Note

surveying 2 hours

Thursday Aug 30, 2018 #

orienteering 8:00 [3]

Hanging controls for after-school club.

Wednesday Aug 29, 2018 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Glen Davan, WeTT - ran first few controls with the top youngsters - all seemed to be moving well, then shadowed a couple of loops. Lovely area and feeling OK at lower pace - I think race effort would have found me out!

stretching 10:00 [1]

Tuesday Aug 28, 2018 #

steady run 3:00:00 [3]

Run around checking 6-Day map for summer vegetation - gratifyingly small amount.

Note

surveying 2 hours

steady run 48:00 [3]

Deeside Runners, good turn-out, went round 2 bridges with S and a few others - main group did good ole 5x4 :-)

Monday Aug 27, 2018 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Matwork, seemed easy enough, though clams got to glutes eventually!

Sunday Aug 26, 2018 #

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Various pieces of running around.

orienteering race 1:19:00 [5]

Balfour, Brown course (proper Brown - 8.8km). Started hard and going OK, then at about 1/3rd thought that course was almost twice as long as O-Ringen races... then saw two huge long legs and started to wilt a bit. Kept trying to push but struggling by end.

Saturday Aug 25, 2018 #

steady run 33:00 [3]

With E (well, a fair way behind him except for when he deigned to wait for me), Deeside Way west, road to riverbank, east to hut and up cross main road, big-tree avenue, Deeside Way, up past house and into top gate of wood, back over hill - its a long climb from river to top of Dess - varied angle but mostly all uphill, must try it more often, when feeling fresher!
Felt fairly poor - legs drained form intervals and lunch sitting heavy on stomach.

Friday Aug 24, 2018 #

Intervals 18:00 [5]

Deeside Way, Aboyne and west. 6x3+1. Wanted to try something different - harder than 4x4 I reckon, shorter recoveries made the last 2 pretty hard - felt a lot longer than the others!
Legs moving well and breathing OK, cold almost totally gone.

steady run warm up/down 27:00 [3]

Thursday Aug 23, 2018 #

steady run 1:02:00 [3]

Dess Woods and fields, back via Bull-y-vard. Feeling pretty good and breathing easy on hills. Cold just a slightly snottiness in my nose, glad it didn't last longer. Now need to get a few harder sessions in to keep the fitness from over the summer.

Wednesday Aug 22, 2018 #

cycling 23:00 [2]

Down to Kinker and back (bramble picking). Feeling OK

Swimming 7:00 [2]

Loch Kinord with S and E, swimming trunks... maybe a mistake - it felt pretty damn cold!

Tuesday Aug 21, 2018 #

Note

Feeling quite a bit better but not totally recovered, another day off.

Monday Aug 20, 2018 #

Note

Still feeling rough.

Sunday Aug 19, 2018 #

Note

Still choked up, rest till it’s gone.

Saturday Aug 18, 2018 #

Note

Woke during the night with a sore throat - got E’s cold.
On positive side - went to Runrig farewell concert at Stirling - fantastic!

Friday Aug 17, 2018 #

Intervals 16:00 [5]

Deeside Railway intervals towards Aboyne. 4x4+2. Started a bit tentative but got going well, pleased with session. Very sweaty.

steady run warm up/down 36:00 [3]

First time for 2 sets of intervals in a week for a looooooooong time :-)

Thursday Aug 16, 2018 #

steady run 48:00 [3]

Deeside way east, trees to main road, riverbank west to Warren cottage and back via Lumphanan road and Deeside way west.
A bit stiff at start but eased into it and going fairly briskly by end.

Wednesday Aug 15, 2018 #

Note

2 hours surveying.

Tuesday Aug 14, 2018 #

Note

Surveying 7 hours, tired

Intervals hills 15:00 [5]

Deeside Runner at Glen Tanar, went along planning to do 2 bridges loop but everyone went east from chapel so I went with them, then decided to try the hills. Session was great - best I've felt at intervals probably since appendicitis (Dec 2016). Not sure why - maybe holiday has finally got me fit enough to survive intervals/hills. Very pleased with session, started to struggle on last 3-4. Almost bonked on return run, glad E and S had some sweets and chocolate in the car :-)

steady run warm up/down 50:00 [3]

Feeling OK and no right leg issues at all - only remembered to think about it half way through session! Progress.

Monday Aug 13, 2018 #

steady run 39:00 [3]

With S and E round Dess Woods, legs a bit weary but not right hip/glute problems.

Sunday Aug 12, 2018 #

Note

rest day - feeling fairly tired after yesterday and weather not very conducive to getting out.

Saturday Aug 11, 2018 #

steady run 3:20:00 [3]

With S up Tullich mast track then north along ridge to Morven Lodge, past it and round hills to NW, back near it and then the smaller track onto ridge and back via western descent. Not feeling great but nothing too wrong, legs tired by end but still able to push a bit along the road through Pass of Ballater to the car.

Friday Aug 10, 2018 #

steady run 36:00 [3]

Wee run round Banchory with S to test a map-run course - app on phone actually worked for once!

Thursday Aug 9, 2018 #

steady run 50:00 [3]

With S from Queens Loch car park along to cistern track, up to GT mast and down Jamies road back down jungle and past north side of Queens Loch. Lovely temperature (16-17C) and legs felt good on uphill, maybe I've got fitter over the holiday?

Wednesday Aug 8, 2018 #

Note

Travelling home from Newcastle. Lots to do once home and didn’t feel like exerting myself.

Tuesday Aug 7, 2018 #

steady run 1:05:00 [3]

Along beach at Camperduin, hot and sunny, tide coming in so much soft going. Stopped a couple of times for water. Lots of people on beach - not too surprising since 29C at10am.

Swimming 12:00 [2]

Nice wee swim at end of run - absolutely soaking with sweat.
Pleasant but water awful salty after the Baltic at Ørnskoldsvik!
Refreshed after but the 5 min walk to the van got me sweating again :-)

Note

Temp reached 35 as I drove to IJselmuid for the ferry. A bit hot:-|

Monday Aug 6, 2018 #

steady run 42:00 [3]

Stopped at east end of IJselmeer barrier (Lorentz Sluizen) and went for a wee run to explore the old bunkers and the lock gates. Very hot and suffering by end.
Temp hit 32 in Netherlands - and that fairly near the coast, everything looking absolutely patched.

Sunday Aug 5, 2018 #

Note

Woken at 5 by vehicles exiting ferry, drove through Denmark and into Germany, tried a cross-country route to avoid Hamburg, unfortunately so did lots of others and the ferry across the Elbe had a 90 minute wait (despite 4 ferries working!). Found a wee campsite near the Elbe, lovely, helpful and cheap (€15).

Saturday Aug 4, 2018 #

Note

Another day driving, another elk crossing the road ahead of me (near Sysslebäck), ended up in Varberg to get an early ferry to Denmark.

Swimming 10:00 [2]

Splash in Klartjärn with S and K, amazingly clear water and lovely warm sun.

Friday Aug 3, 2018 #

steady run 1:30:00 [3]

Kjerringklumpen at 0730 with S - needed to be early cos of travel plans- felt knackered and half asleep. Legs well stuffed after last few days. Cloud at top and drizzle so didn’t linger - shame as lovely views over Trondheim.
PS almost drove into 2 Elk on drive over to Røros - large female crossed in front of van, then as I looked at it a f**king enormous male cut diagonally into the road about 20m ahead of van! Failed to get any photos:-(
Later saw 70-80 reindeer in lots of groups or individuals, landscape was alive with them! Magic location- will be back.

Thursday Aug 2, 2018 #

steady run 1:03:00 [3]

Up Tommerfjell on Otteröya great rough path and superb views from top, blast down chasing E!

Swimming 12:00 [2]

Great dip in lake half way down hill, very refreshing!

steady run 1:04:00 [4]

Gjeltheiea with S, ground out a tough climb (on dirt road to huge TV mast). Pushed hard on descent - surface just soft enough to provide good grip and a little cushioning. Saw mountain hare - looked huge! Plus an elk on the road to parking (was huge!!!)

Wednesday Aug 1, 2018 #

steady run 3:00:00 [3]

Heilhornet - another great name! With S and E, ran/power walked route, cloud down on upper half - maybe for the good ‘cos awful steep and broken on way places. Worked hard on descent, legs struggling by end - the final section to xarpark was incredibly rocky/rooty/steep.
Well earned campsite by the sea - naw biting bugs:-)))
