cycling 35:00 [2]

Cycle with S to Boddomend track and back

steady run 35:00 [3]

Up Mortlich and back - felt OK on climb (apart from breathing a bit choked at times) but really struggled on steep descent - didn't dare put weight through left leg so harped down :-)

Monday Mar 30, 2020 #

Note

rest day - to give knee more time. did a 40 minute walk which included getting sweaty pushing up a hill. Felt knee a few times but less painful than previous zings.

Sunday Mar 29, 2020 #

steady run 26:00 [3]

Dess Woods - like all runs will be for a while ;-)
knee improving, a couple of tweaks but nothing too bad (first one was side-stepping to get past a walker... )
Even managed to get the pace up going up from DAP main track to top.

Saturday Mar 28, 2020 #

Note

woke up with E's cold... Took it easy today - plus we've started a fairly challenging jigsaw...

Friday Mar 27, 2020 #

steady run 22:00 [3]

Extended run. Knee OK apart from one bad twinge and a couple of little pings. Definitely improving, but I'm still not running totally straight kneed.
Still doing miscellaneous bits and pieces of physio exercises throughout the day.

Thursday Mar 26, 2020 #

steady run 12:00 [2]

Gentle jog down lane then back on Deeside Way. OK at start then a fairly sore tweak and lots of little twinges after. Iced it on return and it seems OK now (1 hour later).
Have been doing lots of short bits of the physic exercises over past few days, will keep doing them and hope to repeat run tomorrow.

Wednesday Mar 25, 2020 #

Note

lots of gardening and a big bonfire - fun payback time :-)

Tuesday Mar 24, 2020 #

Note

walk round the woods with E - about 30 minutes plus lots of gardening.

Monday Mar 23, 2020 #

Note

working in garden, lots of lifting - mostly OK, just a couple of twinges when twisting or badly placed foot.

Sunday Mar 22, 2020 #

Note

walk of about 40 mins, knee mostly Ok.

Saturday Mar 21, 2020 #

Note

walk to test knee - mostly Ok but a couple of painful twinges when pushing awkwardly.

Friday Mar 20, 2020 #

Note

Visited physic - first place I've encountered hand wash!
Knee not long term problem, freed up some tight muscles around it and gave me some exercises to do. Hey ho, start again ;-)

Note

Evening - knee feeling much looser and more mobile this evening - the painful work on it has helped. Light at the end of the tunnel.

Thursday Mar 19, 2020 #

Note

a bit better today but still not runnable.

Wednesday Mar 18, 2020 #

Note

Still not right, booked physic for Friday - lucky to get a JC appointment so soon ;-) a good sign.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2020 #

Note

Knee not 100%, still aching and not straightening.

Monday Mar 16, 2020 #

Note

Knee still sore and decision about pilates taken away - by teacher cancelling (probably got corvid-19). Did some gardening and borrowing which didn't make it worse.
Gradually easing off one rate day but still a problem straightening leg fully. Will give it another couple of days then contact physio.

Sunday Mar 15, 2020 #

Note

Knee not very good. Struggled to walk first thing, then went for a 15 min hobble/walk at Potties while waiting for E to do a wee course. Seems to be gradually easing a little - can just about straighten the leg (5pm) but couldn't consider running on it. No marks or bruising, don't have a clue what caused it.

orienteering race 28:00 [5]

Scottish Middles, Gleneagles. Felt Ok on warm up so pushed hard from start, tough heather early on. Left knee suddenly gave some stabbing pains on inside - ligament/tendon? Eased back a little till the pain softened and then pushed again. Missed maybe 20-30 secs in total. 3rd old man (JT and DR). Happy enough given it wasn't really my terrain (too easy and fast).
Knee definitely feeling slightly wrong this evening - hopefully just a tweak at some point. Will take it easy tomorrow and see what happens to it.

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

to start plus some drills, strides etc. Feeling good.

Friday Mar 13, 2020 #

steady run 25:00 [3]

Home to Aboyne to pick up car. Pleased at how much bounce in legs today, glad didn't try anything harder yesterday. Now for the Scottish Middles tomorrow - could be the last race for a while...

Thursday Mar 12, 2020 #

cycling 20:00 [2]

Home from leaving car at garage, legs felt dreadful so binned idea of some short intervals.

orienteering 28:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting controls at after-school club. Bellwood - lovely condition, mostly dry and forest so pleasant in places.

Wednesday Mar 11, 2020 #

orienteering race 48:00 [5]

DNC Tilquhillie. Last race of the series, not particularly nice forest, decent course but map also a bit iffy in places - vegetation was poor and at night you can't see thick stuff ahead... Anyway, missed 3 badly - too far left and overshot - probably 2.5 mins, then picked lone that had lots of overgrown "open" areas, stopped short at 8 and then 9, map didn't seem to fit the ground shape-wise. 11 - not sure how green was shown but managed to find control reasonably quickly.

steady run warm up/down 12:00 [3]

Before and after - to download.

Tuesday Mar 10, 2020 #

Note

Surveying 7 hours. Tired by end (actually tired by half way through but had to finish...)

Surveying 7:00:00 [1]

Long day, windy and wet at times - not pleasant on open moor. Got it done.

Monday Mar 9, 2020 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Decent session, nothing too drastic

Note

Surveying 3.5 hours - would have done more but getting dark by 6pm

Surveying 3:30:00 [1]

Revision so lots of walking, little standing. Feeling Ok and only cut short due to darkness.

Sunday Mar 8, 2020 #

orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Control collecting at Birsemore - I won hte jackpot and got the southern (high) controls. A bit of a plod up the Fungle but then a lovely slalom through the best bits of the forest and a gentle jog down the Fungle with a dozen controls. Very enjoyable and such a great area.

Saturday Mar 7, 2020 #

steady run 10:00 [3]

Wsrm up along riverbank path showing off the dented Cambus bridge

steady run 25:00 [3]

To start point of control pick and back. Lovely path up from A93 to near Cnoc Dubh

steady run 10:00 [3]

From start of afternoon exercise to car park - every time I run on Muir of Dinnet I see extra boulders...

Note

Legs feeling a lot better today

Friday Mar 6, 2020 #

orienteering 45:00 [3]

Hanging kites for ScotJOS training tomorrow. Nothing in the legs on uphills or rough ground, but very pleasant anyway - glorious area and best time of year for it.

Thursday Mar 5, 2020 #

Note

coaching at MoD - largely waking with some easy running. Out for about 80 mins

orienteering 42:00 [3]

Continued to hang controls for ScotJOS training - some lovely woods and not all been tracked up/brashed by forestry works.

orienteering 34:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting after-school controls. V tired by end (and hungry).

Wednesday Mar 4, 2020 #

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Needed a decent warm-up due to yesterdays session still in my legs.

orienteering race 46:00 [5]

DNC Glen Dye, lovely area, great course (managed to avoid the felling) but placing reflectors on the ground isn't really in the spirit of night-O...
Pleased with technique, mostly had a good plan and executed it well, got a bit scratchy once E overtook me and I tried to up the pace to hang on.
Legs felt poor on long track run but OK in terrain (maybe going a bit slower uses different muscles?).

Tuesday Mar 3, 2020 #

steady run warm up/down 46:00 [3]

to Fungle with Deeside Runners plus jogs down and back

Intervals hills 20:00 [5]

Fungle 10 x 2 with jog back, starting every 4.5. Tough session, first one was desperate - breathing and heart not fully warmed up so grovelling by end. Then eased into it, gradually dropping distance, but only 10-15m difference between best and worst.
Glad to have it done, much helped by the large group form DR!
Lovely mild night, wearing too much for intervals.

Note

surveying 4 hours at Scone Palace, lots of changes!

Monday Mar 2, 2020 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

good session

steady run 25:00 [3]

After-school run club with RC, SR & IW. steady to castle grounds then relays and (inevitably) man-hunt. Leaders did shockingly badly - we're not very nimble!

Sunday Mar 1, 2020 #

orienteering 32:00 [3]

Hanging controls for club training

orienteering 38:00 [3]

Collecting controls after club training.
