orienteering race 1:05:00 [5]

SOL Lossie Forest. Short Brown, 65-28 for 8.7km, 1st (2nd Jon Hollingdale 70-25). Good solid run, 3 small misses (approx 30 secs, 15 secs and 25 secs). Felt tired and sore legged at start (DOMs from Friday) but strong in terrain - all the survey and Finnish terrain have helped! Felt very tired near end, but still some good splits, so maybe hope for summer orienteering in Italy and Croatia.

It was a nice day so I decided to do Morven - went up diagonal track, top in 43, back down straight route in 27. Very pleasant day - warm but not too hot and a stiff westerly breeze - almost chilly on summit.
At the top there appeared to be a Morven shaped hole in the clouds and sun poured down, glorious.
Not sure how my legs will feel tomorrow - felt distinctly wobbly on descent.

Lap of Dess Woods and fields - cut short due to psycho buzzard making its appearance again...... Several close passes, despite my throwing handfulls of stones at it.

Note

5.5 hours surveying, feeling fresher. Area was less hilly but it was even hotter than yesterday - reading 26C when I passed Ballater.

Victory Hall along Deeside way, up to Balnagowan, round ride to top of hill (hundreds of trees still not cleared from winter storms), turned north along Tarland way for 4 mins and back - pushed up from bridge - felt dreadful! Back along Tarland and Deeside ways.
Overall felt a lot fresher than expected. Need to get some consistent training in now the immediate mapping panic is over.

After school running club, a bit of jogging and shuffling around, legs really wiped out. Left thigh caught a branch between 1 & 2 yesterday and suffered a bit of a deep bruise - wasn't an issue running, but after was very sore. Seemed to ease off with a bit of running.
