Note

1 hour chainsawing - sweating buckets!

Wednesday Sep 25, 2019 #

orienteering 40:00 [4]

Balnagowan WeTT, couple of loops in SE area. Pleasant enough but left knee not feeling good - maybe cause of/caused by tight left calf?

Tuesday Sep 24, 2019 #

steady run 48:00 [3]

Glen Tanar, Deeside Runners. Stuck to 2 Bridges loop with S and AS (calf still a bit sensitive from Sunday.
Done some rolling beforehand, need to do plenty more the rest of the week and beyond...

Monday Sep 23, 2019 #

Note

Heart rate seems to be OK by afternoon so will delay visit to GP until it happens again.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good tough session :-)

Sunday Sep 22, 2019 #

orienteering race 56:00 [5]

VHI Indiv. Pentlands hill race (sort O-event). Pushed hard, ran as much as I could and only 1-30 behind NB, unfortunately PM had a flyer so was 7 mins down...
5th M55 which given state of my legs and the type of area wasn't too bad, managed to beat all the M60s, but plenty of W35/40s ahead!

Saturday Sep 21, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Decent warm-up before VHI relays. Legs feeling OK

orienteering race 31:00 [5]

VHI relays... a bit of a debacle, 2 comedy errors (ran past one control due to trying to use rhododendron bushes as an indication of location. 2.5 mins gone. Then turned right out of a control instead a left (another minute).
Then in second half has to stop about 5 or 6 times because I felt I was going to pass out. Had to stop, bend over and catch breath till world came into view again.

Friday Sep 20, 2019 #

Note

all day in Embra with E, sorting a visa

Thursday Sep 19, 2019 #

orienteering 10:00 [3]

orienteering 8:00 [3]

Calf totally fine.

Wednesday Sep 18, 2019 #

orienteering 45:00 [3]

Shadowing CW round WeTT at Redburn. wet evening but pleasant trot round with plenty of stops to discuss plans, options etc.
Never aware of calf :-)

Tuesday Sep 17, 2019 #

steady run 31:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods with E. Very pleasant evening and great views. Legs feeling OK, calf fine.

Monday Sep 16, 2019 #

steady run 10:00 [3]

Very short jog round Hill of Banchory. Some brambles ripening, but generally too much shade.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Felt tough - lots of ab work. See what tomorrow brings!

Note

Surveying 1 hour.

Sunday Sep 15, 2019 #

orienteering 32:00 [3]

Hanging controls in Dess, pleasant but left knee stiff.

orienteering 26:00 [3]

Collecting controls. Knee a bit looser but still felt a bit swollen and stiff.

Saturday Sep 14, 2019 #

steady run 2:00:00 [3]

Glen Muick road junction to Glen Tanar Stable yard car park.
Wanted a decent long run, had the offer of a drop-off and pick-up so checked the weather (strong westerly wind) and decided this route.
Long grind up to col below Carn Luchain - managed non stop (apart from gate) in 35 mins to wee hut. Then across moor (track disappears) and down into Glen Tanar. Seveal fences and some fairly chossy grassy bog but once on main track picked up to a steady pace and held it there. Pushed quite hard near end to try to dip under the 2 hours - managed 2-00-30!
Pleased with run - a long run on my own without any issues of getting bored or switching off. Left calf totally fine. Rest of legs, back etc were well behaved, so I reckon I've not got any broken issues at all just now (tough wood...).

Friday Sep 13, 2019 #

cycling 20:00 [3]

To Kinker and back for bramble expedition. Legs felt tired on climb, yesterday kicking in.

Note

walk round Aboyne Loch with Sarah, her first activity since Pyrenees adventure ;-)

Thursday Sep 12, 2019 #

steady run 1:00:00 [3]

Glenmore lodge, up through woodland to SE - mostly runnable if steep, some lovely plantation and a few lochs, marches etc. Out of woods onto moor and turned left towards ski road then back down hill - managed to find some horrendous heather and deep plough lines on parts of the descent - felt i was moving slower than on the climb in parts! Legs felt really strong on climb and left calf was very well behaved, hardly felt anything.

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Hanging, looking for lost child, collecting and to tennis courts (Ewan in car!). Felt a bit leg weary but all else fine.

Wednesday Sep 11, 2019 #

steady run 39:00 [3]

Deeside way, riverbank, loop to Iain's and back over top track. Back a bit spasmy - felt tight this morning, but loosened after a few minutes. Lovely day but humid. Calf fine.

Tuesday Sep 10, 2019 #

steady run 26:00 [3]

Short lap of woods. Calf feeling OK, but wheezing a bit and legs heavy as lead. Better by end.

Monday Sep 9, 2019 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

good session, felt strong (if a bit mentally fogged).

Sunday Sep 8, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Lots of faffing before start of SOL. Not at all with it...

orienteering race 51:00 [4]

Had to enter brown (forgot to pre-enter and E got last Blue course). 8.3km and I wasn't feeling very bright (to say the least). Pushed first 4 controls, then missed 4 badly (parallel error and not enough map checking...), jacked before 5 and picked up the ridge top controls in straight line back - the forest is so beautiful and the blueberries were great ;-)
Too tired from ScotJOS weekend despite not planning or much coaching (18s plan the last blast sessions).

Saturday Sep 7, 2019 #

orienteering 35:00 [3]

A bit of shadowing and control collecting in Grandtully. Mostly very pleasant forest and downhill course :-)

steady run warm up/down 12:00 [3]

Jog to start.

Friday Sep 6, 2019 #

Note

saw physio - lots of tightness and knotted bits but no structural damage. rolling, massage and a bit of stretching. Hey-ho!

Thursday Sep 5, 2019 #

cycling 35:00 [4]

Home to Dinnet to pick up van. Kept it hard going all the way. Calf a bit sensitive at start but eased off.

orienteering 15:00 [2]

Hanging controls for After-school club

Wednesday Sep 4, 2019 #

steady run warm up/down 12:00 [3]

To start of WeTT from Swans Neck parking

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

WeTT in Glen Tanar. I'd forgotten how tough parts of the area are... or maybe just got softer :-)
Jarred left leg going into first control and felt a tweak high in left calf (same muscle group but 10-12cm higher than original problems. Carrie don and completed whole course, aware of little gripes and tweaks along the way but nothing too painful. Not very quick - being too cautious on leg to manage anything fast.
Physio booked for Friday morning :-)

Tuesday Sep 3, 2019 #

Note

All day travelling to/from Birmingham for meeting.

Monday Sep 2, 2019 #

steady run 14:00 [3]

Wee run at hill of Banchory pre-pilates. Calf was OK, fingers crossed.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Tough session using "soft-balls" - I kid you nor ;-)
Noticed calf a couple of times on heel lifts and stretching at end but not painful. Feel the session might have eased things even more.
Fingers crossed.

Sunday Sep 1, 2019 #

orienteering 20:00 [3]

Hanging controls for club training. Calf noticeable but not painful.

orienteering 30:00 [3]

Collecting controls. Calf still OK, maybe even better. slight tightness feeling near end when I sped up.
Happy it seems to be a bit better than yesterday - maybe the pulling feeling was scarring stretching?
