Warm up for Banchory Fun Run

Road race race 19:00 [5]

Banchory Fun Run - 19-07 felt surprisingly good, managed to overtake people on Corsee Raod and caught Callum R near end, Ewen K just ahead and Donald K in sight. 25 secs faster than last year. Pleased with run and time.

Note

2 hour walk round Loch Kinord with S, E and David.

Deeside Runners night run from Shooting Greens, legs tired - at back with Sarah and Marie, cut short so only out for 98 mins total......
Went home and ate LOTS!

Aboyne Loch lay-by to Mortlich and back with Sarah and Ben (plus Clare met us at summit an with us part way down. Lovely morning - sunrise near summit and clam, clear day, snow on hill tops. A great day to be alive and running in glorious scenery.

Hill session on tread mill- 15% and 14km/h 8 x 30 secs with 30 recovery - absolutely bu**ered at end - had to sit down to recover..... Not done anything like that for a long time! Couldn't face a conventional 10x2+1 or such like so tried a novel concept....

On treadmill due to wind outside - didn't fancy an outdoor session.

A tempo session after a recovery from intervals. Actually quite pleasant - a bit of effort to focus on style and pace but nothing too drastic.

warm up 10 mins on exercise bikle then bits on treadmill between other parts and warm-down.

Maroc talent squad plus some others, Queens Loch car park, up cistern track then loop through terrain that Sarah sketched onto maps. Jelly Baby stop at the Guard, a short loop in GT to west and then whiz down Fungle with Ewan - had to work hard to stay with him.
Really enjoyable, good company and decent pace.

Note

1 hour moving stones and gravel to patch some holes in track.

Morven Winter Solstice run, 31 attending. Breezy at bottom but sheltered on much of climb and even at summit wind wasn't too bad. Nice fresh, dry snow from 1/3 way up, ankle deep at top.

Potties bridge to Corsedardar, up through forest and along to Tom's Cairn, east along ridge to Shooting Greens car park and back along Deeside Way to Potties. Sustained push on hills, feeling pretty good, then met DS near end and easy finish, chatting.

DNC Raemoir. Tough course (as usual), going technically Ok but physically slowly till coming back into forest from moor, then missed 2 mins and 5 mins on controls- tried to use vegetation to attack them, but veg had changed since map was made....... so messed around. 8 mins down on JackG & 7 mins down on Drew T.
Need to be more positive and make a better plan B for all controls.

4x4+2 on Deeside Way, very sluggish on first two, better and faster on last 2. Decided to limit it to 4 as its several weeks since I did anything this quick and I don't want to do any damage.

Deeside Night Cup, Sluie, early start so nice quiet forest. Missed 3 badly - realised at end what had gone wrong. A few other wobbles and hesitations but main problem was feeling tired - legs struggled up every hill and I was also being badly affected by bracken - tending to weave round it rather than bash through (dead but still standing in places). Not many trees blown over by last weeks gales - phew!

DNC Scolty - course was brutal and unimaginative - up and over Scolty Hill and back down with just a short loop in nice forest to finish - just as well gales started later in night!
Mis-punched first control - apparently the event theme was "check your codes" - shame the planner didn't tell anyone. 1st and 6th controls had 2 boulders close together with controls......... I was on straight line to first control then saw a marker 20m to my left, assumed my bearing was slightly off and went to it, didn't check code (my mistake) and went on.
Slightly unfair as any carload that had long and short course runners would have seen both different controls and been pre-warned.....
