Good session, lots of glutes and abs, aching by end.

orienteering race 36:00 [5]

Green course at Glen O'Dee, good course with route choice or map reading required most of the way. Had a batle with Finlay for most of course - he caught me at no3 (I had a wobble going into no1), then I led most of the way but couldn't drop him. Nearly got away at end but he was 30 secs faster overall. Forest much nicer than I can remember it, must be worth a remap and extension??

steady run warm up/down 8:00 [3]

easy jog to start.

steady run 1:58:00 [3]

Glen Dye - Clachnaben by hill race route, over Mount Shade, back via straight line. Felt terrible on way out, struggled on forest road and walked large parts of uphill - no power or energy. OK on descent, but not flying. Not sure what was problem - food? virus?

steady run 34:00 [2]

Jog round some parts of Inchmarnoch checking out junior training for next weekend. Some lovely forest and brashings dying down nicely.

steady run 31:00 [3]

Dess Wood loop, legs feeling a bit tired and aching a bit on rough pasture. reasonable time. pushed on a few of the hills to try and run on toes more than the usual plod.

steady run 46:00 [3]

With Sarah, Aboyne bridge to Guard via Fungle track, back down cistern track and Birse road. Legs a bit heavy but felt reasonable.

orienteering race 40:00 [5]

DNC, Perwinnes Moss (north of Aberdeen). Not inspired by area - gorse and tussocks, but course well planned and I enjoyed it far more than anticipated. After missing first control - ca 40 secs and 3rd - tried to cut across rather than run round - I took things safe and careful, round paths where possible and safe routes into controls. Plenty of hesitations but no errors after that. Head light kept flickering - warning of low battery, but still had 3 of 4 bars illuminated at end... need to investigate!
Nightmare drive - 80 mins to get there, 20 mins lost in one jam and 5 at a set of lights. Crap to drive across town at 6pm!

Intervals intervals 12:00 [5]

6x2+1 old railway line at Aboyne. Not keen to start, but got going OK and quads were fine. Return better than way out - ca 15 secs further (downhill? or better warmed up?)

steady run warm up/down 24:00 [3]

10 min war-up and short jog back after.

Monday Jan 24, 2011 #

steady run 19:00 [3]

Easy run round Banchory - well easy pace, but very sore quads at start.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Mostly Ok but a bit weak on anything that worked quads or general thigh muscles....

Cross-country race race 18:00 [5]

X-C race at Haddo, did 3 mile 'cos 6 mile was too late to get Ewan to skiing in Aberdeen (also I was feeling a bit sair in the legs after yesterday's fun). Started steadily and gradually fell back from a pack (half men, half women) eventually caught 3 young lads and managed to pass them all, had sprint finish with a Fife AC girl - she won!

steady run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Several short runs to warm up, felt OK at start of race and managed to shuffle round a bit after. Quads will be interesting in morning.

Hill Race 30:00 [5]

Devils Burden, leg 2. Not sure of time - didn't take own time. Felt dreadfully slow, and left calf/achilles was tight and slightly tweaky. Pushed as hard as I could up hill, decent descent - pleased with this part!
Team 4th, Alan S and Ali were bloody quick on leg 1, Robbie and Dan amazing on leg 3 and Alan T pretty solid on leg 4.

Worse than I thought - 29-57.... shocking. I need some serious training to get a bit fitter.

steady run 48:00 [3]

Jogged last leg of DB with Alan Smith, Ruth and Robbie, steady pace, but struggling till Alan produced some food. Legs already painful from downhill.

Friday Jan 21, 2011 #

steady run 32:00 [3]

Steady run with Sarah from Aboyne, past castle, golf course and back. Some real icy patches, but most clear.

Wednesday Jan 19, 2011 #

orienteering 51:00 [5]

DNC, Bogendreip, 5km course, mostly pretty clean a few hesitations, but a big blow out on 11 - ran track option for afety, but bungled approach completely, overshot to right, came back, missed again, went back to right, finally found it - 6 mins lost. Ca 30 secs down on Ali R :-( A real lesson in smoothness!

steady run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Intervals hills 8:00 [5]

Hills in Shooting Greens - as part of checking out Sunday training with Sarah. 6x1min & 1x2min. Also a few surges later on in forest.

steady run 1:05:00 [3]

Run from car-park and then round forest checking control sites. Terrain getting better and less grotty. Great boulders in parts! Tracks were pretty evil with ice but forest is generally clear of snow and nicely flattened by snow.

Thursday Jan 13, 2011 #

steady run 31:00 [3]

Dess Wood loop, sustained steady pace, feeling a bit achy across chest - probably shovelling (see note).

Note

Spreading grit on track (or the "Dess Luge Run" as it is otherwise known). Got one ton of 6mm grit from local quarry and spread most of it on steepest and iciest bits of the track. Shoulders, back and cheat aching from throwing it.

Wednesday Jan 12, 2011 #

steady run 38:00 [3]

steady/easy run with Sarah round Dess Wood loop, dark, head torches and very crusty snow. Felt OK, but easy pace so no stress there.

Monday Jan 10, 2011 #

Note

No training again - had a relapse last night.

Sunday Jan 9, 2011 #

orienteering 20:00 [2]

Hanging and collecting controls for Maroc junior training (38 juniors in a snowy Glen O'Dee). Feeling a lot better but wheezing like a steam train! Think I'll take things easy and ease back into some sort of decent training..... maybe!

Saturday Jan 8, 2011 #

Note

Well enough for a slow walk with Ewan and Sarah up Mortlich - ca 2 hours

Tuesday Jan 4, 2011 #

Note

Ill, sore head, cough and aching teeth.

Monday Jan 3, 2011 #

Note

Not feeling too great - wheezy and tired

Sunday Jan 2, 2011 #

steady run 45:00 [3]

Collecting controls from Scolty (used for controllers course back in November.... forest now clear of snow). Feeling good legs but wheezing badly - should probably see GP about this.

Note

Walk with Sarah and Ewan to NE - across fields, lovely afternoon. Ca 1.5 hours

Saturday Jan 1, 2011 #

Note

Walks up on north coast - Findlater Castle and Fordyce village - ca 40 mins. Bitter wind and snow/hail showers, glad to live in nice sheltered Deeside.
