Orienteering 1:49:00 [3]

After working the start was the last person out on Red. Temperature over 100 by then. Took a while to get into the detailed terrain and had a huge brain freeze on # 2 thinking the control was on a spur rather than in a re-entrant. No one around to help so I spent 20 minutes searching. After that I had a few small mistakes and a medium mistake on # 9. Lots of climb at the end and the temps getting near 110 so had to slow down to survive. Didn't see anyone else the whole way around after my mistake on #s 1&2. Very technical terrain even at 1:7500. Only spiked a couple of controls and did a lot of searching in the circles.

Had to hang around the finish for a couple of extra hours while the e-punch boxes were being collected and de-programmed. A little cooler in the shade, but still close to 100 degrees.

Orienteering 1:49:00 [3]

Mass start on a warm morning. Nice course with many route choices on the longer legs. Had the lead going into #6, but was too far right and off the map.
When I got to the control Walter was already there. We were together most of the rest of the way. The pack closed in on us going from 8-9 as we opted for the straight route which included too many steep ditches. We overran # 10, but otherwise avoided mistakes. Walter was the better navigator and deserved to win.

Orienteering 31:00 [3]

A couple of mistakes at the end. Had sore ribs from kayaking mishap on Wednesday, so hard to run hard and breathe deeply. A few tricky legs.

Hiking 4:00:00 [3]

A couple of hiking trips around Stanley Idaho. Nice terrain with lots of wildflowers in the alpine meadows.

Kayaking 3:00:00 [3]

Kayaking trip on the Middle Salmon River. Nice section of the river with some fun sections of # 2& 3 rapids. Everything was great until I back-paddled to avoid a large rock and felt something pop and burn in the from of my chest.
Couldn't paddle well after that so took a ride on a raft for the rest of the trip.
A lot of ice and Aleve managed the pain OK for rest of the trip. Still a little sore on Tuesday, but seems to be healing. Glad I was able to hike and orienteer after the accident.
Idaho is a beautiful place with lots of wilderness and rivers. Looking forward to going back in the future. The highest temperature was on Sunday at 111 in Boise. In Idaho City it cooled off into the high 50s at night. Usually not so hot there.
