orienteering race 1:10:00 [4]

O event at Tyrebagger - went 'cos Ewan needed it for JD2 scoring. Really struggled physically - legs felt heavy and out of practise in terrain. Breathing not to great either - still some wheeziness.

steady run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Note

Travelling all day

Friday Oct 25, 2013 #

steady run 26:00 [3]

Morning run to Sarteano to pick up car (left previous night after meal out.... wine was too tempting).

steady run 20:00 [4]

Run from house to Sarteano and back via sunken road. Pushed uphill part to edge of town.

steady run 15:00 [3]

Back from town via Etruscan tombes and stop for final look at view from edge of plateau.

cycling 1:10:00 [2]

Cycling from near San Casciano Bagni up road to foot of Cetona, then along dirt roads (Strada Bianca) towards Fonte Vetriana and back on diagonal road - some improvements to surface but other parts pretty crap.

Note

3 hours walk up Monte di Castallo (north of Arrezzo) - highest point on ridge for quite a distance. Superb forest - mostly beech higher up and chestnut/oak lower down. Cloudy in higher parts so no view - shame, as the top itself was in a clearing in trees. Several white cattle near bottom - but not running away as on the previous day - more domesticated.

Note

2 hour walk at Civita (amazing cliff-top town) and then in valley below - trying to get to the "bad lands" but failed in a maze of bramble patches and slippery, sticky clay mud! Saw lots of wild pigs and semi-wild cattle. Hottest day yet, 25C in car on drive home.

Note

Rest day - visited Cetona and then stayed in house during monster thunderstorm.
