Note

Rest day, feeling pretty tired.

Monday Oct 30, 2017 #

steady run 8:00 [3]

Short run round Hill of Banchory

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Small red ball session...

Swimming 12:00 [2]

Loch Kinord, affa chilly, but new long leg/arm suit plus gloves, booties and hat made a difference. Warming up (cooling down?) for Saturday plan.

Sunday Oct 29, 2017 #

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Warm up jog to start plus a few strides, drills etc. Not feeling very bouncy.

orienteering race 1:01:00 [5]

SOL Drummond Hill, short brown. 3rd (when last checked), just over 1 min behind DG.
Decent run but a bit sloppy in too many control circles. Tired and didn't have any real urgency to flog myself physically or mentally. Lovely forest, good running but map showing its age a bit.

Saturday Oct 28, 2017 #

steady run 1:25:00 [3]

Peter's hill with S, quicker up (but didn't faff finding track and start. 38 up but saved 4-5 mins anyway. Record is 20 (Robbie S, so a bit to go to challenge for KoM).
Off to west and down old path, started to really struggle - too early? not enough food? too much over past few days? Anyway legs felt terrible, stiff and awkward and exhausted on return along river side - shame as its lovely woodland but I wasn't appreciating it today.

Friday Oct 27, 2017 #

running drills 5:00 [3]

Short drills session

steady run 30:00 [3]

Deeside Way, Pitmurchie Road, field sand up to top gate and back through woods. Legs feeling OK.

Thursday Oct 26, 2017 #

steady run 1:20:00 [3]

Pressendye and Pittenderich on way down. Plodding but didn't have to walk any sections.

Wednesday Oct 25, 2017 #

steady run 34:00 [3]

Aboyne garage to home after dropping car for service.

Tuesday Oct 24, 2017 #

steady run 1:09:00 [3]

Peter's Hill from the old mill. Steady pace up, no walking at any point, down was hard work - track a bit loose and stoney so had to take care. Various stops to check out the view during descent.
Up 45 down 24 (slightly shorter descent route at bottom - used new track from fence.

Monday Oct 23, 2017 #

steady run 37:00 [3]

Short run at Enniskillen with S before driving to Larne and ferry home to Scotland. Round grounds of Castle Cooke.

Sunday Oct 22, 2017 #

Note

Wander down to Lough Carrig and then wander up through forest and limestone crags in Glen Car near Sligo.

Saturday Oct 21, 2017 #

cycling 4:00:00 [2]

Marrisk to Cong, showery (some heavy but short), high point of 4 days - 280m. Climb was nicely broken into sections and nothing too steep. Whiz down other side towards Lough Mask and long slog back from there - 5 km into headwind (nae nice) but then tail wind blowing us back to Cong and a cafe stop.

Friday Oct 20, 2017 #

cycling 4:00:00 [2]

Letterfrack to Murrisk. Another long day, started dry and stayed that way till near Louisburgh where we stopped for cafe break (bad mistake as it was pissing it down from there to Murrisk with strong head wind). Soaked through again but at least a decent drying room (plant room for huge heat pump system for underfloor heating). Mostly flat again with a couple of short gentle rises. Passed Leenaun and met hundreds of farmers meeting for a famous annual ram-sale.

Thursday Oct 19, 2017 #

cycling 1:30:00 [2]

Clifden to Letterfrack, started in the dry bit pissing rain from about 5km, avoided any extra loops and focussed on getting to the hostel asap! A bit of a wander round the village mid afternoon when only light rain.

Wednesday Oct 18, 2017 #

cycling 4:00:00 [2]

Cong to Clifden. Long day apparently 50k or so, actually nearer 80k. Bit of rain in middle but mostly dry and a tailwind for parts. Lots of lochs, bogs, peat cuttings - and, thankfully, mostly flat. Some good mountain scenery around.

Tuesday Oct 17, 2017 #

Note

Travelling from 8am till 1130pm -to Cong (small town in middle of nowhere, Ireland)

Monday Oct 16, 2017 #

Note

Rest day, long massage on right leg and shoulder/back.
Decided to miss a planned session of running drills - partly to save any irritation of worked over areas and also because it was minging outside most of the day :-)

Sunday Oct 15, 2017 #

orienteering race 55:00 [5]

Sol at Forvie. Strong wind but very mild, never cold and often sweating going up hills.
Decent run technically - missed maybe 30 seconds in total at a couple of controls. Started reasonably briskly but slowed after crossing track to northern part - ground seemed to get softer and heavier every metre towards the finish. I guess I need some more training!
1st on short brown but JH would have been 2 minute quicker if he had pushed correctly.
Leg was fine, as expected in this terrain, but body was lacking in strength up hills...

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Run to start - a bit worried about time so keeping it fairly brisk. Leg OK at start and despite a couple of times when it threatened to tighten up was fine on the path. Great scenery en-route to the start - cliff top path with huge rollers breaking on the rocks below.

Saturday Oct 14, 2017 #

steady run 1:11:00 [3]

Glen Tanar, Stable Yard, across interval start bridge, 2 bridges left up minute hill, left again and then right into nice woodland, back across valley and rejoined track near top of hill. Pleasant run, right leg uncomfortable for 20-30 minutes at start (maybe need to restart drills again). Later in run leg was fine.

Friday Oct 13, 2017 #

orienteering 42:00 [3]

Hanging tapes in Dinnet South - for EUOC training. Such a magic bit of woodland and terrain :-)
Hamstrings very tender - probably from gardening at my parents yesterday (perched on top of wall reaching out to cut hedge...).

Thursday Oct 12, 2017 #

orienteering 10:00 [3]

Hanging controls in Castle Wood. Juniors collected them afterwards - Result ;-)

Wednesday Oct 11, 2017 #

Note

Surveying 4 hours, raining at end... nae sae nice

orienteering 21:00 [5]

Glen Davan, wee course with S and E. Felt very heavy legged and struggling to read the map even with a magnifier - need larger scale? Very pleasant run round.

Monday Oct 9, 2017 #

steady run 12:00 [3]

Hill of Banchory - would have done more but started to rain.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Sunday Oct 8, 2017 #

steady run 1:08:00 [3]

Lap of Loch Kinord from Burn O'Vat car park with various extras, up to Vat at end.
Legs not achey but a bit heavy and tired. Guests not wanting anything speedy or any further - result :-)

Saturday Oct 7, 2017 #

steady run 5:30:00 [2]

Glen Muick car park, Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Carn an t'Sagairt Mor, Lochnagar. Guiding group - started steadily and made sure we walked early hills to let slower runners keep up. Rain and wind increased up Broad Cairn, not sure we'd get much further but wind eased over top and fine out to Carn an t'Sagairt Mor - heavy intense shower here (plus flock of 40-50 Ptarmigan) but short lived. Up track from there and missed out on Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach then last drag up to plateau. Back via edge of corrie and tourist track. Cloud cleared completely as we descended... having been coming and going all run with views appearing and disappearing in seconds as we came round the corries!
Good day out, lots of walking but my legs were not feeling fresh at start so happy to go slow.

Friday Oct 6, 2017 #

steady run 2:00:00 [3]

Linn of Quoich/Lui loop, guiding. Cool day but good for running. Only one guest so it was great he turned out to be a similar pa e and also happy on rough ground (lives near Peak District!).
Hope tomorrow is as pleasant but weather looks a bit poorer.
Right leg mostly OK but a few twinges when we hit flat dirt road in Mar Lodge grounds and had to be careful on tarmac for last 1km.

Thursday Oct 5, 2017 #

orienteering 20:00 [3]

Hanging controls plus a bit of shadowing.

Note

Walking round trying to gee up lazy kids... and then round again collecting controls, legs tired.

Wednesday Oct 4, 2017 #

Note

6 hours surveying, hilly again and windy at start but died down.

orienteering 35:00 [4]

WETT at GD. Took it steady and felt OK, glad not to need to push harder as legs fairly tired.

steady run 8:00 [3]

Short warm-up, very needed after driving home from Embra.

Tuesday Oct 3, 2017 #

Note

Surveying 6 hours, hilly and windy.

steady run 43:00 [3]

With RL to Meadow intervals and a couple of laps then back. Didn't feel like efforts at all, not the slightest temptation.

running drills 5:00 [3]

Some leg drills while waiting.

Monday Oct 2, 2017 #

steady run 6:00 [3]

A bit tight for time so a short lap of the nearest tracks.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Felt good at the session, right shoulder best its been for several months and hip/groin also OK.

steady run 38:00 [3]

Some drills (5 mins) and then a lap of Dess Woods, starting down to bridge, waterfall etc. Leg feeling good - hardly noticed it at all on run - big progress from last week.
Maybe the corner has been turned and it will gradually get back to normal from here. Some intervals next and see how they feel and how the leg reacts.

Sunday Oct 1, 2017 #

orienteering 35:00 [3]

Hanging and checking controls at Cambus O'May. Legs much better than Friday but still not great on hills.
