orienteering race 52:00 [5]
Scottish Champs, Craig a' Barns (the spiritual home of Scottish Orienteering, so plenty of incentive to give my all).
Started Ok, fairly smooth through first moorland loop, then a sudden blur and a disturbance in the force as JH went past like a mini electric-train.
Diredt to boulder at 7, no flag, quick check and then back to relocate and saw it. carried on but missed 8 - not careful enough reading circle detail, also missed a little at 9 but very quick to realise. Getting tired now and took 10 pretty much straight and didn't lose too much time to fastest, 11, 12, 13, 14 all fairly straight forward - nice white forest/open so good vis. 15 - long leg but nice trod out of control then wee path and down to forest road, really pushing hard here, simple. 15, worked out control circle while on forest road and good fast line in, then pushed on through open area and clean on all (plus a couple of fastest splits (they don't often happen these days!). Managed to sneak a win over PM, very happy. But feeling utterly gubbed at end... The week of survey catching up.
