steady run 20:00 [3]

Short lap of Dess Woods, to test calf. It was fine all morning till I stood up from kneeling and it felt like something stretched in it. Still went for a run, could feel something but not really painful and higher up than the problems m2 weeks ago... time to see a physio next week.

Note

working on calf in evening - deep massage and a bit of stretching. Still a bit of a hotspot but nothing too painful or lumpy.

Friday Aug 30, 2019 #

Note

Another rest day. Calf feeling OK unless fast deep hell drops and raises off stairs, then just a little niggle.

Thursday Aug 29, 2019 #

Note

A bit of jogging hanging and collecting controls at after-school club, but not worth noting really. Calf felt OK

Wednesday Aug 28, 2019 #

Note

rest day, working on calf, slowly improving.

Tuesday Aug 27, 2019 #

cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Road bike, home, lane, A93 (god I hate that road - cars too fast, too close...), Lumphanan, cross roads, Lumphanan bowl and back, then walk up Deeside Way from west :-)
Legs felt good, left calf still grumbling, bling a bit - I think more thumbs and a few more days off still...

Monday Aug 26, 2019 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Starter, mat work, but felt hard enough.

Saturday Aug 24, 2019 #

Note

Blueberry picking 1-40, 7 litres. Great fun with the berry scoop.

cycling 1:50:00 [3]

Home - Pitmurchie Road - Tarland road - Queens view- Aboyne - home. Very pleasant quiet ride, until I hit the A93 - seems half the drivers here are psychopaths out to mow down anything and anyone on thge road ahead of them...
Left calf had felt strange - niggles in foot, ache in calf at massage area, achy knee. However on cycle all seemed to be OK (apart from left pedal crunching, need to visit repair shop).

Friday Aug 23, 2019 #

Note

rest day, more massage of calf, seems to be loosening a bit.

Thursday Aug 22, 2019 #

Note

rest day - lots of work on calf, tight knot in it.

Wednesday Aug 21, 2019 #

Note

survey 3 hours. Calf a bit tender.

walking 2:30:00 [3]

Tuesday Aug 20, 2019 #

Note

Survey 5 hours

steady run 50:00 [3]

Deeside Runners, intended to do part of session but after less than 2 minutes realised left calf wasn't playing, so jogged round 2 bridges with several stops to massage and stretch calf (low down on inside/front of calf).

walking 4:00:00 [1]

Monday Aug 19, 2019 #

Note

Survey 4.5 hours. Mentally tired and physically struggling, so cut short. Did some berry picking at end :-) Freezer filling up nicely :-)

walking 4:00:00 [1]

Decide dot add surveying as training - it is tiring...

Sunday Aug 18, 2019 #

Note

rest day, tired. Gardening and berry picking :-)

Saturday Aug 17, 2019 #

cycling 50:00 [3]

Keiloch car park to Glen Slugain, mostly fine but a few walks near end on steeper/stonier sections.

steady run 2:15:00 [3]

Glen Slugain to Beinn a"Bhuird south top with S, JH, SR, RB & BS. Chilly wind and rain on ascent then a nasty hail storm on descent. Felt pretty strong on climb but starting to flag on return.
Only had t-shirt and waterproof top/trousers, could have done with a thermal...

cycling 33:00 [2]

Glen Slugain back to Keiloch. Mostly a lovely coast back down the hill, with tail wind :-). Hands a bit crampy from gripping brakes - need to tighten brakes to reduce play in levers.

Friday Aug 16, 2019 #

steady run 34:00 [3]

Steady lap of Dess Woods. Legs feeling tired from intervals but only a tiny niggle in lower left leg - inside of calf - possibly from intervals on slightly rough path yesterday.
Great views from top of felled area - such a superb place to live and train.

Thursday Aug 15, 2019 #

Intervals 18:00 [5]

Lap of Loch Kinord with S. 6x3+1. Felt really strong even if not very swift. No leg or back pains - I'll take that! Probably the best I've felt in an interval session for a long time (maybe not going hard enough...?).

steady run warm up/down 29:00 [3]

jog to start and back from end, plus a bit extra to catch S after picking red-currants.

Wednesday Aug 14, 2019 #

Note

rest day, plenty of gardening and a bit of chainsawing.

Tuesday Aug 13, 2019 #

steady run 1:13:00 [3]

Deeside Runners Gle nTanar, round back of Baudy Meg. Took steady with S, legs tired but also back not happy (lower left) after chain sawing. Very tense early on trying to protect the back but it was fine and running quite smoothly by end.
Back fine overnight - in fact best its been for a while!

Monday Aug 12, 2019 #

cycling 50:00 [3]

Road biking (making sure E doesn't get too much hold of my old bike!), from Glen Dye to home via Corsedarder Hill and Potties. Hold up in Kinker as the coos were moved from fields to field across the road (though they were not moving very much when I managed to get past!).
Legs felt OK, but gears so high on a road bike = hills are hard!

Sunday Aug 11, 2019 #

steady run 3:15:00 [3]

With S (and KH for part) up Buachille EtiveMor and sort halong ridge to new Munro.
Hard work up to plateau then some steady running along much of the ridge. Food wobble near final summit but OK after eating. Tough but good track down from col then lovely run out on path along stream. Legs a bit tired from previous day (descent had hit quads a bit) but mostly felt OK.

Saturday Aug 10, 2019 #

steady run 1:30:00 [3]

Up Pap of Glencoe with S, KH and RB. Almost all walking but working hard and sweating buckets in the humidity. Then a quick whizz down to E in van.

Note

walk up from Kinlochleven while waiting for the Aonach Eagach group to return. Still warm and really humid.
Out about 1 hour

Thursday Aug 8, 2019 #

steady run 1:37:00 [3]

With SR & RB from Aboyne bridge to Carn Ferg via Fungle and long way round, then back via games track and some off-road to get to Cistern track. Fine on uphills and rough ground but getting dropped at end - they're seriously quick on flat (and I'm horribly slow on flat at present...).
Legs felt strong on climbs, so good to keep going on hills - keep the legs for a while longer :-)

Wednesday Aug 7, 2019 #

steady run 34:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods and fields. Feeling tired and legs not working very smoothly, but satisfied with time for loop.

Tuesday Aug 6, 2019 #

Note

Several hours more hedge work - clearing cuttings and shaving more sections, maybe 1 more session to get it finished for another 2-3 years!

Intervals hills 18:00 [5]

6x3mins on Horrible Hill, Glen Tanar. Wasn't looking forward to this, feeling tired and stiff from gardening work but hung on during the warm-up (seemed awful quick) and then took hills steady, well down on first but gradually got better distance and felt really strong (albeit at a slow pace). Must be effect of time at altitude and lots of big climb days (1000m+) in the Dolomites.

steady run warm up/down 45:00 [3]

To bottom of hill and back from top. Return seemed awful quick as well... Glad we weren't doing flat intervals, think I'd have been found out :-)

Monday Aug 5, 2019 #

cycling 52:00 [3]

Dinnet to home (after dropping van for service). Deeside Way to Aboyne then A93 to Kinker and Deeside Way home. Very pleasant though puddles a bit large at start!

Note

plenty of outdoor work, clearing drains, brushing slabs and cutting hedge (start of). Stiff and a bit achey afterwards.

Sunday Aug 4, 2019 #

Note

rest day

Saturday Aug 3, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Best warm-up of week, steady to start then a some stretching and strides.

orienteering race 26:00 [3]

Day 6 Grandtully
Middle distance, started uphill (and lost loads of time start-4) despite running as hard as I could! Course then turned downhill and I sped up and worshipped my compass till the end :-)
6th, more than 2 mins down but had a 10-08 start... all others had late starts so tracking must have helped a bit - probably more in confidently running hard into controls rather than heavy undergrowth.
Reasonably happy with runs this week, near or in the mix, so not too unfit. Need to try to sort various aches (right knee on downhills).

Friday Aug 2, 2019 #

orienteering race 1:03:00 [5]

Day 5, Craig A'Barns, however not much of the old area (tree disease, felling, OOb etc. Course started into great technical forest with plenty of macro and micro route choice early on, then a couple of longer legs to open that had some good routes - not sure I made the best of these... Then some transport legs across moorland and a fairly heavy run in to last control 9bog, slightly uphill... Late start, maybe didn't eat enough after early breakfast, felt very empty energy wise on last part.
4th 1-37 down.
PS not sure the wine last night from MD helped :-)

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

long way to start and warm and incredibly humid, sweating buckets.

Thursday Aug 1, 2019 #

Note

Rest day, spectating at Day 4.
