Whitechurch Community Centre

Drove down and parked outside of the school. Then I went into the community centre and did laps of the 3 pitches, not sure how many, lost count and don't have my ANT stick to download home with me. I don't like doing laps of pitches.

Stopped for a quick stretch of the calves after a few minutes. HR seems a bit high for what i'm doing but that's the story of my life recently.

At least there is orienteering tomorrow...

Whitechurch

Ran from home down to the community centre and then did a few laps of the 2 gaa pitches and the rugby pitch. Only tracks on the pitches in the snow were from foxes.

Felt a bit tired on my 2nd lap but felt better the more I ran which felt good. I also increased my HR on the return leg home.

Note

Got a turbo trainer off my brother for christmas/birthday so that'll get some use in January, so training hours should increase. I also got a cadence sensor that links in with the garmin so that should help me train harder:-)

Now I must find an athletics club to do intervals with.

Note
(rest day)

Another planned break. Had to call into Killarney on my way back to Cork from Tralee so an opportunity to train today was always going to be difficult. Really enjoyed the scenery on the drive home, whole countryside was covered in snow, never experienced it before, so class.

Note
(rest day)

Break up day today at work so training not part of the plan. Needed a rest too, 5 days running in a row is quite a lot for me. Had a custard slice for lunch and 2 mince pies so it was a good day for cake eating.

Blenerville (The Spa + The Basin) same again!

Wimped out this evening and changed into my running gear in the car, couldn't face doing it outdoors again after last night. Takes a bit longer but wasn't as cold. Calf was a bit on the sore side today, left, but just letting me know it's there.

Set off at a nice pace and at the same fence post on the track I stretched again, my footprints from last 2 nights are still there. Didn't use my head torch for a while this evening. Came out of the fog at the end of Cockleshell Road and it was only in the fields that I switched it on. Face felt very cold at this point but body was ok. On the way back from The Spa I got very confused nearing the end of the fields, got very foggy and was hard to figure out where I was. Pretty much thick fog all the way back to Blennerville but eased off a bit for the run in and out to the Basin.

When I finished I discovered that i'd white mascara on my eyelashes, sweat or condensation from the fog had frozen at the tips of my eyelashes, looked cool.

So no more running until after Santa comes:-)

Blennerville (The Spa + The Basin)

Very very cold this evening, think each night is getting progressively colder. Weather information for Tralee on AP says it's -8 at the moment (1944) so it must definitely have been sub zero when running. Had 4 layers under my running jacket, water proof socks, 3/4 tights under my tracksuit bottoms, 2 pairs of gloves, with a buff and hat under my head torch. So lot of weight carried this evening!

Stopped for a quick stretch on the path. Then off again. Went out to the Spa, think it was a bit softer underfoot this evening due to the snow this morning and afternoon. On the way back I met a tractor at the end of Cockleshell Road so I passed him out! Probably increased the pace to do this but calmed down again on the path back to the end of the canal. Snow on top of the frozen canal this evening, I wonder are there people stupid enough in Tralee to walk on it? I suppose i'll read about it in the Kerry's Eye if it does happen!

Note

Plan on running again tomorrow and then taking 2 days rest same as last week. Think it's an ok plan as i'll probably be running every day for a while come Saturday, and want to try hard on Saturday if conditions are suitable. Based on what i'll be doing on Thursday (break-up day) and Friday (Christmas Eve) training on these days would prove difficult anyway.

Blennerville (The Spa + The Basin)

Very very cold tonight. I'm also not liking the snow anymore as it's after getting compacted which makes it as hard as concrete, my nightmare running surface. So not sure what to do about running now, maybe Gleanageanty in the woods?

Started off slowly and when I got to the track I stopped to do some stretching. Then back off again. Was thinking of turning at the fields but kept on going, just after leaving the fields on the way to The Spa I realised i'd lost a glove (was wearing 2 on each hand). So had to think about where I lost it and realised it must have been where I did the stretching.

When I reached the track again on the way back my pace dropped as I slowed to scan the path for my missing glove. Stopped twice at the wrong point but my glove was where I did stop, so that was good.

Then kept on going into the Basin. After turning I picked up the pace for around 3 or 4 mins, and felt grand doing that. Happier to have run faster tonight when I felt I would be slower.
