We skipped the Extreme-O to save our beaten up bodies and instead went for a hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park. I know GAOC has a map of the park but I don't think we've ever been to an event there. Cloudy, upper 50s, so quite pleasant. Found about a half dozen permanent O markers, without a map (we had a trail map but they weren't shown on that).

GNC Day 3 on Lake Franklin map at FDR State Park. Brown X, 4.1k, 120m. Sunny, low 40s.

Not a particularly good run, primarily because my body was beat up from two falls yesterday and running was uncomfortable. So I primarily walked the course. I found that the slower pace threw off my focus and I drifted around on the long leg to control 3 and then lost a whole bunch of time (8-9 min) on the short leg to 4. Should've been under an hour, even at a slower pace. Mid-pack on Brown X, 4th in M70 and dropped to 4th for 2-day combined time.

Another well organized event by GAOC. Thanks to the organizers and all their volunteers.

Georgia Navigator Cup - Day 2 on Lake Franklin map. Brown X, 4.3k, 105m, classic distance. Good course by Andi Berger with two long route choice legs. Spur and reentrant terrain with generally open woods with lots of (tiny) man-made features. Rockier underfoot than yesterday. Sunny, low to mid 40s with a stiff breeze in non-wooded areas.

Very good run today. Hit all the controls well but had some sub-par execution on the long leg to 8, costing 1.5-2 minutes. Also lost time to others by not taking the segment of road to 10. Second overall on Brown X and second in M70, 2:08 behind TomN.

Had two damaging falls today. The second was a slip a few steps from control 6 resulting in a bruise on my right outer thigh. On the first I strained muscles in my left upper back heading to control 3 as I avoided hard contact with a tree (did hit it with my shoulder but there's no bruising there). Quite a bit of swelling and pain when I move but no apparent shoulder damage. Starting tomorrow is questionable. At this point it seems that being competitive if I do start is unlikely.

Georgia Navigator Cup Day 1, Middle Distance on Lake Delano map. Brown X, 3.2k,65m, 1:7500. Open woods, excellent visibility and runnability. Fun course set by Sam Smith. 14 controls so lots of short legs. Cloudy and low 40s, good for running but less good for hanging around and for volunteers who weren't running.

Had a good run. Biggest error was on control 11 where I was off to the left on my bearing and chased a bag on a nearby* feature. Figured it out right away but lost about a minute on the leg. A few other hesitations, but those were mostly to be sure I was matching map and terrain features correctly. Second overall on Brown and second in M70, 26 seconds behind Steve.

*Nitpick. The "nearby" feature was the end of a ditch and was just a bit more than the required 30m minimum distance from the pit I was looking for. One could argue that a ditch and pit are "similar features", making the required minimum distance 60m. I think finding the bag/ditch end helped rather than hurt me however.
