Attempt on Shiehallion with Maroc talent squad - gave up half way - wind too strong. Snow was mix of soft drift and crust, usually strong enough to hold, sometimes not.... Great day out but not a place for youngsters with minimal kit.

orienteering 1:10:00 [4]

Orienteering at Drummond Hill. Hanging & collecting controls, Snow was desperate, 8-12" deep and over knee deep in some drifts. A horrible crust that almost took body weight, then broke. Right shin bleeding from abrasion through hole in tights.

Run down hill after training.

Some running on the golf course with a few strides. Focussing on knee lift and relaxed style. Legs very tired.

Note

4 hours surveying, less snow on ground at start but a couple of showers had it dusted over by the end. Less weather stressed than Wednesday despite wind, air seemed drier!

Head-torch run at Weem with Maroc talent squad. Up hill at back on wee tracks, some amazing cliffs. Snow on ground (much more than Deeside).

Note

Surveying 5 hours, lots of clothes on, stayed nice and warm despite snow and wind. Not too much snow in forest.

orienteering race 46:00 [5]

Deeside Night Cup, Balmedie. Windy night and cold but dry (at least till after I finished).
Course not great - some slightly dodgy features, sand dunes have blown out and drifted in many parts so contours have changed - not an excuse many mappers can use ;-)
Several little wobbles and overshoots but nothing major.

Minimal before start and a wee grovel at the end. Car and changing into dry kit was too tempting.... not to mention the soup waggon!
