Through Dess woods. Feeling OK, nice loop, mostly in terrain, ended down at Deeside Way where new bridge being built. Carried log up from marsh.

Victory Hall to Balnagowan, across to river De and river bank to Boat Inn, across Green. Pleasant run, legs tired but tried to keep a decent cadence and not just plod along. Riverbank path getting badly overgrown and washed out in places. Steady rain for last 10 mins.

Note

Walk up Cairngorm and Cairn Lochan with Sarah and Ewan. Fantastic day - sunny and mild with breeze most of way. Mind you wind dropped on summit of Cairn Lochan and the midges came out - at 1150m!!!!
Amazed at number of walkers and the number of paths on the hills - its a long time since I've been this way and paths are proliferating everywhere.

With Ewan and Sarah from Grantown-on-Spey along Dava way to Dava station and back. Lots of whinging from Ewan, feeling tired and track not very good for cycling - more a walking track.

Runrig concert at Inverness. Ewan on my shoulders for most of it - must be worth a mention as training...

With Sarah, hill session up Morven, 28x1+1. Tough - mixed angles and surfaces and lasted a long time!
Wobbled down hill.

Collecting training controls at Inver - felt heavy legged at start and struggled to run up hill at all! 4 from 17 controls missing - thats what comes of leaving them there for 3 months!

Cycle down to Kinker and back - without Ewan - he went to a friend's house. Wet.

Glen Tanar with Deeside Runners. 5x4+2 with Clare, Sarah plus 4 or 5 others. Feeling tired but tried to push hard and keep legs moving fast. Managed to survive the session - pleased with effort. More of these needed to regain some proper fitness.

Great Wilderness Challenge. Started slowly - and got slower. Ended up with slowest time ever but less damage than past couple of times. I need to either give up this length of race or do some proper 2 hour training runs and some pace efforts. Need to think about this!

Crathes local event. Brown courese 8.2km, 61-35. Missed number 2 then pretty clean. Caught by John Rocke early on, held him off for 2 controls, then saw him again at 2nd last! Spongey also caught me late on. Fairly happy with time (10 mins down), but felt tired in terrain and right knee aching all way round - hopefully just tired from Sat walk.

Walk up Lochnagar with Sarah and Ewan. Cloudy and brisk wind at top. Ewan did very well - especially on steep bits - monstered past at least 20 people during the walk. ca 4-30 walking time. Up tourist track, down Glas Allt.

DAP to gate at top of hill - 4-03, so decent time, but legs feeling pretty tired.

To Kinker shop for bread at luchtime. Easy run down, slightly harder return - but managed to keep up with Ewan.

Surveying 5 hours - pissing rain and soaked through, utterly shite weather forecast from BBC, and all the others - isolated showers in NE, My Arse - it was raining for over an hour driving there and for at least 4 hours of the day.

Deeside Runners Glen Tanar - 5x4+2 with Donald Kerridge - all others wimped out to do 2 minutes. Behind Donald esp first 2 - struggling to get legs moving, probably surveying catching up.

Cycle to Potarch Hotel with Sarah and Ewan for dinner and back - harder on return, uphill and feeling full!

Potties to Shooting Green along ridge to Guach Hill and Scolty then down mountain bike tracks to east and retuned via main track and riverbank path then up to main track and out at NW end of forest, up to Deeside Way and back. Feeling a bit tired and lacking bounce early on then got tired after 80 mins (first food stop), tough from 105 mins to 2 hours - second food stop. Struggled to Deeside Way but improved from there back and felt strong at end.

Note

Chain sawing for half an hour just to ensure arms were equally tired to my legs.

Victory Hall in Aboyne west along Deeside Way to carpark beyond gliding strip. Ewan pacing me on his bike - not fun! He held a fast pace the whole way (and was just cruising much of it!). A great way to get a pace run with the extra benefit of lots of "come on slow coach" type quips from him!
Quads still sore.
