stretching 15:00 [2]

Note

Over 6 hours at Tullochroisk checking map comments for 6-Day. A bit tired by end.

Monday Mar 30, 2009 #

steady run 20:00 [3]

To and from pilates, quick on way out - late, and slower on return. Legs feeling pretty bouncy - much, much better than Friday.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

good session, feeling strong and steady on most - apart from side bend - did on straight arm and not feeling good on left arm, right was fine???

Note

Shovelling more road stone - 3.5 tons over Friday to Sunday - filling holes in track. Arms and shoulders a bit tired.

Note

swimming with Ewan in evening - a fun time and a bit more movement than before so worth a mention!

Sunday Mar 29, 2009 #

Note

spent part of the morning in garden and the rest of the day removing plaster in the old bathroom - lovely job! Just didn't fancy a run and am feeling much more lively this evening after 2 days off so I probably needed a break.

stretching 15:00 [2]

Saturday Mar 28, 2009 #

Note

nae running - still not feeling spritely and spent a few hours clearing the old bathroom ready for renovation.

stretching 15:00 [2]

usual plus some extra stretches from physio for my tweaky right adductor.

Intervals hills 11:00 [5]

11x1+1 - planned on 10 but menaged to squeeeze an extra one out of myself. feeling terrible at start, sluggish and heavy legged, didn't get a lot better as session progressed!

steady run 1:17:00 [3]

warm up before hills, from Aboyne comm Centre to base of Fungle, feeling crap. After hills went on up Fungle almost to join with kennels track , cut up to said track and back to Birsemore Hill via mown trails, down ride and quarry path.

steady run 31:00 [3]

Dess Wood loop, right buttock less achy than yesterday, but still not 100%
Lovely sunny day, but chilly wind.

steady run 42:00 [3]

From home, across Deeside Road, down Inneshewen Road, past monster new mansion, along river bank to Dess Mill and back up field. Feeling tight right buttock - must have tweaked it slightly yesterday. Gradually eased off during run.
Had a fun incident running past the huge new mansion - big car pulls up, window winds down and as I run past a lady asks in a posh, yet foreign accent if she can help - ie "what are you doing on my land?". Reply of "No" worked a treat - she just stared at me then drove off. The beauty of the Scottish Right of Access!

steady run warm up/down 44:00 [3]

warm up/down from Victory Hall along railway line, started intervals at road crossing west of Aboyne. Cold wind and spitting rain (snow on hills).

Intervals 12:00 [5]

12x1+1 along railway line - mostly flat and very good surface. Felt dire on first interval, but got into them and pushed hard all way to end, wobbling a bit on return along railway line - good job its downhill that way! Chose to do short session because A I am still feeling tired from the weekend and B I want to try to sharpen up my legs before Stirling and BOC sprint Champs.

stretching 15:00 [2]

Monday Mar 23, 2009 #

steady run 20:00 [3]

run to and from pilates - cold and very windy - had fitball almost blown out of my arms a couple of times.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Pliates session. Arms very tired from work on tree stumps on Friday and Sunday, but session went very well. Definite improvements in rainbows and raising legs when on ball.

stretching 15:00 [2]

usual, feeling quite relaxed and supple for once..... must do 2 hour O events more often!

Sunday Mar 22, 2009 #

steady run 32:00 [3]

Dess Wood standard loop, feeling really tired and just going slower and slower, so put in some faster short bursts - did perk me up a bit, but only a little!

orienteering 1:57:00 [4]

Culbin "Deep Black" 18.4km. 1-57-21 16th Ist GG 1-37-33. Shame I wasn't inside +1min/km, but can't complain - I lost about 1-1.5 minutes in total, just cruising round and didn't fall apart so thats a bonus. Very nice to run in Culbin, surprising how little I remembered in any detail - I couldn't have run any leg on map-making memory!

steady run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Basically no warm-up, just a short run to the start and off.

Friday Mar 20, 2009 #

steady run 55:00 [3]

Lovely run - Dinnet round Loch Kinord. Warm and sunny - felt like summer never mid spring. Dinnet curling pond was full of thousands of frogs and toads all frantically chasing and mating - ahh the joys of spring!

Note

3 hours heaving rocks around in tree root area of garden. Arms quivering by end - hope they aren't needed at Culbin!

Thursday Mar 19, 2009 #

steady run 30:00 [3]

Dess Wood short loop, lovely warm sunny day, forest drying out nicely after the past couple of dry weeks.

Wednesday Mar 18, 2009 #

Note

Check survey at Kinnoull Hill for 6-Days - satisfying as vast majority of comments are new paths or vegetation changes etc. 5.5 hours, pooped by end esp after long drive home on the tractor filled roads. Lovely spring day - ponds alive with croaking frantic breeding frogs, newts flitting about and toads lumbering around in the grass looking for mates.

stretching 15:00 [2]

feeling good - certainly a lot better than immediately after getting home from survey.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2009 #

Intervals 20:00 [5]

5x4+4 along paths and riverbank from ILPH. 1st interval not great (in fact horrible) - not at best running at 9am and it was uphill for first 3 minutes... Session improved after this and going well by end. Fantastic day - cold air but warm sun - real spring day.

steady run 35:00 [3]

long warm up (16 minutes) and from end of intervals home, still feeling OK on hill from Dess burn, surprised after the work out on Sunday - must be recovering better than expected.

steady run 25:00 [3]

easy run to Aboyne to pick up car from garage

Monday Mar 16, 2009 #

steady run 20:00 [3]

run to and from Pilates - carrying swissball (good for practising running upright!). Raining on way to session - first time on a Monday morning since I started running to pilates.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

pilates class, pretty good session, despite feeling tired from long run.

stretching 15:00 [2]

Sunday Mar 15, 2009 #

steady run 3:30:00 [4]

Mega run from Strathdon with Dave H, Gary and Helen. Never feeling great and tired after 1 hour...... Struggled up hills and going badly through rough peat bog areas. Only thing that kept me going was that the others were also suffering. Not quite sure how I reached the finish..... I guess I need a few more long runs (2 hours+) to do more than survive on a run like this!

stretching 15:00 [2]

usual stretching session

Saturday Mar 14, 2009 #

Note

Course in Perth all day and planning junior training in evening so no time. Also needed day off to recover

Friday Mar 13, 2009 #

Intervals hills 14:00 [5]

Hill session, up back track to Guard and right onto moorland. 6x2+2 hills and a last one after the stream crossing. Not enthusiastic at start, took till 4th interval to focus and concentrate during the whole 2 minutes! Very wobbly by end of session.

steady run 1:08:00 [3]

run from Tower of Ess, to Guard, onto moorland, above Osprey nest, down through woodland and back along Glen Tanar south track. Feeling a bit tired at start and very tired by end.

Thursday Mar 12, 2009 #

steady run 55:00 [3]

checking out a new area, near Banchory. Started in nice semi-open land, then got into a plantation mblock from hell - all spruce and overgrown rides, luckily I was on a large forest road and waltzed through it. No use for orienteering until it is thinned.... 5 - 10 years?

stretching 15:00 [2]

usual stretching

Wednesday Mar 11, 2009 #

steady run 15:00 [3]

hanging a couple of emit controls for evening training - legs very achy and tired from intervals

Note

Surveying 3 hours - Crathes checking join of surveyed areas. Legs very tired and stiff. Almost bonked from lack of food by lunch time

Tuesday Mar 10, 2009 #

Intervals 20:00 [5]

1,2,3,4 x2 1,1,2,2,1,1,2 recovery. Good session, going OK at start (unlike last Aboyne session) and well by end. Allan Sealy, Sam Burgess Peter and Donald Kerridge all ahead or close behind. felt I was moving well on most intervals and recovering better than most of the others, just need to find 5% improvement in speed!

steady run 55:00 [3]

warm up and warm down, long loop with Sam, Warren and Alan. Got the grey world wobbles just in last 400m, stuffed in a couple of sweets in the car and felt better by home.

stretching 15:00 [2]

Monday Mar 9, 2009 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Pilates session, feeling good apart from arms (sawing before session and windy on way over, so ball was flapping about! Lots of arm exercises (I'm sure Emma is a closet sadist...) but managed OK. Really feeling the difference on some exercises - such as leg kick on side (no problems balancing now) and better at rainbow/chalk circles.

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

run to/from pilates, windy on way out, but no ball on return (Genevieve offered a lift for it). Pushed return a wee bit to get back before car - managed it.

steady run 12:00 [3]

run round Sarah's time trial loop for the club training on Wednesday

steady run 7:00 [4]

pushing on 1 lap of time trial course - to get a decent base-line for others. Not going flat out, but blowing by the end.

stretching 15:00 [2]

same as ever

Sunday Mar 8, 2009 #

Note

Rest day - took Ewan round the white course at Crathes - he loved it and raced (for him!) round.

cycling 1:10:00 [3]

With Sarah and Ewan (on tag-along) in Fetteresso Forest - good tracks, but hilly and windy. Forest is GRIM- spruce and felled for mile after mile. Feeling terrible on any climb - on Sarah's bike which was too small and towing Ewan who wasn't doing much pedaling!

Intervals 10:00 [5]

10x1+1 on Birse hill, couldn't face more on 2nd part of Carn Ferg. Feeling pretty crap on decent - legs feeling shot.

steady run 1:10:00 [3]

up Carn Ferg, down along kennel track, then off on small path across to cistern track and back to car at bottom.

12x1+1 from Kinker to Dess Woods - generally uphill, mostly gentle gradient. Good session.

steady run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

warm-up to Kinker (posting letters) then from end of session to home.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2009 #

steady run 1:00:00 [3]

Waterfall, fields, cow-shit alley, over fields to plantation, round edge and back over top and past Woods-Rogers house. Lovely sunny day - views from top to Lochnagar were superb. feeling great at start, a it of a dip half way but perked up at end.
Need to think of some targets for next few months to keep my motivation up.

Note

Head ache on waking after a bad night, so took day easy. Feeling somewhat better by evening. Was doing a whisky tasting, so back late = no stretching.

Monday Mar 2, 2009 #

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

run to and from pilates, feeling good and quite quick.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

good session, tired legs and stiff, sore quads didn't seem to affect me at all.

stretching 15:00 [2]

stretching - avoiding groin stretch as per physio advice.

Sunday Mar 1, 2009 #

orienteering race 32:00 [4]

British Relays - 3rd leg on M40, but Paul on first leg, tore his calf, so we were non comp. Didn't warm up and just took steady - apart from a couple of occasions when I had to overtake someone!

stretching 15:00 [2]
