Not a load of sleep so it was a tired run throughout but glad that I went even though extra sleep was tempting, due to the match later on. More long slow stuff. Well, not too long for now, but that'll come. I did feel hungry towards the end of this so should start running through that for a bit longer soon. Found a nice new trail up the mountainside, wooden jumps for bikes all over it so have to keep the head up but quiet in the end.

Overcast today so I felt good throughout and afterwards but still brought some water. Again pre-breakfast. My right achilles was sore on steeper climbs, tight calf, so ran around the side of the mountain rather than up it.

LSR. Back to pre-breakfast and food wise I felt good throughout. I was planning to be out for 3hrs but started struggling with the heat after 2 hours.

La Traveserina 2016. I managed just over half of the route, which is what I expected.

Unfortunately stubbed my injured toe again after about half an hour. I couldn't really descend after that. The toe is bruised up again but not as bad as last month, as I was able to potter on.

I was moving well on runnable climbs, flats and descents. Some of the guys I was running with went on to run 6 hours. But on the 1350m climb I was apparently the slowest walker in the race. People slowly moving past and away, even though I kept moving. I've noticed this before in some climbs in Ireland where you have to walk, some strength issue.

Full write up to follow.

Again I wanted to do a fair bit of climbing without too much distance. It was hard work on a really warm day but I had water with me. Ran along some new trails, gradually exploring.

I've been meaning to run on these trails for over a year but never made it out. El Naranco, same mountain as usual, but on the far side with some pretty steep climbs. Easy to do a lot of climb in a relatively short distance.

I took the poles with me, in practice for next week, and they were easy to run with and very helpful on the climbs. These steep climbs demand a nice rhythm more than anything else to keep moving well.
My toe twinged with pain once or twice but it feels decent now which is encouraging as today was a tough test for it. This mountain has so many trails to explore that I have no idea about. Half an hour cycle to cut out so much flat running distance to get to it.

Toe feeling pain free now but still very stiff. However I was able to go for a longer cycle today. Really sunny which was nice but made sure to bring my camelback to have some water.
I got to go up the final climb of what will be Stage 9 of La Vuelta this year. It was long and tough but never really too steep which was nice. I wouldn't be able to cycle up the trails that I run up, they're far steeper. Then there was a bit of undulating gravel track where I was very hesitant on the steeper downhills, something to work on. Then road all the way back.
