orienteering race 48:00 [5]

Deeside Night Cup, Forvie. A real epic! Blowing a gale and raining off and on - on an open area. Good course with route choice and tricky detail in abundance. Saw a badger and 3 roe deer - about 4-5m from them! Messed route 5-6 quite badly, going too far round and then heading towards a loch (a permanent one, not a flood!) and having to retrace my steps. Sasha came flying past me on this leg but he must have missed later cos he only finished a couple of mins ahead. Feeling a bit spaced out at end. Legs feeling tired from Tuesday night, but not too bad.

Intervals 23:00 [5]

Aboyne intervals with Deeside Runners. 4x lap of Green on roads (too much water/ice/slush/snow on green!
Paired with Rhona, mostly pretty close at end of each lap.
middle 2 were 5-42 & 5-38, missed first and last!
Legs feeling pretty good, but some wee tweaks and catches - particularly in warm-up! Felt breathing was the main limiting factor in speed.

steady run warm up/down 48:00 [3]

Warm-up across bridge, then some strides and drills there, jog to start at lane near green.

stretching 12:00 [1]

Monday Jan 28, 2013 #

steady run 16:00 [3]

Wee jog round Hill of Banchory, legs feeling good - so they should after a week off running!

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Resistance bands, good fun.

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Leading warm-up at after schools club.

Note

2.5 hours surveying - cold and windy.

Sunday Jan 27, 2013 #

x-c skiing 1:30:00 [2]

Clashindarroch with Sarah and Ewan, slightly wet snow but lots of it and a decent ski round the long loop. Mostly very pleasant but a bit windy on the Haute Route on edge of trees. Out for nearly 3 hours, but plenty of stops.

Saturday Jan 26, 2013 #

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Decent warm-up with a few strides to try to kick start legs. Feeling reasonable.

orienteering race 39:00 [5]

EUOC street event. Men vets class, 8th. Lost over 2 mins at 9 due to actually reading the map and counting alleys (rather than blindly running in and hoping). There was an extra one unmapped just short of the two marked, so I went down wrong alley - seemed completely different to any on the map so I reckoned I must have overshot, went back and down (unmapped) alley - dead end, came back out and eventually down correct one. Most pissed off as it was due to trying to do the proper thing and count the alleys that caused the problem.
Apart from this decent run, mostly very straight forward, some legs downright easy.

Note

20 mins hard snow and sand shovelling to get up track to home - snow has turned to porridge and really deep in places where track not adequately cleared.

Friday Jan 25, 2013 #

x-c skiing 1:20:00 [2]

With Sarah out through Dess Wood, to bullevard and back via cowshit alley. Snow mostly OK, but a bit heavy in places. Gates & fences a pain as usual!

Thursday Jan 24, 2013 #

x-c skiing 48:00 [2]

Loop of Dess Woods with Sarah (on tracks she had skied earlier in the day), then down to bridge and back. Nice to get out exercising - head torches were great in the dark snowy forest.

Note

5 hours surveying

Wednesday Jan 23, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 7 hours, tired and sore feet by end of day - too much tarmac and hard path.

Tuesday Jan 22, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 6.5 hours

Ayr - to beach front and south to river and back. Pleasant run at dusk - superb sunset over the Firth of Clyde.

Monday Jan 21, 2013 #

Surveying 4.5 hours, snowy - 2-3".

Sunday Jan 20, 2013 #

warm up warm up/down 1:00:00 [3]

Friday Jan 18, 2013 #

Thursday Jan 17, 2013 #

orienteering race 45:00 [5]

DNC 6 Raemoir. Actually enjoyed Raemoir!!! Dusting of snow made the forest more attractive, but also helped to show up brashings and other grot! Pretty clean run, a couple of wee wobbles but probably only missed 1 min in total.

steady run warm up/down 8:00 [3]

Better than nothing!

Tuesday Jan 15, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 6 hours - plus 5 hours driving - Moray roads are SHIT - iced over, apparently no attempt to grit them. Various cars off road!.

steady run 20:00 [3]

Short run on Deeside Way nad Dess Wood with head torch, met Iain B out on his bike.

Monday Jan 14, 2013 #

Note

Busy day - driving in snow for nearly 5 hours. No time for proper session.

steady run 10:00 [3]

Warm-up for junior fun-run at Aboyne plus jogging round collecting markers.

Sunday Jan 13, 2013 #

Fartlek 20:00 [5]

Lap of Dess Wood, Cowshit Alley and Bullevard. Fartlek with varying distance efforts. Not looking forward to hard work, but got into it and did some good efforts.

steady run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

stretching 12:00 [1]

Saturday Jan 12, 2013 #

steady run 35:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Wood - very wet underfoot, horses and bikes being in and making a mess of some nice tracks. Knee mostly OK - could feel if occasionally, but nothing too serious.

Friday Jan 11, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 6 hours. More of the same, but slightly speedier progress.

Thursday Jan 10, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 7 hours - dark to dark! nice wood but slow progress

Wednesday Jan 9, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 4 hours- knee fine and calf pretty good as well.

Tuesday Jan 8, 2013 #

steady run 28:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Wood - trying to run carefully to avoid any knee pain, mostly OK - need to work at straightening leg otherwise ham and calf take the strain and start cramping like last Saturday. Felt good and leg fine after. Lots of iceing and some stretching.

cycling 15:00 [2]

To meet Ewan from school. Pleasant afternoon.

Monday Jan 7, 2013 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Matwork and tension bands. Calf/knee OK for almost all - just a couple of stretches difficult due to tightness in knee.

Note

Saw physio, lots of stretching of calfs and hamstring to reduce tension and icing to help reduce swelling in knee. Running allowed as long as pain free!

Sunday Jan 6, 2013 #

steady run 25:00 [2]

Bell Wood - Maroc training - hanging controls and then revisiting some to replace stolen kites. Took steady and careful - calf tight but not badly damaged, I think.

Note

Walk in Glen Tanar to mid point of Sondagsbana to meet runner and supply water/food. Calf mostly Ok except a couple of times when I caught my foot and twisted leg.

Saturday Jan 5, 2013 #

steady run 1:22:00 [3]

Run up Kerloch with Maroc. Left calf tweaked after 500m, but kept going........ sore at end and still sore in evening. 5 days into 2013 and 3 injuries already! I'll be catching Dixie at this rate ;-)
Need to book physio appointment asap, but Alan skiing in Norway till Sunday!

Friday Jan 4, 2013 #

Note

couple of short walks - knee still sore, can't straighten it properly.

Thursday Jan 3, 2013 #

Note

Surveying 6 hours. Tired and left knee very sore.

Wednesday Jan 2, 2013 #

orienteering race 52:00 [4]

HHH at Hazlehead. Steady run round - feet sore after yesterday's run.

stretching 12:00 [1]

Tuesday Jan 1, 2013 #

Intervals 8:00 [5]

2x4x1+0.30 (4 mins jog back between) on Deeside way near home. Feeling dreadful at start, but legs gradually improved. Short sharp session!

steady run warm up/down 37:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Wood with Sarah and Ewan as warm-up for intervals. Lovely bright sunny day.

Note

A couple of walks - Loch Ullachie and Dinnet OakWood. Both small but very nice runnable areas with decent contour detail and worth mapping.
