Note
(rest day)

No training planned for today, it's a day of rest. Busy following Elitserien Sprint race at the moment, GPS coverage.

Got physio in the morning too, get the legs worked on before France on Thursday. So whether I train tomorrow will depend on how much pain i'm in and weather, cycling would be the preferred method of training, with a run on Tuesday then.

Also had a good hot dog as a mid morning snack!

Tralee-out N22, then across to N22 past school, then back in from Ballymac

To start with I felt cold and then I didn't really want to do anything apart from sleep. So it pretty much was a disaster of a training session. Despite a big chunk of chocolate my blood sugar was probably too low so that may have caused the trouble.

Found it windy too, what ever way I went, so that didn't help either.

I had big ambitions today, but all came to nothing.

Note

Downloaded my HR data from last night, and it's a funny looking graph. I thought it would have been constant.

Dropped to 34bpm at around 0130, then was around 50bpm for an hour or so. It dropped to 34/35bpm for longer between 0400 and 0550 but between 0600 and 0800 it was a constant 65bpm.

Will repeat this exercise over the next few nights.

Glanageenty, long loop x 2

Managed to stick to my planned route this evening. Felt ok at the start but got distracted after the first climb, saw an animal, thought it was a deer so stopped, but it was a big dog. Was confused as to what he was doing out here in the woods so had a short discussion with him. When I started running again he followed me and just along the track out in the open I came across John Lenihan cutting back foliage along the track!!! Must have been his dog as there were a couple of more with him.

So got around the 1st loop, had to go over the stile rather than through the gap as it had been blocked, but some of the path through the start of the felled area has been improved. After the climb my body felt tired, but got going again for the second part of the climb so that was a bonus. Bit slippier on the descent tonight. At the end of the lap I stopped for a quick calf stretch as that was bothering me a bit at times but ok on second lap.

Met a few people out walking/jogging on the second loop, and another dog close to where I met the first one. Past John Lenihan again. I increased the pace on some of the flat sections for this loop to try and counteract what I felt would be slower hills.

After entering the last bit of forest to finish the loop I disturbed a couple. Found it strange to see a lad lying on his back in the forest, and his partner getting up off him as I go flying past. The lad was fully clothed, but if I was them I would have not parked myself next to a path, rookie mistake.

Very happy to see that both laps were the same, 32.38 and 32.40, but second lap according to the GPS was 300m shorter. No idea how that's the case since it was the same loop.

Tonevane, out to bridge then up around loop, usual route

Windy this evening so had to face it heading out but didn't worry me too much. Did consider trousers before I started but went with shorts, ended up being the right call. Legs felt good during the run and my feet were finding their footing well, stones didn't bother me. So that part was good. On the way back I was thinking about what session to do tomorrow, and earlier at work I was thinking cycling routes for Saturday. I also heard shouting and looked to me right to see a sheep farmer calling his dog up the hill, they were rounding up some sheep, I did spot 2 loose ones closer to the car, the farmer must have missed them.

On the hill at the start of the loop I decided to push things and see how I got on. Worked out alright. I also pushed the second hill after the river. Thought my HR would have got higher but my average was higher today than 2 days ago.

Note

Going to wear my HR strap to bed to see what my resting HR is, probably easier ways to check it but this is my plan.

Tralee-Farranfore-Castleisland-Tralee

Once out of Tralee, which ended up being a bit dicey, there was a couple of cars out to get me, or was I out to get them, I kept the big ring going for the entire route, so that's not bad.

Evening started out with a false start, started to rain as I left the house so turned around to give it a few minutes to pass over. That worked as it was dry when I started. Heading towards Farranfore I could see seriously grey clouds in the Castleisland direction. The road was also very wet coming out of Tralee so there was a heavy shower, could have done with overshoes. Stopped just before the climbing lane and put on my rain jacket, so that left me wearing a number of layers, 4!

The downhill here was bad as there was a headwind. Wind wasn't too much fun at this stage but this was probably the most uncomfortable. Got to Farranfore and then turned for Castleisland, with the rain shower having passed. Had a few raisins before Castleisland and they tasted good.

On the way out of Castleisland I saw a couple of bikes in front of me, reckon they were together but split at this time. So flew passed them, enjoyed that, and left them in my dust, seriously. Into a bit of a headwind back to Tralee but not too bad. It also rained more on me, heavy for a small bit.

The best thing about this evening was that when I took off my jacket when I got home, the gear underneath was only damp, not soaked. So my jacket actually works!!!

Blennerville + The Spa

Very nasty to start out my run this evening, heavy light rain if that makes any sense? But did dry up a bit after a while so wasn't that bad a run overall, and I finished before more rain started.

Didn't set a pace, just ran, think I went out fast so told myself to calm down. Legs felt a bit iffy, calves as usual complaining, especially the left one this evening. Still a bit sore but will stretch big time later so tomorrow should be ok to go again on it.

Note
(rest day)

Taking a rest today, legs probably need it. No plan for this week yet, probably run or cycle if the weather is favourable.
