Birse, games track, over to Birse Castle then back via Glen Cat. Struggling on hills, legs still feeling pretty tired, not sure why.

Planned to survey, but raining hard and blowing hard all day till 3pm, the too late. Ditto training, never felt like going out the door so didn't.

orienteering race 48:00 [4]

DNC Balmedie. Windy and raining off and on - but sand-blasting on ht loose sand areas was the worst part!
Started OK, but lost time at 5 - wrongly placed control? and turned wrong way, then missed 6 as a consequence. Got going well for a while but tired and struggling to read map towards end.
Pleased with performance mostly - especially as it took 95 minutes to get there (road blocked with tree, roads blocked with queuing cars, bypass unsigned so took long slow extra detour... Anyway by next year it must be open - even the private sector companies can't be more than a year late... can they?

With S, head-torch run, lap of Dess Woods and fields. Legs feeling weak, probably just as well I dipped out of Aboyne intervals.

grovel round placing a few kites for training. Legs in a shockingly poor state. Serious recovery needed.

Ballater to Carn Leuchan and back. Feeling terrible, legs shot from last nights race. Real struggle up hill so turned and came back down same way - steady grovel all way down - at least the track was a reasonable angle for easy running.

Cnoc Dubh hill race (that doesn't go to the top of the hill but does a circuit of it...).
First race (other than O) for about 3 years - and I felt every day of that time. Grim climbs and then enjoyed the path through woods then long downhill forest road to finish cost me 3 places. Not sure whether to puke or sh1t near the end... guess I can still push hard, just the outcome is now just slow.

Collecting controls at Pannanich. Uphills feeling dire but OK on flat or down. Still very tired after yesterday - and calves tight in deep muscle - must have been working hard!

Stopped off on return from Aberdeen late morning. Counteswells and Kingshill, 10x2+1. Started very well, struggled horribly on 4 (lots of uphill and 7 & 8 were tough on flats after downhill starts. 9 & 10 were survival. Trying to move legs quicker and more like Willy's circular feet (from Sunday drills).

Counteswells from near Cults road (avoiding pay car park). Out to west and intervals, 2 in C, 6 round Kingshill and 2 back.

Pannanich, up to collect start post and back - 12 up 6 down! Legs feeling shafted.

Bridge of Brown, along river Brown then up Tom na suidhe mor and back. Lovely braided river (though crossing it 10 times was a bit wearing!) and good views from top. Good burn up down - though dropped for dead by the youngsters ;-)

orienteering 45:00 [4]

Compass and contour exercise on Dinnet South (non-embargoed!!!). Pleased with how strong I felt (albeit fairly steady pace through the terrain).
Good training 3-Day and great company from the Maroc juniors and S, D & R

Rothiemurchus car park to Loch an Eilean and lap of paths and back. Mostly OK but got a bit pacey at start of return, stern words to some fo the juniors had the desired effect!

Core strength and stretching at Running the Highlands. Nice little warm-up session.

Reverse Balmoral 10km route. Started at front chatting to one guy (turned out he hadn't ru the last 2 days because of a cold) and he upped the pace immediately. Did my best to rein him in a little but he eventually disappeared off the front and I stuck to the next few runners. Still fairly pacey but felt comfortable with it and managed a few surges to catch front runners at critical times.
pleased with run - right leg felt good throughout.

Running the Highlands, 15 mile route at Balmoral. Started at decent pace , then took over guiding a runner at the back of the group, bad foot pains so lots of walking over last 40 minutes. Out for 3-20. Nice day - a couple of light showers but ran most in shorts and t-shirt.
