Bottlehill.

Parked at the bottom of the hill and ran from there. Legs didn't feel too bad after yesterday. Was a bit concerned that tracks would be hard and hurt legs but thankfully it worked out ok.

I got out an orienteering map of the place to run with, it really has changed. Felling has totally changed the area and then new planting has covered some of the rides. There is also the Superdump to factor into the map. Did the loop out to the left and then continued across the dump access road uphill, heading for the highest point. Used to use these tracks years ago for training. Headed off the track and then uphill on a grass covered ride. Once I got to the high point the ride became overgrown. Forced my way along the ride, got onto a farm road and then off that onto another overgrown ride, then found ride out to the right, which then connected with a new ride, not on the map, before I reached the grotto.

Basically without the map my run would have been straightforward but I made it more complicated, but nothing wrong with an adventure, unless briars are involved!

Whitechurch, field behind my house.

Since the last time I ran in the field cattle have arrived, 21 to be exact, I counted. So this mean a new electric fence cutting off a large part of the field. I didn't run in the fenced off section, mainly to avoid ducking under fence every lap and cow shit. So I ran small laps. Started by doing a lap around the perimeter then I started to go from corner to corner, diagonally, downhill, with the uphill along the edge. Did a couple of these laps and then called it a day. Felt ok running but didn't want to push things.

Note

Rest today as i'm heading home to Cork for the weekend. I also think a rest isn't too bad an idea to mind the calf. Plan is to run tomorrow morning, before the rugby starts, and then again on Sunday. Legs are feeling ok today, soreness at times, but probably due to lack of running. Think they may also be suffering from changing from bike to running.

Blennerville, minus basin leg.

Luckily the drive out to Blennerville wasn't an omen for this evenings run. The bridge was closed so i'd to head back into Tralee to get to where I park.

Set pace on the Garmin to 5.20 min/km. Which is slow enough, didn't want to push things.

Wind was very strong coming off the sea so that made running not so easy, and also meant I ran at some funny angles at times to keep going.

Hadn't a set distance to do in mind this evening, but based on the way I was feeling I decided to not go into the Basin, didn't want to push things. Overall there was no trouble, i.e. pain, during the run so I consider a successful evening.

Not sure yet of my training plans for the coming days though. Want to get back into the swing of things, but also cautious.

Tralee-Farranforre-Castlemaine-Tralee

Not as windy on the 1st leg of the journey today, so was able to get to Farranfore a bit faster. Road was a bit damp in places so I avoided paint on the road, wetter by the lines. Nice day for cycling though. Avg speed would be a bit slower than in the summer but that's to be expected.

Happy enough with how I was feeling after a spin on the bike yesterday too.

Tralee-Farranfore-Castleisland-Tralee

Got back from Galway in time for a cycle. Weather was very windy to start off with, headwind all the way to Farranfore which was tough going. Less wind to Castleisland so made better progress. Then had a tailwind for the last leg. Only trouble was the rain that started around Ballymac, light to start then got heavier. Didn't slow me down much though.

For the section outside of town it was 38.4km in 1.22.31. So that puts me 2 minutes slower than last time around this route last week. Still I'm pleased with the effort considering the conditions.

Note

Been in Galway for the last few days on a break. Did bring running gear but that stayed in my bag i'm afraid. Calf is not feeling great. Will try running on Thursday I think based on the weather forecast. Cycling tomorrow morning then is the plan.

Really concerned about my calf, don't have a clue what the problem is, there's supposed to be nothing wrong with it. Feeling better every day but resigned to more pain when I try running again, which will then mean physio. Very very frustrated at the moment.
