Note

6 hours surveying, tired by end, brain suffering from too much 3-d modelling!

Tuesday Oct 30, 2018 #

Note

7.5 hours surveying, got wet from undergrowth - need to remember waterproof trousers.

Monday Oct 29, 2018 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Note

3 hours surveying

Sunday Oct 28, 2018 #

steady run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Slightly abbreviated warm-up (realised a bit late that start-time was fast approaching!).

orienteering 54:00 [5]

Rpseisle, SOL, short brown. Fairly straight-forward course, managed to get through green controls with only a bit of hesitation then lost some time on a simple leg - ran too fast and lost feel of distance so fumbled along coastal dune for a minute or two. Pushed hard after this. Ended up 4 mins down on Jase. Satisfied with approach to racing despite feeling bit tired and not too motivated. Nice running but course had too many beacon controls!

Saturday Oct 27, 2018 #

orienteering 30:00 [4]

Checking and waking controls for inter-area relays at Grant Park. Straight from bus so a bit sluggish at start.

Friday Oct 26, 2018 #

steady run 58:00 [3]

Corsedarder monument to west on tracks in woods. Nice loop down to Feughside road and back and avoided the worst of the showers. Legs very tired at start but eased in and going OK by end.

Thursday Oct 25, 2018 #

Intervals 16:00 [5]

Deeside way west of home, 8x2+1. Headed west for first 4 and then aimed to improve on return - managed it on all 4, just on 3rd (uphill on return). Hard session but felt mentally good doing it.

steady run warm up/down 40:00 [3]

Long route to start and the usual grovel back up hill at the end.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2018 #

steady run 45:00 [3]

Steady run round Glen O'Dee (had updated map last week so non-comp). Actually really enjoyed it - GoD has improved - trashing dying down and lots of windblown cleared. Stayed off-path for most.

Tuesday Oct 23, 2018 #

Note

Gardening in Aberdeen most of day and didn't feel like running once home. Probably needing a rest day anyway.

Monday Oct 22, 2018 #

steady run 45:00 [3]

Glen Ey with S, killing time while E ran with a mate (plus picking up a forgotten bike wheel at the car park!) Legs feeling pretty tired, glad of shorter easier run.

Sunday Oct 21, 2018 #

steady run 52:00 [3]

Run from wee camper van spot north of Ullapool, down to coast and old fort on promontory then back along some estate tracks. Pleasant run and back just before rain started.

Note

Wander round rocky hill to north of Achmelvich beach, lovely views and amazing gale-force wind!

Saturday Oct 20, 2018 #

Note

Glen Feshie hills - Mullach Clach a'Bhlair in hie cloud then north towards Sgur Gaoith but gave up short of it as visibility so poor. Monster vehicle track all way to within 300m of summit and then along towards Carn Ban Mor - could drive a car up to 1000m very easily!
Great descent - especially coming out of the cloud to suddenly see bright colours across Glen Feshie and Strathspey.
Moving for approx 4-20

Friday Oct 19, 2018 #

steady run 50:00 [3]

Round Loch Morlich with S & E, middle option (rather than short on loch side for longer out to hill above forest).

Swimming 10:00 [2]

Loch Morlich, felt OK temperature-wise.

Thursday Oct 18, 2018 #

Note

walk up Lochnagar via black spout and back to Loch for a wee swim. Out for 5 hours total, probably 4-30 moving time.

Swimming 4:30 [2]

Swim in Lochnagar. A bit parky but i for short enough time to avoid shakes after, though feet and chin very cold.

Wednesday Oct 17, 2018 #

Note

Walk up Creag Ghuibhais (best wee hill in Deeside) with S & E. Saw eagle when descending west side - it flew close then must have decided we were still alive and left - looking for easier prey.
Out for 1-30

Note

Chain-sawing 30 mins. Trying to stock-up for next winter.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2018 #

Note

3.5 hours surveying, tired again

Intervals 8:00 [4]

Deeside Runners, wasn't sure about going, did 2 reps on green and headed back, did 2x3 mins on Rhu-na-Haven Road at end, dreadfully slow.

steady run warm up/down 34:00 [3]

Monday Oct 15, 2018 #

Note

4 hours surveying. Tired legs by end.

Sunday Oct 14, 2018 #

steady run 1:10:00 [3]

Potarch, Sluie, Warlock stone, Kincardine Castle, top road back vis Wood-Rogers. Feeling pretty wiped out legs-wise. No power in tank. Just plodded and got it done. Loverly day - blue sky and sun out for most.

Saturday Oct 13, 2018 #

pace run 20:00 [4]

Hill part of run, working steadily but at a high effort.

steady run 1:00:00 [3]

Kerloch from Mulloch 9-Stanes car park.
With S, ME, KH, SP. Decent pace but glutes aching from last nights session with E!

Friday Oct 12, 2018 #

steady run 35:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods and fields. Again feeling pretty decent. Maybe less training is good for me ;-) or maybe injuries are getting overcome by core work and physio exercises.

Physio exercises 15:00 [2]

With E - following his precise routine to help try it out, felt I was working glutes a lot. Good for me :-)

Thursday Oct 11, 2018 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting controls for after-school club. Feeling fairly good. Legs moving well and energy levels good.

Wednesday Oct 10, 2018 #

cycling 16:00 [2]

Aboyne to home after dropping car at garage

orienteering 35:00 [4]

WeTT at Bell Wood, lovely evening but gradually got darker. Forgot head torch so bailed out at 1845.
Shadowing 2 juniors round a loop. Felt good in terrain and legs not too knackered after last night's intervals.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2018 #

steady run 10:00 [3]

Back from surveying

Note

surveying 1 hour

Intervals intervals 16:00 [5]

Deeside Runners Aboyne green, 8x2-15ish + 1recovery.
Wasn't sure about doing session but eased in and felt Ok till last 2 when felt sick.

steady run warm up/down 34:00 [3]

Car park to green and back the short way

Monday Oct 8, 2018 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good session, feeling strong (lack of running over weekend?).

steady run 35:00 [3]

Out to check bits of map and back. Feeling OK

Note

surveying 30 mins

Sunday Oct 7, 2018 #

Note

Cheering on Scotland at JHI relays. 1st and 2nd in boys, 1st and 4th in girls. Job done!
Feeling utterly drained by the end - too much adrenaline and emotion over the past 2 days. Amazing Scotland win, all 6 class winners, 13/18 medallists, 1st in bot relay classes. I wonder if there has ever been such total domination by one country?

PS Maroc had 4 class winners, 7/18 individual medallists and 6/18 relay medallists. Ever been such single club results previously? - WCOC? SYO? BOK?

Saturday Oct 6, 2018 #

steady run 40:00 [3]

Run from Pitlochry to Faskally and lap of paths - managed to get a free preview of the "Enchanted Forest" by running through it at 4-10pm - gates closed at 4-30 after which it cost £20! All lights on and music playing - I guess testing out before evening crowds.

Friday Oct 5, 2018 #

orienteering 16:00 [3]

Control checking - all there after 4 days in the wood . Some on track junctions... nice pleasant people in Aberdeen woods:-)

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Collecting controls

Note

Been out each day with groups of kids walking/jogging for approx an hour each time (and twice today) Feeling pretty tired - very intensive working with ~230 kids over 5 days.
Now a nice relaxing weekend... coaching Scottish team at JHIs

Thursday Oct 4, 2018 #

orienteering 18:00 [3]

Checking controls in Tyrebagger (again!). Still feeling pretty knackered - possibly more so than yesterday am.

orienteering 21:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting markers for after-school club in Castle Woods Aboyne. Feeling a bit better than this morning - but the woods are lovely and flat!

Wednesday Oct 3, 2018 #

orienteering 17:00 [3]

round controls in Tyrebagger, checking all OK (they were). Legs feeling fairly stiff and achey after last night.

orienteering 35:00 [4]

Maroc no-flags training in Sluie. 3 loop course (did 2). Feeling pretty stuffed, legs not comfortable in terrain after yesterdays intervals. Steady round 2 loops and then chased youngsters downhill to cars (failing miserably to keep anywhere near them!).

Tuesday Oct 2, 2018 #

orienteering 20:00 [2]

Run round controls in Tyrebagger - left out overnight. Non had disappeared - result:-)
Feeling much better than yesterday morning.

Intervals 10:00 [5]

Deeside Runners 2 sets 5xca1min, ca 35-40 secs recovery.
?,?,57, 57, 56; 60,60,58,59,57.
Pleased to manage session without any immediate damage appearing. Much faster than anything I've done for a long time.
Dipped out of 3rd set - too much and getting very dark for running on the green!

steady run warm up/down 32:00 [3]

to green, some drills and back.

Monday Oct 1, 2018 #

Note

wander round Tyrebagger hanging controls. Too early and not interested in running.
