steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

To start and then a few cursory jogs and some legs stretching.

orienteering race 52:00 [5]

SOL, Dumyat. Started poorly -struggled to read map (contact lenses slightly mis-rotated) then started heading to 12 rather than 2, luckily a decent line anyway... Got going OK after this, just a bit of a struggle to keep running - legs tired and lacking motivation.
Lost time on long leg - went right then doubled back down road. Missed last control - ran right past it and missed finish (mis-marked on map...) cost me 30 seconds or so - and E beat me by 17 seconds... :-) that'll teach me!
2 mins down on CA so reasonably satisfied given tiredness and lack of real drive today.

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Warm up to start

orienteering race 35:00 [3]

Scottish Middle Distance Champs
Decent run - started hard then a bit wobbly on a couple of downhill legs, then nerve spasm in right glute meant leg collapsed... had to slow down to stretch - lost 40-50 secs due to this on 12 then flustered and couldn’t read map leaving 12, missed track and lost 1 minute. Still 3 mins down on CA:-(

cycling 57:00 [3]

Cycle with S from Finzean farm shop to end of Birse road and back - head wind and uphill on way our - 35 mins, back in 22. Nice sunny day but chilly wind.

orienteering 13:00 [3]

Collecting controls from after-school club.

Wednesday Mar 27, 2019 #

Note

6 hours surveying - felling, new fences etc, so quick and a long, long way walking. Tired.

Tuesday Mar 26, 2019 #

cycling 15:00 [3]

Short whiz to the garage to pick up car. Lovely sunny morning, fresh feel to air - great.

steady run warm up/down 46:00 [3]

Along Deeside Way eastwards to start of intervals plus back from end. Only struggled from Dess burn up the final hill.

Intervals 24:00 [5]

6x4+2 on Deeside Way. good session, slightly easy start to get going but pushed all the way to the last one - dying a bit on second half of it. Legs felt OK and less right leg niggling than last week (did a few glute warming-up exercises during jog to start.
Feeling some fitness may be returning.

Monday Mar 25, 2019 #

steady run 18:00 [3]

Wee trot round Hill of Banchory. Felt pretty bouncy (for once?) and really enjoyed it.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

matwork session (last of term). Pleasant workout, nothing too hard.

Sunday Mar 24, 2019 #

orienteering 22:00 [3]

Collecting a bunch of controls, lovely bit of forest but tripped and crashed down on my right elbow and hand holding controls - good lumps on elbow, gonna hurt if I bump it again. Think I was tired and just not looking where I was going, tripped on a wee tree stump barely 10cm high...

Saturday Mar 23, 2019 #

orienteering 32:00 [3]

Checking last controls - feeling pretty wiped out - poor nights sleep and maybe yesterday was harder than I thought (I did enjoy it so much!)

Friday Mar 22, 2019 #

orienteering 24:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting controls for after-school club, I swear I could hang the Castle Wood controls blind-fold now!

orienteering 52:00 [3]

Checking controls for Glen Dye event. Such a lovely forest, legs felt reasonably strong. Windy but mild.

Wednesday Mar 20, 2019 #

steady run 2:20:00 [3]

Running round 6-Days areas checking planners comments. Pleasant day- mild and only a couple of smears of rain.

Note

2 hours checking points of interest.
Found a sheep on its back, righted it but its back legs didn't work so it cooped over again, did this a couple more times then left it - visited farm and luckily the shepherd drove in soon after so explained it to him, he was heading out to sort it last I saw of him.

Tuesday Mar 19, 2019 #

Intervals 24:00 [5]

Set off to do 10x2+1, got to the last one and felt I'd do 1 more, it was poor so another to finish in a better mood. Warm-up from Dinnet, started intervals to west of gliding strip and finished in Aboyne near garage. Lay down for a couple of minutes after session... Then had to grovel home from there - 34 minutes of shuffle, gate by gate, junction by junction :-)
Taps aff for most of session - wonderful warm sunshine.

steady run warm up/down 1:03:00 [3]

Monday Mar 18, 2019 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Tough session, lots of bridging and side work over Swiss ball. Also standing with one foot on ball and calf raising and knee bending - killer for the supporting leg.

Sunday Mar 17, 2019 #

orienteering race 59:00 [5]

CSC match at Dunrod Hill. Lots fo slushy, very slippy snow but decent course and a good run out. Feeling a bit drained - too late last night and poor sleep.
Didn't miss much, a couple of slight bananas - 4 & 5.
Comedy run-in "sprint" on sloping grassy mud and slush covered track...

steady run warm up/down 12:00 [3]

6 mins warm-up to start (almost late!) and then jog back from finish.

Saturday Mar 16, 2019 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Training at Dogmuck country park with World Schools team. A bit of shadowing - enough to get me warmed up for...

orienteering 13:00 [5]

Trial friendship relay - coaches are involved at WSchools.

Friday Mar 15, 2019 #

Note

Rest day - tired after last few days.

Thursday Mar 14, 2019 #

steady run 52:00 [3]

To Aboyne along Deeside Way sand hanging controls for after-school club. Legs felt pretty ropey at start - weary and tired, but got into it slowly. No right leg pains.

orienteering 8:00 [3]

Collecting a few controls in Castle Woods - such a pleasant area to run in :-)

Wednesday Mar 13, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 8:00 [3]

to start of o-ing. Felt dreadful up hill from Burn O'Vat car park - legs stuffed from last night.

orienteering 1:00:00 [4]

WeTT round Muir of Dinnet north, shadowing CC and then EC. Nice course but heavy heather in a few places and my legs didn't enjoy that!

Tuesday Mar 12, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Before and after Deeside Runners to green and back plus recoveries.

Intervals intervals 20:00 [5]

5x4+2 round green. Felt OK and no leg problems at all (yahay). Took slightly steady on first 2 then had to work harder on last 3 to keep position.

Monday Mar 11, 2019 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Felt good despite tough bridges and side leg raises.

Sunday Mar 10, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

To start and bit more back and forth

orienteering race 59:00 [5]

Northern Champs, Wharncliffe. To be honest only at this ‘cos E had selection race. Felt yesterday in my legs and plodded round. A couple of misses and some fairly poor map reading at times (couldn’t work out the quarry line on the slope whenever I crossed it!). Felt I bumbled round without really hitting top gear physically or mentally- need to be sharper for JK!

Note

Hmm fairly high volume week (for me) so maybe less time and try to focus on a bit of quality next week...

Saturday Mar 9, 2019 #

steady run 2:35:00 [3]

Balmoral big loop with RM and RC plus 10 guests - of whom I knew 8 from previous weekends, RaS & RutH. Lovely run with a great group of friends, lots of chat and a nice steady pace. R groin niggled for a few minutes but fine after. Longest run for a while ( 15.5 miles).

Note

Followed by drive to Rivington service area en-route to Wharncliffe...
At least roads very quiet.

Friday Mar 8, 2019 #

steady run 1:00:00 [2]

Running the Highlands at Balmoral. started on usual Friday loop but dropped back to slow guest and we cut route short - visited John Brown statue and back. Shame as many of the guests were old friends! Still legs nice and fresh for tomorrow.

Thursday Mar 7, 2019 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

hanging controls for after-school club and a bit running around - to school and back. Legs feeling pretty good.

Wednesday Mar 6, 2019 #

orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

Checking controls at Glen Dye for Gramp event later in March. Legs utterly shot from last night - no pains but just a heavy, empty feel. Lovely forest and not too much forest grot from thinning work.

Tuesday Mar 5, 2019 #

Note

2 hours surveying school grounds. Slightly chilly wind but fleece and duvet jacket were enough to stay warm :-)

Intervals hills 9:00 [5]

Deeside Runners Tarland Way hills. session was 10x 90", right calf pinging from no. 2 so cut off after 6 and headed home, 3 others lined me and a few more did 8... maybe a slightly ambitious session for the range of runners there!

steady run warm up/down 50:00 [3]

warm-up. downhills and back.

Monday Mar 4, 2019 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

tough session but felt good

steady run 25:00 [3]

Aboyne Loch to bank and then wee loop towards Aboyne Castle. Testing calfs. Right calf mostly good but a bit tight after first 10 mins. Left calf still a bit tender with DOMS but OK running. Need to be more gentle in introducing heel raises...

Sunday Mar 3, 2019 #

Note

Walk at Loch Katrine - calfs too sore to run.

Saturday Mar 2, 2019 #

Note

Maybr 2 sets too much... Really tender calfs - DOMS!

cycling 1:32:00 [3]

Home to Aboyne via Horse pace and Bellwood, then Dinnet by south Deeside Road and back to Aboyne along Deeside Way onto A93 to Dess turn off. Pushing a lot of it. Pretty pleasant and not too many cars cut me up.

Friday Mar 1, 2019 #

Physio exercises 10:00 [2]

Starting again, did 2 sets during the day.
