Monday Dec 31, 2018 #

Note

Day spent avoiding the outdoors in Fort William (rain).

Sunday Dec 30, 2018 #

steady run 1:00:00 [3]

Run (walk) up Meall a Buchaill with SP. More than I had planned but legs felt reasonable.

Saturday Dec 29, 2018 #

Note

Feet sore - left from stones and right big toe - the usual old-broken toe problems.

Note

Not feeling up to anything today, nice chill day at home.

Friday Dec 28, 2018 #

Cross-country race race 45:00 [5]

Deeside Runners Tarland night race. Feeling pretty washed out after last few days but decided to start. Gradually got into the swing of it till the steep climb at top of hill, then struggled on descent - not fast enough on downhill forest road sections. Ended up nearly 8 minutes down on winner. Not very good.

steady run warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Going slow warm-up to try to get legs moving.

Thursday Dec 27, 2018 #

Note

Wander part away up Beinn a'Bhuird with S and E. Late starting so dark by finish. Out about 5 hours.

Wednesday Dec 26, 2018 #

Note

Shifting some wood for next winters supply. couple of hours.

steady run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

to start from finish.

orienteering race 43:00 [5]

DNC Braes (Logie Coldstone). Pleasant little area and mostly flat so quite quick. Missed 3 or 4 controls a wee bit - lost maybe 2-30 to 3 minutes. 9 minutes down on the big boys (Duncan, Sashsa, Josh... stacked field!), maybe first local punter :-)

Tuesday Dec 25, 2018 #

steady run 46:00 [3]

Mortlich with S, E and RH. Pleasant morning, nice sunrise as we climbed.

Note

Wander in the wood to burn off some calories.

Monday Dec 24, 2018 #

Note

rest day - feeling a bit weary. Went for a walk up Creag Lich with S and E, met AT & ET. Lovely sunny day, clear skies and still air. Glorious.

Sunday Dec 23, 2018 #

steady run 1:30:00 [3]

Carn Ferg from bridge with Deeside Runners group. Decent pace up and down with a few stops to regroup. Pleasant day if a little chilly in the glen.

Saturday Dec 22, 2018 #

steady run 46:00 [3]

To village shop, Activity Park and home. Nice easy pace and feeling OK at that speed. Quads maybe a little twitchy on downhills - we'll see tomorrow.

Friday Dec 21, 2018 #

steady run 1:20:00 [3]

Morven night run - only 13 at summit (plus 2 late arrivals). Down from 30 or so the past few years. Pleasant evening - a bit of a breeze but not too cold and clear with an almost full-moon - magic views from the summit.

Thursday Dec 20, 2018 #

Note

rest day. Saving up for tough weekend.

Wednesday Dec 19, 2018 #

steady run warm up/down 6:00 [3]

to start, from finish

orienteering race 51:00 [5]

DNC Potarch - mostly good run, legs felt exhausted on uphills but OK on flats and downs. Good nav and didn't miss much till en-route to 6, cut in too early and lost time in forest rather than path. 8, in circle but didn't have confidence to look round and went uphill to crags to relocate, lost at least 90 seconds. Then snatched a c]glance at map while going correctly to 9 and diverted, another minute lost. Still managed to sneak past FW at last control then held him off on run-in... just!
E beat me by 1 minute... hmmm.

Tuesday Dec 18, 2018 #

Intervals hills 15:00 [5]

10x90 seconds with jog down and bit of recovery.
Started OK but felt like first 4 took forever and worried about rest, but second half went much easier. Pushed last one for 12-15m best distance.

steady run warm up/down 50:00 [3]

Community Centre to Traland way, back same way, struggling a bit.

Monday Dec 17, 2018 #

steady run 1:25:00 [3]

Carn Ferg from Aboyne bridge with S. Feeling a bit heavy legged but enjoyed run - mostly. Snow on upper slopes but not too deep.
Still a bit snotty and tickly throat.

Sunday Dec 16, 2018 #

Note

A bit of a walk round after the Maroc Christmas training session. Still a bit of a cough. Would have gone for easy run but others things took up afternoon.

Saturday Dec 15, 2018 #

Note

rest day - throat bad and coughing a lot - cold still lurking. Also plan for run in afternoon once S back from coaching was not attractive- wind, rain, darkness... so wimped it ;-)

Friday Dec 14, 2018 #

steady run 1:32:00 [3]

Coyles of Muick with S and DM. Nice pace (ie slow!) and lots of good chat. Lovely day but chilly wind - behind us on return along tops - did it the right way ;-) round.
Calf fine - never event thought about it. Time for some more vigorous exercise once cold is completely gone.

Thursday Dec 13, 2018 #

orienteering 53:00 [3]

Run to check a few mapping comments. Pleasant afternoon and legs felt OK though a little tired from night-O.
:Left calf fine, no pain, maybe getting over it.

Wednesday Dec 12, 2018 #

steady run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

To start, mild but windy

orienteering race 44:00 [4]

DNC Forvie, started well then missed 5 to right, about 1+ mins, 6 in wrong place, lost ca1 min, 7 got near control then lost things in blow-out area and lost 2-3 mins. Clean after this but a few wobbles and maybe poor route to 10 and finish.
Mostly good technique and in control, just lost it a few times.

Tuesday Dec 11, 2018 #

cycling 16:00 [1]

Gym, cycle machine 5x1+1, 5x2+1, 2 mins recovery then 2x 30seconds 1 recovery (last 2 destroyed my legs...)
Good session and felt it in my legs afterwards so must have done something.

cycling 34:00 [2]

Warm-up and down.

Monday Dec 10, 2018 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Matwork because last session of term.

Note

Went for a walk in afternoon - too nice not to get out. Brisk walk through Dess Woods, out about 45 minutes.

Sunday Dec 9, 2018 #

Note

Coaching at Scotjos. Calf still tweaky so avoided any running.

Saturday Dec 8, 2018 #

Note

Scotjos training, Hallglen - a bit of walking to starts

steady run 20:00 [2]

Jogging between sessions at Striling Uni. Calf went ping when jogging back from one session - not sure why but very tender and tight. Need more recovery...

Friday Dec 7, 2018 #

Note

Prepping Scotjos training all day then bus to Dunblane. Feeling a bit drained

Thursday Dec 6, 2018 #

steady run 30:00 [3]

Back from dropping car at garage. Very weary but calf wasn't too bad - tight and feeling cramped but little pain on the smooth track.

Wednesday Dec 5, 2018 #

Note

Visited physio in afternoon - he reckoned calf was a cramping knot rather than a pull, so slow running would be fine - and that I could do night-O without much risk (and to stop wimping out!).

steady run warm up/down 7:00 [3]

Jog to start in light freezing rain... lovely!

orienteering race 47:00 [4]

DNC Balnagowan, start at both end of western ridge and course used this and northern section. Nice to visit a different part to normal. Well planned and fairly hung controls.
Good run, lost 20-30 seconds on 8 (pulled high by LG as he left the control), clean after but a slowish route to 10 (stayed off the track to save climb but too slow in terrain. Used track 13-14 and could see control on cars as I slogged up to it. Worst time loss was run(!)-in, drifted right and hit some bracken covered fallen trees, bloody awful!
Calf tweaked a couple of times (start to 1 and 3-4) and aching a bit after, hopefully not any more damage just stretching it a bit far! Need to get rolling and stretching next few days.

Tuesday Dec 4, 2018 #

Intervals 12:00 [5]

Deeside runners on Aboyne Green, session was 6x3 1.5 recovery. Left calf tightened up on 4th so jacked in. Was wearing Salomons rather than road shoes, possibly the cause.
Iced it and it seemed to get worse. :-(

steady run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Warm up and slow jog back...
Cold night -3C

Monday Dec 3, 2018 #

steady run 15:00 [3]

Hill of Banchory loop

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Note

2 hours surveying. Pleasant dry day.

Sunday Dec 2, 2018 #

Note

Helping at Maroc training - had expected t collect controls but enough youngsters (and oldies) volunteered so didn't have to.

Saturday Dec 1, 2018 #

orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Checking control tags in Glen O Dee with E. Pleasant run out, nice pace in the run and only 2 tags not found (one on track junction so probably removed by dog walker and other on large boulder... not so sure why missing - wrongly placed?
Legs feeling a bit better but not much uphill to test them.

Note

Route to Christmas has started on World of O :-)))

and a right cracker for day 1...
