Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good session, using foam rollers.

Sunday Oct 30, 2016 #

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Fair amount of running around to try to get legs and head going. By start head was OK but legs not really so good.

orienteering race 1:10:25 [5]

Same as yesterday, strong but slow and heavy. Clean through first few controls and then tried to pick up pace a bit on longer legs. Chose left route to avoid climb on leon leg - 2nd fastest but 2 mins slower than CA... Clean through technical legs after this and then faded towards end - food, water, lack of sleep? Held on for win on short Brown 8.8km 70.25 1.5 mins ahead of CA.
please with w/e races, o-ing well and reading map carefully. Will try this approach at DNC start next Wednesday and see if I can avoid my sloppy O at start of night events!
de-training means I'm not tired from training but my legs felt like shit for both races... Will probably do some survey next week so walking might help avoid the bad feeling muscles.

Saturday Oct 29, 2016 #

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [4]

Quick run to start after late arrival. Feeling dreadfully heavy legged. Missed start but got one a few minutes later... turned out to be 1 min behind CA...

orienteering race 40:00 [5]

Culbin middle, 5.3km 39.41. Pleased with run, smooth start caught CA at 4 then pushed with him for the rest of the course. In control and reading map well but feeling heavy legged - strong but ploddy. Ended up 9 mins behind Sasha... hmmm I used to love thrashing through Culbin at 5mins./km, how times change!

Friday Oct 28, 2016 #

Note

Rest day.

Thursday Oct 27, 2016 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Hanging and collecting controls for after-school club. Legs OK but breathing crap - feeling a bit wheezy.

Wednesday Oct 26, 2016 #

Note

Another rest day.

Tuesday Oct 25, 2016 #

Note

rest day = part of de-training.

Monday Oct 24, 2016 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Very pleasant and relaxed.

Sunday Oct 23, 2016 #

steady run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

orienteering race 1:29:00 [5]

Newborough Forest, Brown course. Much the same as yesterday - fewer long legs and more in terrain. Legs tired from start and almost gave up at 3/4s when I went very close to finish. One miss when I drifted a bit left of my planned line and mis-read contours, cost me 1-2 mins.
End ed up 3 mins ahead of CA and 3 mins behind CH.

Saturday Oct 22, 2016 #

steady run 10:00 [3]

Brief warm up

orienteering race 1:18:45 [4]

Newborough Forest, brown course 9.3km. Started steady and kept moving steadily in the right direction. Lost approx 1min on C3 by getting stuck in brambles (avoided them like the plague after that). No real misses, just a few hesitations in the circle and a few slight drifts off line. Ended 5th(?), just 8secs behind CA, and 5 mins down on AT. Lots more brambles than my memory of the forest - forest gradually being swallowed by them.

Friday Oct 21, 2016 #

Note

Wander round Caernarvon castle for much of the morning (free entry due to some poppy display- result!).

Thursday Oct 20, 2016 #

Note

Hill walk on some hills east of A5. 4 hills and out for almost 4.30. Rain stayed off and only occasional cloud - good day out.

Wednesday Oct 19, 2016 #

Note

Had planned a hill walk today - all forecasts suggested cloudy but dry... unfortunately the weather gods don't read the forecasts and it was pissing it down when we reached the start point. So we headed north to coast and wandered along the North Wales coastal path for a bit then visited a local castle. Out for about an hour

cycling 30:00 [2]

A quick whiz round half of Llanberis lake and a walk pushing/carrying bikes for rest!

Tuesday Oct 18, 2016 #

Note

Walk up Snowdon, tried to do Crib Goch but bailed out after some faffing trying to find the route up rocks. Then went up the "tourist" track (completely washed out and unmarked in large sections). No wind till on summit ridge. Came back down via miners track. Approx 3.30 total.

Monday Oct 17, 2016 #

Note

Rest day, travelling to Wales.

Sunday Oct 16, 2016 #

cycling 1:00:00 [3]

7-Stanes, Kirroughtree. Change from yesterday, pissing rain, windy, rough trails and to top it off my brakes were non-existent by the end, reduced to braking with my heels on the track! Nae much fun.

Saturday Oct 15, 2016 #

cycling 1:00:00 [3]

7 Stanes, Newcastleton. Nice trails, good quality and nothing too steep. Dry weather and even some sun.

Friday Oct 14, 2016 #

Note

Rest day - singing weather so no incentive to train ;-)

Watched new Danny Mackaskill video - superb advert for Scotland.

Thursday Oct 13, 2016 #

Note

Hanging & collecting controls at Cambus, walking due to having started de-training phase of medical research (4 weeks of only 10 mins high intensity training each day).
Right thigh a bit tender from 2 muscle biopsies so probably best to avoid running anyway.

Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 #

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Hanging controls at Bellwood. Legs feeling fresh and much better than yesterday.

cycling tempo 15:00 [4]

Bicycle fitness test for medical testing.

Tuesday Oct 11, 2016 #

orienteering 40:00 [2]

Hanging and collecting controls for holiday camp. Legs feeling pretty awful at 0830, a bit better at 1230.

Monday Oct 10, 2016 #

steady run 36:00 [3]

Craig lash road to quarry then down through Sluie to Potties and joined Deeside Way here...

pace run 29:00 [4]

pace effort from Potties to home, through Kinker and up Deeside Way. Eased off on last hill.
Felt crap for first part to quarry turnoff but at Potties started to enjoy things and gradually pushed the pace. Feeling more sprightly than for a while. Dark by end but path is good enough to run in very little light.

stretching 10:00 [1]

Sunday Oct 9, 2016 #

cycling 1:00:00 [2]

With E - parked at Boghead and cycled Deeside Way to Dinnet and along to Cambus station, turned off onto riverbank path (got quickly and severely dropped by E here on the single track...). Stopped at Sloe bush and picked 2 tubs, never seen such large and juicy sloes - looked almost good enough to try raw, but sense prevailed :-)
Back by riverbank track then Deeside Way. Lovely sunny day.

Saturday Oct 8, 2016 #

steady run 1:50:00 [3]

Dinnet - Loch Kinord, old drove road to Cambus, loop at western end, Deeside Way (met SA and then DA on his bike), riverbank path - Dinnet.
First time on that part of river Dee since the floods - utter devastation in places, whole new shingle banks, islands disappeared and new river course appearing. Incredible - need to go for a walk to appreciate it more closely.
Plus spotted some sloes the size of grapes - need to get some!

Friday Oct 7, 2016 #

steady run 26:00 [3]

To Aboyne to pick up car.

Thursday Oct 6, 2016 #

Intervals 16:00 [5]

4x4+2 on Deeside Way towards Aboyne. Feeling tightness in my chest - from last few days problems.
Legs fine and calfs no pain at all.

steady run warm up/down 32:00 [3]

Home to Deeside way and old start point to east of embankment. Reached Mr Grumpy's gate at 3-35 on 2nd interval so a bit down on distance but its good to start intervals again and even better not to get problems!

orienteering 48:00 [2]

Hanging (23) and collecting (25) controls in Bellwood for after-school club. Lovely wood and almost completely dry underfoot - even ditches are dry just now!

Wednesday Oct 5, 2016 #

steady run 47:00 [3]

Glen Dye, car park near road junction then up track to SW onto moor turned south then cut back into forest after 10 minutes (not enough time). Back to end of track and down to car park. Feeling good on uphill and only a bit of ashiness in shins/calfs by end.

Tuesday Oct 4, 2016 #

Note

Rest day - chest still not right.

Monday Oct 3, 2016 #

steady run 25:00 [3]

Easy run to Kinker and back. Feeling a bit tired.

Note

Evening - sore chest came on after dinner, right side felt wheezy and tight - infection?

Sunday Oct 2, 2016 #

Note

Rest day, watching JEC at Doonhill and then waiting for E and S.

Saturday Oct 1, 2016 #

Note

Collecting tapes from relay at South Achray - forest was ankle deep in water everywhere, what a difference to Deeside!

steady run 25:00 [3]

Bites of running up and down Ben A'an. Legs very weary on climb and achy on descent.
