Blennerville (The Spa + The Basin)

Chilly this evening but i'm really liking my one and only Buff these days, never used one until I was given one in France. It came in handy today keeping the cold off my cheeks and neck.

There was snow on the ground and I reckon ice on the roads but didn't slow me in the slightest. I was a bit confused when the heaps of rubble that turned up in the fields last week was cleared today along with older heaps of rubble that was there for years. The ground is rough now in these places but once it grasses over it'll make it an easier run to the first stepped crossing point.

Felt tired at times but not too bad for the last bit, felt better then. Left calf was a bit sore yesterday but behaved today, although bit of a twinge in my right calf as I write this. I'm sure it'll be fine but it'll be tested again tomorrow.

Now for the bit i'm very confused about and have been in last week or so. 2 months ago I did this run in 51.25 with an avg HR of 148. A week later I did it in 52.46 at an avh HR of 151. So today I was 5 minutes slower with an avg HR that was 8bpm higher. Why is this happening???
Have I lost that much fitness, is it the winter, so as you can see i'm a bit unsure of why this is happening or even if it's something worth worrying about.

Tonevane, up into the hills then down to the track and back.

Started off fine, snow on the ground. Had to go down and back up out of a couple of stream valleys with steep sides which was a pain. Then the snow got deeper so started to struggle a bit and ended up walking. Stopped and took a few pics and decided that i'd head back down. The run back along the track was easy but I struggled at times to recognise where I actually was. Thought about doing the loop but felt a bit on the tired side which I wasn't happy about, with the rest the last couple of days I reckoned that I should have felt better.

Made it back down the hill in the car in one piece, not so sure I should have driven up, but I survived the descent!!!

Note
(rest day)

Planned rest again today, but there would have been snow this evening to run on!!!
Crohane training isn't on tomorrow so i'll run up one of the mountains near Tralee instead, maybe do the Bartregaum loop, but that's long, so we'll see what the weather is like.

Note
(rest day)

Wasn't snowing so didn't run! Decided with the weekend ahead that 2 days rest would be good for me after 7 days straight running after a problematic few weeks before that. Legs will thank me for the break next week.

Blennerville (The Spa + The Basin)

Bit damp tonight, but not rain, didn't get wet so maybe you'd call it mist, anyway some form or precipitation or another! Could see it in the head lamp.

Body felt sore to start, well legs felt sore, not like my upper body would be giving trouble. So not a good start but things improved as I went on. Meant to stop and stretch but forgot.

Didn't mention last night but a load of rubble has been dumped in the fields with even more tonight. Means part of the track I follow is covered over. Had to detour slightly around the heaps with there being some tractor tracks to make life a bit rougher.

Second half of the run was not as good as the first. From checking my HR while running I could see it increase a bit. Higher than last night and I didn't feel as comfortable. Pace tonight was 10seconds/km slower than last so again not something to be pleased about.
11 PM

Note

Not sure whether to run tomorrow evening or not. Body felt sore tonight so maybe 2 days rest might be good before the weekend. One thing that would swing matters would be snow. If it falls i'll be running. It is forecast so fingers crossed.

Blennerville (The Spa & The Basin)

Went for it tonight, did the full length of it, decided enough was enough, time to get running properly again, enough of this taking it easy crap, that is until my next injury!

Was a cold night but once I got warmed up it was alright. Canal is no linger frozen, melted on Sunday night/Monday but by the sounds of the weather forecast I could be seeing it frozen again soon.

Felt happier with myself tonight, legs didn't feel too bad. They aren't tired which means I musn't be training that hard. Must really investigate finding myself an intervals group for after christmas.

Blennerville (fields and Basin)

Colder than expected when I started running but was a nice evening. When I turned at the end of the fields I got a surprise to find a cold breeze blowing into my face!

Legs didn't feel too bad, surviving, no ill affects after yesterdays debacle, so happy to be running normally. Have not been feeling too good with recent runs, not sure why, just don't think they are up to scratch so I checked out a corresponding run from last year to compare to this evening.

On the 20/11/2009 I ran this run in 46.37, 4.57/km at an avg HR of 156. From my notes I ran at a good pace for this run with some calf pain in last km.

So what can I deduce from this, not much, although starting to feel a bit better about myself this evening, so will continue running this week.
