Orienteering race 56:34 [5] **** 7.5 km (7:33 / km)

Lower Torc, Kingdom League

Plan was to run hard, and I think I did, no relaxing anyway. 1st control was uphill which was not a good start, then back down to 2 and 3. 4 was a contouringish leg, but back up to 5 before down again to 6. 7 was just road running, then 8 and 9 were easy before more climb to 10. Thought about using the path to 11 but decided i'd go straight, no problems. A long uphill to 12 and also some more uphill to 13 as the slope got a bit messy to maintain my height. 14 involved more climbing and more again between 14 and 15. My route to 15 was different to other people, still made time, but may have been faster to have gone right instead of left. Long path downhill to 17 which I ran well, then across the field to 18 and back to the finish.

Control 16 was cut from the course, but was informed before the start. There was a chopper flying in and out of the Upper car-park ferrying stone to a path they are going building (improving) so for fear of stone landing on an orienteer it was cut. Would only have added distance more than orienteering, maybe 8-10mins more running. But when the path is built it will add a new run from Torc, it's the upper path that goes under the hill that they are working on, one i've run before but would be easier to run with it made better.

Probably won by around 10mins but not much competition. Orienteering was easy enough, so familiar with the place it makes life very easy, but you still have to get between the controls which I was happy enough with.

Garmin said I covered 9.4km.

Walking 40:00 [3] 3.7 km (10:49 / km)

Walked to work this morning, nice morning but chilly. Didn't like the early start either.
11 AM

Note
(rest day)

Had physio last night, wanted to get the legs checked before I start running again on Sunday, particularly the knee to make sure it's better, although it feels much improved. Physio said my legs felt good, hamstrings were in good shape, and right calf was also good, left not as good as right though. Still the session didn't hurt as much as it normally does so that's an indication that legs are in good shape, so rest has worked.

1st run back is Lower Torc on Sunday, although ice-skating tonight is on the menu. Think i'll run fairly hard on Sunday, for the laugh.

Note
(rest day)

Still resting. Arranged a physio session for tomorrow evening to make sure there are no more kinks to worry about, knee is feeling better but I don't trust it. Physio should sort it fully. So will race on Sunday at Lower Torc to start getting back into the swing of running, will try my new ice bugs in a race situation!
