At anfield for a match against spurs so therefore no training today, good excuse for not doing anything today. Will make up for it tomorrow with a run upTorc.

Avg Cadence = 80rpm

Not the best of sessions on the trainer, chest felt a bit out of breath at times, and I was only on the bike, so that stopped me once or twice. Managed to get the hour done though, would have liked to have done more but just not in the mood for it.

Finished Transformers 2 and started watching the expendables. Hoping the action would give me a boost!

Got O gear packed in the car for training after work, heading to Tír na Spideoige for a run. Going to run the course from the event held there earlier this year. Really looking forward to running tonight, just hope the recent rain hasn't slowed the area down after the burning earlier in the year.

Ordered a new tyre for the bike too. After 3 punctures in last 2 spins I can't trust the old tyre. So will restrict myself to indoor cycling tomorrow whatever the weather is. And on Monday I reckon i'll run up Torc Mountain.

Tír na Spidóige
Blue course from event there in March which I missed due to Portugal trip.

I'm not the biggest fan of orienteering when there are no controls or something to mark the control location. I end up spending too much time checking that i'm in the right spot.

Took the road route to 1 and then faffed about a bit getting up the hill to the control, trying to figure out how many hills i'd climbed! Was too far north of 2. On the way to 3 I got distracted by finding a map (in perfect condition) from the event in march on the ground. I tucked it into my trousers and when I got back to the car I found it was a yellow course map in perfect condition, map bag had done it's job.

Again at 3 I wasn't too sure which re-entrant the control would have been in, in a race i'd have been spot on. Again unsure when I hit 4 regarding which crag was right, probably more crags there than mapped anyway. Stopped a bit short for 5 and 6 was ok, sort of stumbled across it. Leaving 6 I fell flat on my face into a bog, wet!!!

7 again was another one where I was unsure of control position but was in the circle ok. 8 was fine and as was 9. Long leg to 10 then across the big marsh but just had to aim for the far side of the big hill, so easy. 11 was fine and again I was hesitant at 12, but found a small cane between two hills so I was right. 13 was fine too and so was 14. Bit unsure of 14 since there was a big gap between the two hills that the control was supposed to have been between.

I didn't do 15 very well, stupidly in face. I didn't have a plan for the leg, just to aim for the trees/fields which were beyond the control and work off them. Lots of hills had to be crossed to get that far so lost track of where I was. Then I went through a gap between two hills and reckoned the re-entrant I was looking for was to my right. Kept on going then to check the features beyond it as there was a marsh and crag that I thought would help. I should have gone further but convinced myself I was right. Then I crossed the next hill to find I was further from the hill I was relocating off than I thought, so I reckon I was short of 15 when I thought i'd got it. Not very smart.

The last 3 controls were fine.

Happy with how I felt running tonight. Bit of a twinge in my left hamstring but nothing to worry about, will stretch it out tonight. Was only around 70mins driving from Tralee. Next plan will be to run the course I set on Crohane Lake, in June I reckon.

Garmin said I ran 8.1km so I added an extra km in there. Didn't go straight line for some controls so that explains some of the extra distance.

Tralee-Castlemaine-Farranfore-Castleisland Bypass-Tralee
Avg Cadence - 75rpm

Out with the Chain Gang again, same route as last week. Bit more restrained on the ascent and descent of the hill to Castlemaine, group was kept together, no one dropped, but felt good anyways. Wouldn't have minded going faster on the way down the hill.

Then the SHIT HIT THE FAN. 3 lads went off the front after we turned onto the Fieries road out of Castlemaine, I was a few cyclists back, and took a second to realise what these clowns were at. Decided, what the hell, lets go. So dropped the gears and tore off after then where they had got around 100m of a headstart. Slowly started to reel them in and finally caught up with them after a few times thinking would I make it over the gap. It was a tough push. So after this it was pedal to the metal all the way to Farranfore. Averaging i'd say around 1.30 min/km. Tough going. On the way into Fieries I asked how far this lunacy was going to last, and the response was to "Farranfore anyways". So that had me thinking that they might go further, aahh. We stopped in Farranfore thankfully as one of the lads wanted to check his gears. Our speed session lasted for about 10/11km of rolling roads.

Just out the road from Farranfore I had a puncture, felt something taking the turn onto the Castleisland road but didn't last much longer. Shouted for a pump since I only ordered a replacement last night. One of the lads came back to me as I changed the tube. Lost some time but stopped the watch. 3 other lads stopped so we started moving again but at a handy pace. Caught the other lads before Castleisland and then onto the road back to Tralee. Thought there was going to be a headwind but wasn't as bad as expected.

Nice cruise into Tralee then but it kicked off again by Ballygarry House Hotel for a sprint, again I got caught on the hop, need to work on that for future spins. Pushed hard to catch up but didn't push on since I didn't know where I was sprinting to. Checked afterwards so next time i'll be out to do some damage if there's a sprint:-)

These kind of spins are fun, you'd get over the pain of the hard stuff, they are even kinda fun, you and your chariot against the other chariots and their riders.

Stupid dog barking next door woke me up at 7 this morning, that and I needed food!

Finally come up with a training plan for the next week or so.
Today - run in Glanageenty, at least 2 laps
Tomorrow - cycling with the Chain Gang
Friday - run (maybe TnaS)
Saturday - cycle in the morning, flight to Liverpool is at 8
Sunday - rest (but will be cheering on the Pool)
Monday - run in Killarney in the afternoon/evening
Tuesday - cycle
Wednesday - cycle
Thursday - rest as i'll be travelling back to Cork
Friday - light training session in the Lake District, Magic suggested this a while back
Saturday - Middle Distance Race, Lake District
Sunday - Classic Distance Race, Lake District
Monday - rest

I'm also going to decide on the dates for my Autumn training break in the next few days too, 2 weeks off sometime in November.

Glanageenty (2 laps)
1 - 33.10
2 - 33.34

Body not feeling the best this evening. Some niggles in the left quad and right achilles at the start. So stopped between laps for a quick stretch of calves and quads. Also was struggling for breath at times. So all in all it wasn't the most enjoyable of evenings at times, other times I felt fine.

Head was thinking whether the training i'll do this week will benefit me or whether I need rest. Not going to stop me cycling tomorrow though! Will decide after that about a couple of days off if necessary despite coming up with a 2 week plan this morning, all that effort possibly going to waste.

Going to cycle this evening but going outdoors might not be the best idea after last Saturday's puncture issue as i've no pump. The small one for the bike is broken. By going on the turbo trainer it would alleviate this issue, unless I go buy one on the way home?

Had a bit of an incident with the Garmin, knocked it off the ironing board and when I picked it up the screen was blank but when you pressed the buttons there was a beep. Brought it upstairs and plugged it in for a second which brought the screen back to life. Time had stopped too so started it again when I got on the bike.

Watched more of Transformers 2 but still more to go.

slept:7.0 (rest day)

Taking it easy today after the weekend. A few rest days have been creeping into the schedule recently but I suppose they are needed. Still not sure of a plan for this week apart from maybe cycling on Thursday. Wouldn't mind getting out to Tír na Spideoige to run on some lightning fast terrain.
