PNWOF Day 2. Long at Lubrecht Experimental Forest. Green, 5.7km, 205m. Another good course by Boris in very nice terrain. In the 50s with some very light rain.

Navigation was OK. Overshot the first control but recovered pretty quickly. - lost a minute. Off to the left heading to three, saw the top of the reentrant I was looking for but continued on without checking it - came back to it 3+ minutes later. Lost another couple minutes on 7 when I hit the road exactly where I expected to but things didn't look right and I headed the wrong way on the road for 70m or so.

I thought the 8-9-10 legs were a bit odd from a course design perspective. 8-9 was quite short and involved crossing a barbed wire fence. The leg to 10 was also fairly short (250m) and offered a route choice (through or around som medium green) but involved crossing the same fence as from 8-9. I'm not a fan of barbed wire fence crossings, a feeling reinforced by my finding the second fence by running into it (yes, the barbs can cut you). Otherwise I quite enjoyed the course.

PNWOF, Day 1. Brown course at Lubrecht Experimental Forest near Missoula, MT. Middle distance, 3.1k, 70m, NRE. Pine forest with a range of openness but generally pretty fast running. Subtle contour detail, moderate trail network. Excellent course, with a transition about halfway through into lower visibility after a bunch of wide open stuff.

Some pretty sloppy navigating on my part. Off on bearings to 2, 3, 5, 8, and 10, costing me about a minute each time. On the positive side, in most cases I was able to read the terrain and get back on track fairly quickly. Stopped short going to 7 (a very short leg) an relocated back at 6 - another 2 minutes. Third in M65, fifth overall on Brown.

Gate C13 to F14 at MSP. Our incoming plane arrived at the gate 9 minutes before our connection's scheduled departure, so time to hustle. I walked about as fast as I could while Janet mostly kept up by jogging. They were paging us as I approached the gate and we were able to get on the plane. Kudos to Delta for balancing customer satisfaction with the "on time departure" measurement. (Distance is a guess, as is the time - too focussed on the objective to remember to start my watch. Likely we were at about 14min/mile pace.)

Green course at Mount Norwottuck, set by Phil B. 4.9km, 240m climb. It was hot (80s), parts of the woods are thick and junky, and the map is questionable in places. But it was a nice course with plenty of variety. My navigation was less than stellar with a couple of small errors early on (1 and 3) and two significant errors in the middle (6 and 7) - about 15 minutes lost total. The going was pretty slow due to the heat and in thicker areas where the visibility was pretty limited. There were some nice woods, but didn't do much running even there.
