Grass/Road 43:44 [3] 8.48 km (5:09 / km)
ahr:167 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 17

Tester jog take 2 with Fionn, Jack and Niall. It feels better but still not great. Few days off again and hopefully a test on Saturday or Monday! It felt amazing to be back running though even when I was huffing and puffing my way round. I cannot wait to be hitting good training again! I need this shit.

Swim 51:35 [3] 2.5 km (20:38 / km)

I went swimming and coincidentally met Róisín and Mike in Poolside! Small chat and catch up, really great to have her back! This swim was tougher mentally than the previous ones mainly because I didn't have much to think about. The last 500m were especially tough as I transitioned from swimming to just trying to get to the end! I think that will probably be the distance cap on swims from now on. Good to get the exercise in before pints with the lads though!

Cycling 2:34:00 [3] 56.07 km (2:45 / km)
ahr:139

In contrast to the last few rides, this felt like a real grind and only eased mentally in the last 30 minutes. I did the Crone-Glendoo-Kilternan route. There were a few times on the climbs where I could drift off daydreaming which was nice, but on the most part a struggle to get it done. I feel good after though which is always the main thing!

Cycling 1:43:36 [3] 40.38 km (2:34 / km)

I just did the extended Johnnie Fox's loop in the nice sunshine. I kept it pretty chilled at the start and at the beginning of the climb. Then a proper cyclist, in full kit, passed me so I pushed to get back on his wheel and then passed him when he got scared of a stray mini peacock and practically stopped! Stayed ahead of him to the top of the climb and then he just sat on my wheel to Johnnie Fox's. I don't think I've ever been out of the saddle as much as this on the climb before and it felt absolutely amazing to push hard! This ride actually flew by and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am really enjoying all of my training at the moment which is something that feels so good to say!

Cycling 3:14:49 [3] 65.63 km (2:58 / km)

Long cycle with Laurence and Cillín. I felt really good for all of this which is surprising because I normally have a few bad patches. We were going a lot easier than I normally cycle at though. Felt good to ride with the lads though, and I really enjoyed the whole day! We cycled Glendoo-Sally Gap-Ballinastoe-Djouce-Enniskerry. Nice long ride, we'll have to try and do a 100k sometime over the summer!

Swim 44:27 [3] 2.0 km (22:14 / km)

Nice easy swim to try and stave off the legs a bit. I enjoyed it, and I had to throw in small bits of effort going past slow people. I always feel amazing after swimming, I should definitely keep it as a regular part of training going forward.

I was meant to go training early morning before my exam but that never happened. I was happy that I managed to get out after, it was a nice blow out before going out. I just did the standard Texaco ride. Small bit of rain on the way out before a hailstorm on the way back. It was quite unpleasant and painful but also pretty epic, just grinding away. I enjoyed this immensely.

Cycling 2:46:09 [3] 63.97 km (2:36 / km)

Longest ride so far I'm pretty sure. Nice day for it and actually enjoyed it a lot! The climb from Crone to Glendoo was rough as always but got a new lease of life on the descent and I was cruising after this. The last 10km were pretty tough though, quads were starting to struggle. Good training day, happy with it until Ruadhán bested me by 4km! Easy swimming day tomorrow!

Cycling 1:46:26 [3] 40.31 km (2:38 / km)

Extended Johnnie Fox's loop. Quite cloudy starting out so I was wearing my bears jacket. Two minutes in and it turns into a beautifully glorious day. Roasting by the end. Didn't feel great on the climbs but ground them out and could open up a bit on the descent. Big wedding happening in Glencullen, so many cars. Back in plenty of time for my 3pm exam!

Monday May 15, 2017 #

Cycling 45:00 [3] 14.0 km (3:13 / km)

Cycled into town to meet an old friend from Irish college. I was going to do proper training (long cycle) but I was absolutely wrecked when I woke up so figured a day off wouldn't hurt.

Trail/Terrain 35:02 [3] 6.34 km (5:32 / km) +135m 5:00 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 17

Easy jog around the tracks in Ballyward while the family went orienteering. Really lovely place! No HR data annoyingly. Shin splints were wrecked so I think the time has come to take a couple of weeks off running completely.

Trail/Terrain 1:15:17 [3] 11.77 km (6:24 / km) +357m 5:33 / km
ahr:158 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 17

Easy run around the IMRA Tibradden route after a morning exam. I absolutely loathe the stoney paths. If the whole route was like the path from the Wicklow Way to Tibradden summit, the route would be perfect! I had to wait for the car so quite late by the time I got out. Loved it though and was banging out the tunes on the way up and the way home. No better way to spend an evening! Shin splints pretty sore by the end.

Grass/Road 1:00:43 [3] 11.33 km (5:22 / km)
ahr:166 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 17

Easy hour around UCD. I got up to run in the morning, looked out the window and it was lashing. Promptly straight back to bed. Turns out the group wasn't meeting anyway which worked out well. I had dinner and the last episode of Master of None season 2 waiting at home so this flew by. Shin splints were pretty sore, to be honest.

Note

Every step was pure agony but worth it for a national bronze with the boys! Thanks orienteering, it's been fun.
