Muckross, Upper Torc, Muster Autumn League 1. Late night last night so turned up to the event tired but in a positive frame of mind, wanted to run hard. My plan was to start fast and keep the pace up. First few controls went fine, but there was a good bit of climb between 1-3. Was slow from 3-4 but due to rough terrain which I didn't like. Downhill mostly to 5 so increased the pace until close to the control and after it when going was rough. Then upped the pace on the track to 6 and 7 which was a long track leg. Chose the right route which was all track with an easy attack point closer to the control, definitely less climb than going left. Small bit off direction wise to 8 around some green areas but not much lost. Rough ground again around 9, into it and out of it. 10 was an easy control and then out onto the main road to get to 11. Overgrown getting off road towards 11, got stuck in a few briars and have the scratches to prove it. 12 was again a rough leg underfoot. To 13 I lost the most time i'd say on the course but nothing major, just slightly left but track was there to direct me towards the control, very little time loss. I considered 2 options to 14, left on the track which isn't the best in the world or the straightish option. Felt like I'd had a good race up to this point so chose the straight route which was through nice forest. 15 was uphill and 16 also was uphill. Pushed hard as I was trying to break the hour. Failed by 30seconds, maybe if i'd have gone track to 14 I could have saved 30 seconds but overall I am very happy with todays race. I felt I ran strong and fast, also ran cleanly.
Garmin said I ran 9.3km and climb of 778m!
After looking at the splits there was only 2 controls that I wasn't fastest on, and for both of these I was second fastest, 5 seconds slower on the 1st and 3 seconds on the 4th. Not a bad run then.
