Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

More matwork, lovely warm day ;-)

Sunday May 30, 2021 #

Note

rest day - catching up with ScotJOS members after their runs. V pleasant in the sun and heat :-)

Saturday May 29, 2021 #

steady run 37:00 [3]

Slow lap of Potties from the Green.

steady run warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Cambus time trial
long warm up - about 25 minutes and then a grovel jog round the pond after.

pace run 20:20 [5]

Cambus time trial - set off 2 mins after KC (she was taking it steady). Worked hard but felt reasonably strong on long drag up - though had to ease back on the steeper climbs. Tried to get legs moving faster on long forest road descent. Turned off onto last loop and felt really sick, had to ease back a couple of times. Finally saw Kirsty at the pond and almost caught her on the line.
20-20, so 20 seconds quicker than April's time. Happy enough with that. Suspect the intervals I've done have helped, plus maybe the lovely warm air (+18C).
Anyway more speed work and maybe next month I can dip under 20 mins...

Thursday May 27, 2021 #

steady run 51:00 [3]

Deeside Way to Kinker, riverbank to Warren Cottage, road loop then back to riverbank and Mill, Deeside Way.
Feeling a bit mehh but plodded along and the sun was out :-) Felt like spring finally!

Note

Sat outside after run for about 20 mins and got sunburnt legs...

Wednesday May 26, 2021 #

steady run 31:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods and fields. Feeling decent and fairly good time. A few wet patches - mostly water draining off the slopes, but not too wet in most parts.

Tuesday May 25, 2021 #

Surveying 3:50:00 [1]

Surveying in Monifieth. Very welcoming people in 2 schools in the area - nice change from sometimes!
A couple of heavy showers but mostly dry.
Tired after.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good session, felt strong and well in control for most of it.

Intervals 7:00 [3]

School run club - pyramid session on Deeside way west towards gliding strip. 10,20,30,40,50,60 and back down with equal recovery. Started slowly but sped up as kids got into it.

steady run warm up/down 28:00 [3]

Out through woods to Rhu-na-Haven road then Deeside way to road crossing. And back. Very wet in places but good fun.

steady run 1:31:00 [3]

Wanted to do a longer run but not inspired by most ideas, eventually decided to do a layoff Pannanich O-map-ish.
Parked at lay-by on south Deeside road above Torphantrick - more felling there...:-( and headed west along Ballater path - I'd forgotten how lovely parts of this are :-) then into Pannanich at wee car park and west then up alongside wall/fence at west end - a nice little path developing here. Really struggled up the hill with far more walking than I wanted. south edge of Pannanich forest was mostly OK, just a couple of heathery bits but a lovely run down the eastern edge and managed to cross the electric fences without shocks :-)
Into the woods just south of the and - loads of deer trods to follow here.
Felt decent on flat and downhill but very poor on ups. But glad to have done it.

Saturday May 22, 2021 #

steady run 34:00 [3]

With S, round the Redburn "feel good" lap. Didn't feel very good running-wise, but lovely woodland and views. Past the Moomin troll houses in hte forest.

Friday May 21, 2021 #

Surveying 5:40:00 [1]

schools and parks. Rainy ay start but cleared up by afternoon and even some sun by the end:-)

Thursday May 20, 2021 #

Surveying 4:30:00 [1]

Dundee schools x 5

steady run 27:00 [3]

Lap of Dess woods (no fields) before tea, feeling heavy legged from yesterday.
Forestry machine been munching Dess and now the forwarder is creating its bloody great wallows... :-(( what a mess!

Intervals intervals 20:00 [5]

Deeside Way, Dinnet intervals. Took advantage of the nice shiny new surface all the way from Aboyne - Ballater(?). Started at Boghead (edit - not BoddomEnd!) along to Dinnet, usual start at fence corner. 10 x 2+2. Felt pretty tough, so hope it did some good. Definitely the breathing that was limiting things, legs felt pretty decent throughout. Did 4 out and 6 back, got about 20+ seconds further on return 4 and then 2 "bonus" ones at end... struggling a bit on these. Might be able to push a bit harder if had company, but maybe that would just make me blow up earlier?
Warm day and wished I'd opted for t-shirt rather than thin thermal...

steady run warm up/down 34:00 [3]

Boghead to Dinnet and back. Dinnet Garage has extended its yard area and also removed fence at part of back of yard... hope they're not going to expand south across the track.

Tuesday May 18, 2021 #

Surveying 4:50:00 [1]

Some Dundee parks. Pleasant day - too hot in sun at lunchtime.
Pooped afterwards - lots of walking and not many details :-)

Monday May 17, 2021 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

A real in-person class at Banchory :-) Nice to be back and be able to speak to people.

steady run 35:00 [3]

School run-club. Tarland Way and a few sprints from bridge. 18 out with C, RC and L as company. Good session despite rain... most worked hard on it (esp the younger ones!).

Sunday May 16, 2021 #

orienteering 6:00 [3]

ScotJOS training Loch Vaa. Collecting 3 controls. Had meant to shadow some juniors but too busy at base with coaching.
I call that a result :-) enough other helpers to let me relax and enjoy the actual coaching of juniors (and some catch-up with other coaches.

Saturday May 15, 2021 #

Note

rest day - unplanned, too many things to do and a bit tired by late afternoon.

Friday May 14, 2021 #

steady run 38:00 [3]

Deeside Way (w) then down to riverbank and along to Kinker and back via Deeside Way (e). Felt pretty good in legs - even on steep downhill start!. Best I've felt for a while running.

Thursday May 13, 2021 #

Surveying 1:40:00 [1]

Glen Davan, such a great wee area. Lots of roe deer and couple of brown hares lolloping away and a buzzard flapping lazily around at times.

Wednesday May 12, 2021 #

steady run 29:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods, checking the devastation of the latest thinning/felling... at this rate there will be no trees standing in 10 years time. Maybe Iain needs another extension to the house or maybe an expensive 4x4?

Tuesday May 11, 2021 #

Surveying 2:00:00 [1]

Glen Davan - such a lovely place especially in the sun. Despite the best efforts of the forest machine to ruin it, still wonderful.
Lots of geese in surrounding fields and a Roe deer bounded away at one point.

Intervals hills 18:00 [5]

Deeside Runners Glen Tanar. Hills 6 x 3 + 2. Well off the back of most. Took first 3 to warm up at all and then still having a disconnect somewhere between breathing in and muscles working.
Nice evening at Glen tanar with the setting sun and hazy hills all round.

steady run warm up/down 45:00 [3]

Out along riverbank at an almost sensible pace ;-), back along to track and down through woods at end.

Note

Lungs and legs not aching at all after - neither were really worked hard enough, something else is the limiting factor currently.

Monday May 10, 2021 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Matwork - some good abs and glute work.

steady run 30:00 [3]

School run club, 19 turned out. South over bridge, up to Queens Loch, couple of rounds of man hunt and back.
Very warm and humid.

Sunday May 9, 2021 #

steady run 1:25:00 [3]

Mortlich from home. Feeling rubbish at start but managed to run from bottom gate to top without walking (going affa slow at times tho').
Legs a bit shot for descent but bracken well flattened and nothing else growing yet so pretty smooth :-)
Right knee started complaining in last km or so. Probably just worn shoes and hard surface... I hope ;-)

Saturday May 8, 2021 #

steady run 50:00 [3]

Deeside Way E, pawn to riverbank, along to Warren cottage, back round road then down steep bank to river and back up Dess Burn then Deeside Way W.
Feeling fairly drained - a lot on this week.

Also pee-ed off with election result... The only Con MSP north of Berwickshire... The man-of-the-people Alexander James Amherst Burnett of Leys (he deliberately never uses his full name - apparently he is worried it shows him up as a toff) large land-owner with inherited worth of 30 mill.

Friday May 7, 2021 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Mondays session rescheduled for Friday - the joys of Zoom!
Mostly fine but some shoulder work that might haunt me tomorrow :-)

Note

Shoulders - didn't have any problems with shoulders on Saturday, so all well!

Thursday May 6, 2021 #

Note

polling station from 0630-2230. No time or inclination for a run :-)

Wednesday May 5, 2021 #

orienteering 10:00 [3]

trot round a couple of wee courses at Dundee while assessing some (top quality) tutor candidates.

Tuesday May 4, 2021 #

orienteering 3:20:00 [3]

A second bite at controls. Visited the isolated 8 in the SE 2km from previous control and 2.5km back. A different area to yesterday - chilly wind but sun and no rain. Sat down a few times to enjoy the views to Rum, Skye and other islands. Stunning!

Surveying 1:20:00 [1]

GPS-img around some new rhodie clearing. Nasty shower at start (almost sleet) but then cleared up. Met a guy collecting rhodie shoots for expensive flower bunches! Seems there is a demand... for anything.

Monday May 3, 2021 #

orienteering 3:30:00 [3]

Checking tapes for 6-Day
Weather grim with rain, cold and very strong wind - almost blown over a few times. Managed the majority of sites but bailed on one cluster = 2km in & 2km out to check them tomorrow :-(
Plus a lot of start/finish area to check.
Some superb views the few times I raised my head!

Sunday May 2, 2021 #

orienteering 30:00 [3]

Couple of wee shadowing sessions. Dundurn - lovely with no undergrowth but some marshes were worrying deep (for the juniors) and the place was crawling with ticks...

Saturday May 1, 2021 #

steady run 1:23:00 [4]

With S up Peters Hill. Realised as soon as I started that it wasn't going to pretty. Struggling badly on hill and then a bit of a suffer-fest back along the river. Shame as the woods are so lovely.
Guess it is yesterday's pace effort telling... Need more speed sessions to be able to handle speed!
