Tralee-Ballymac (O'Riadas)-Tralee

After seeing a nice morning yesterday I decided that i'd go outdoors today, especially seeing as it looked nice when I got up. Got the bike ready, a few bits and pieces to sort, and then on went the layers, etc.

At the start it felt a bit of a struggle but after a while it started to feel better. Over my shoulder on the way out I could see the clouds darken over the Mish mountains. Decided to turn at O'Riadas and then I picked up the pace, think i'd a slight headwind on the way out so a tailwind may have helped. After a while it started to drizzle a bit and then it got heavier. I also felt like I got back to Ballyseedy faster than I went out. As I got closer to Tralee it got heavier, not the most pleasant of conditions, but I felt ok, headwind at this stage too which made like a bit more difficult with rain in my eyes.

Anyway got back to the house drenched, even with overshoes my socks were damp, but at least my feet stayed warm. Good to get out on the bike in February, and makes a change from Turbo trainer. I also calibrated my speed/cadence sensor since i'd the GPS on too. So that should give me more accurate data for the turbo trainer next time i use it.

Turbo Trainer 57:43 [3]
ahr:130 max:150 slept:9.0

Avg Cadence = 83rpm

Was tempted to actually take the bike off the stand but by the time I got home to go training it was starting to cloud over and I've a few bits to sort before I go out on the road, although went messing with the saddle this evening so that's the main thing sorted.

Watched the end of Hot Fuzz, class film, really looking forward to seeing Paul when I get back from Go-burg.

Just tipped away but was getting bored after 50mins but then I started cycling harder for the last few mins, not sure why, stave off boredom maybe. For some reason avg HR was higher this evening than last but same cadence, strange?

On the bike this evening since running can't really happen until I get more physio on Monday. Started watching Hot Fuzz. Hour actually passed quite quickly.

Blennerville (The Spa)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
As you might be able to tell I may be a bit on the pissed off side after this run. Thought I was taking it easy, well HR was 163 to start off with but I think the strap may have been malfunctioning as it got back to normal after a while. Out to the Spa was fine then turned back. Got back onto Cockleshell Road, things still going alright, then my right calf started to hurt, and not a nice hurt. So walked for a bit until I found a fence post to stretch against.

Did some stretching, a few different types, tried some massage, and then started running again. Felt alright again but slowed things down a bit and managed to get to the car.

Note

I've spend the evening with ice and heat on my stupid calf. I assume it had a spasm. Even used a wine bottle for a bit.

This isn't the first time i've got a spasm the day after a physio session.

I'm hoping it's not too bad. Plan for tomorrow is turbo trainer but running again on Saturday and probably Sunday too. This better go away as i'm off to Gothenburg training next week.

slept:8.0 (rest day)

Had a trip to my physio before lunch to get the legs looked at, calves not in the best of shape but quads aren't as bad as I thought they were. Of course I got my usual stretching lecture, but I have been doing more of it, so thinking that if I log the amount of time I spend stretching in AP it might encourage me to do more.

Had lunch with Mary today in the Ballygarry House Hotel. Decided that dessert was needed so ordered the apple tart with custard that was on the menu. Not only did the tart come with a decent helping of custard, it also came with a scoop of ice-cream and cream. All the bases covered there.

Turbo Trainer 1:00:04 [3]
ahr:135 max:167

Avg Cadence = 86rpm

Legs felt tired today, left hamstring felt tight mainly, and I didn't stretch much during the day either. Spent an hour watching the end of Role Models, and had enough time to watch some of the deleted scenes too.

After 20mins I did 10mins harder, then eased off for 10, harder for 10, and another easy 10mins to finish off.

Note
slept:8.5

Despite getting to bed early I didn't sleep well at all, woke up a few times, including half an hour between 5.30-6.00, so not impressed with that.

Legs feel ok today, small bit tired, with pain in my left calf and right knee. Tried stretching my calf but not getting anything in the various stretches i've tried so as usual the trouble must be in deep. Sort of looking forward to physio on Wednesday now as that should help matters.

I just have to survive circuits this evening first...
5 PM

Turbo Trainer 22:01 [2]
ahr:107 max:115

Avg Cadence = 82rpm

As planned I got on the bike to try and loosen out the legs after yesterday before circuits. They didn't feel too good to start out with, left hamstring felt tight and left calf was sore. But once I got warmed up they felt a bit better.

Did some stretching afterwards before I got in the car to head to circuits.
6 PM

Turbo Trainer warm up/down 22:31 [2]
ahr:114 max:125

On the bike before circuits. Trainer left us on there for a long time as he was showing 2 girls the various stations. Bike says I covered 7 miles in the time I was pedalling. Legs felt better on this bike than at home, mainly I reckon as they were warmed up. Did some stretching afterwards before starting proper exercise!
7 PM

Circuits 50:50 [3]
ahr:117 max:160 shoes: Mizuno Waverider 13

There were 10 stations, I think! And we did 3 sets and around 15 or so reps at each station. A couple of new ones today, calf raises and the plank. Felt better today doing the various reps and I think the body isn't is in as much pain as it was after last week.

Pleased to have got through tonight after yesterdays race. Did struggle on the last bench press set though, something on my right side wasn't feeling right so was unbalanced and gave it up. Everything else was fine apart from calf raises, some discomfort doing them at times.
