Started off slow but then nicely into it. Rolling hills were nice. Exploring.
Picked it up the last 7 minutes with a pace just below 4 mins/km. Feeling good but that said none of this was in terrain. Must go looking for it.

Running 13:00 [2] 2.46 km (5:17 / km)

Jogging back after.

Orienteering in Spain. Awesome area, nice map, pleasantly surprised by the quality of it all.

It was so warm, struggling with it on the warm up. Running with GoPro and base plate compass. Also was using a little card as SI. Cool but probably prefer on finger. Started nicely but took a fall to 2, cuts down my hip and painful. Got on with it.

Into 4, not reading the map well and ran straight into an impassable marsh. Sinking, up to the waist. Had to go on all fours to get out.

The rest of the course I was chilling, enjoying the area. I walked a lot, which is dissapointing. I thought my fitness was better but once I hit the terrain its all different. Have to train there more.

11 minutes down, tenth place. However nice to see on my smooth controls good splits. Definitely would be doing around that time on a better day. Lessons learned and all in all one of the most enjoyable orienteerings I've done.

3d Rerun to come.

Note

Moved onto Burela, Galicia for a week. No internet. Weather not as nice as Asturias but yet to get any rain in Spain since I arrived. Big game tonight.

1.7km course in La Fresneda planned by Cillin.
Again very enjoyable. I didn't feel as good today but the pace was as good over a Slightly longer course. Less climb though. No mistakes but I've yet to properly analyse the map for sub-optimum routechoices.

Quickroute

On Review:

Just going to comment on sub-optimum legs.

6 - Nice leg by corbs. I took a bad route, even if I wanted to enter from the north gate my route around the building was longer. All in all the east gate was the shortest route, which I did not see. Gates were closed in the end but still.

10 - Coming back down south was about ten metres better. Tricky to notice such subtle differences, even now at home.

14 - No descriptions on me, forgot. Will be sure to check on next course here. So I just went for the other side of the building when it was under the canopy. Other routes to the east were better. Didn't run all the way to control, thats the main plaza, leave them be.

Happy enough hitting more of the routechoices than not, given the differences were quite subtle. It was only after the race I started to doubt my routes, good course! The more orienteering the better.

Various bits of running between orienteering and intervals and after intervals.

Running intervals 6:55 [5] 2.0 km (3:28 / km)
shoes: Adidas

2 x 1km in 3:32 and 3:23
A nice 1km loop with the first third or so on a path through forest. I enjoyed these although feel on another day I would be quicker. Tired after orienteering and dehydrated. Laura beside me on the bike made it more enjoyable than solo.

Thinking to do a 3km here in two weeks or so. Nice and flat loop, no very harsh turns although harsher than a track. It has been years since my last, which was a 10:51 PB, so it will be interesting to see how I do. I feel like I can push close to 10, or I hope as it will be solo, but I'll need to do intervals, and general training, more regularly if I want to maintain that.

Even though I mapped it back at the end of 2012 this was my first run on La Fresneda. I planned this as a test course for rgmapvideo. Unfortunately I still can't get it to work, I'm sure it's something small but 3D Rerun for now anyway.
Still quite warm at this time of day. I had a stitch for a lot of the course and along with the heat and hills I never had a great physical feeling. Technically it was easy but I still felt like my technique was better than it has been before.
There are no contours on the map (yet!) but hopefully the video reflects some of the slopes, up to 1, up to 6 and the steps to 9 were all hard work to keep the tempo high.

Two more of these courses to do tomorrow, planned by Corbett. Really looking forward to them.

Very mixed run with the bikes, slow in places and then very fast through any sort of downhill. Very warm but feeling good. Beautiful dirt tracks through the countryside. Paella on the farm. Almost therapeutic.
