So it's not my hip flexors as they weren't screaming too badly when I stretched them last night, time to google myself up some new stretches.

Havn't decided on whether to train today or not, but didn't have the new tyre for the bike last night, only got it from the Post Office this morning, so that'll be put on this evening. Might go for a short spin then maybe, 30mins.

Will run tomorrow, go out with the Chain Gang then on Thursday (sent them my membership forms yesterday, a new club to join), and then run or cycle on Friday, I think cycle. Saturday will be at Slane and then on Sunday I'll have gear in the car for a run so might try the run I did up Torc again.
1 PM

Note

Went stretching my hip a small bit and then started prodding it to find it hurt a lot more than doing similar to my left leg. So got physio on Thursday but may try running tomorrow anyway and cycling this evening. Or else just rest, might need it.

Was looking at my shoe report there and was confused why i'd done so many km's in my icebugs, didn't add up. So went through the last few months to discover it took me 3 minutes to do a 450km warm-up, changing that 0.45km made things add up a bit better.
5 PM

Walking 40:00 [1] 3.6 km (11:07 / km)
(rest day)

Walked home from work, car in garage, it's a bit on the sick side again! So will be walking again tomorrow back to work but car should be ready i'd say to get home tomorrow. Crap, will have to carry my running gear with me or else maybe just get on the turbo trainer when I get home. Got the night to decide on that.

Also had to give a lad a push start in Boherbue. So that increased the intensity of the walk for a few seconds!
10 PM

Note

Got the rear tyre changed and put a new tube in too. Also changed the front bottle cage and replaced it with a Team Sky one. Put the new cleats on my cycling shoes too, well worn at this stage so old ones are getting acquainted with the bin. So all set for club training on Thursday.

Not too pleased with my weekend of racing in the Lake District. Made too many mistakes and energy issues at times on Saturday followed by energy/effort issues again yesterday. Need to sort out a few things I reckon, hmmm.
