Railway line intervals west of Aboyne, 8x2+1 Going fairly well but struggling by last 2. Perfect timing as rain started just as I finished and it has pissed it down since!

Shortish warm-up (didn't want too long a session).

Circuits 45:00 [2]

Maroc Indoor session at Banchory. Struggling with circuits - legs shafted from intervals and core not feeling too great either! Particularly cruel to have a circuit type exercise between laps 2 & 3 of normal circuits....

Plan was to run along a ridge near San Casiano dei Bagni, but recent rain had turned track into a sticky mud nightmare (think 3 inch platform soles after 50m of running). Turned back and went instead along "strada bianca" towards Fonte Vetriana - track in good condition for running and still some decent undulations, but harder underfoot than planned for. Very windy and cold - OK 10C!

Pietra Pochiana - loop through oak forest and round visitor centre, down to beech wood and back over top of hill. Lovely woodland - would make a pleasant O area (not too much undergrowth!).

Morning run with Ewan pacing on bike as usual. Before heading off to Rome for the day and staying to pick up sarah from her 2130 flight.

From house to road end and back (as per last week). Ewan cycling along and being kind to me - must have realised I was fairly delicate today!

5x4+2 on strada bianca to north of house. Ewan cycled over with me and kept pace, then had a slow ride home as I was reducing to a grovel while returning. Tough session but pleased to have done it. Started at same place as a session Sarah & I did over 7 years ago when we first took Ewan to Italy and he sat in his pram watching us running to and fro past him!

Street Race in Rome - running past the Colloseum and over the Capitoline Hill - how cool is this??!! Real fun and I set out to enjoy it despite legs feeling like shit after previous days race. Got into a battle with a WE runner and eventually let her way past her control... fine for me but she was not too amused at the time!

Spent a while after with Ewan wandering round Palatine Hill/Forum area. Superb day - but too hot - high 20's.

Intervals hills 13:00 [5]

Hills at Dess with Sarah - from new Deeside Way bridge to top of powerline ride. 3 x 4-22, 4-26, 4-08. feeling very heavy legged and uninspired - pissing rain all day, track wet. Started first one behind Sarah and caught her, on second one probably switched off too much. Last one pushed hard from start, almost stopped at half way but kept going. 4-00 will be possible with fresh legs!

Down Deeside Way to tarmac, up past PBs house and back into top of Dess Wood, back top track to home and down Deeside Way to bridge, then 3 climbs. Warm down along lane to near farm and back.

Deeside Runners on Aboyne Green, 5 mins tempo, 2 recovery, 10x1+1, 4 mins recovery 5 mins tempo. Going much better than last week - I blame my new shiny shoes ;-)

Local event at Bogendreip, Ran Blue (longest course). Tired legs from past few days and struggling in tough bits of forest. Bad error at 8 - left as if I was at 10 (a beginner's mistake!!). Cost me 2-2.5 mins. Apart from this mostly fairly clean.

A bit of jogging on way to start. To be honest the half hour of digging in the garden was probably more of a warm-up!

Leading the Maroc Saturday long run. car-park at foot of Birse track, up track to top of Carn Ferg, down to SW, then back along Fungle track and past keepers house. 5 others with me, very pleasant day, great views. Could have been a bit longer, but no-one complained!
