With S, Deeside Way towards Kinker, 5x2+1. Right achilles aching and got quite sore afterwards despite icing it. Still not good... need to try to resolve it - more work at icing, exercises and maybe anti-inflammatories.

With E to a birthday party near Torphins and back via Torphins, Lumphanan, south half of Lumphanan bowl, Boddomend and Deeside Way. Very pleasant day and little wind. Pushed uphills to make legs work - didn't really feel like it.

Dinnet, lap of Loch with butterfly loop added in. Feeling good and pushed pace from early on. Could feel right heel/achilles but not a problem. Lovely warm sunny day.

Mountain bike but mostly on roads - Deeside Way to west, up to Cross Roads, Tarland, Dinnet then Deesdie Way to Aboyne and back to Kinker on road, warm-down up the Deeside Way to home. Not sure how I would feel but really quite enjoyed it (after the first hill out of the Lumphanan bowl).
Only carved up twice - both between Aboyne and Kinker, couldn't quite catch the second car..... shame!

4.5 hours surveying, nice day but a bit midgy at lunchtime. saw another (or maybe the same) huge red deer stag plus a large hind near by. Both about 80m from a main road.

Glen Tanar Deeside Runners, 2 bridges loop, planned 6x2+1 but right achilles flared up half way through 6th effort, so cruised bakc from there and then stood in river for 5 minutes, the achilles eased a bit by the end of the return run and cold water has helped further. Need to restart icing.

orienteering race 57:00 [5]

Local race at Scolty, not very motivated but once I got going things were OK technically. Caught by Alex C early on, then out O-ed him for a few controls, then a long track run........ and he got away. Very tired for last third of course - in the flat fast bit and really struggled there.
Right achilles was a bit tweaky on run to start and early in course but eased off and actually much better by end. No pain at all now (5 hours later). I had cut the heel tabs on my O shoes, hopefully this will solve the problem.

Note

Good last 3 days - decent quality in bits and decent volume. Try something similar next weekend and then ease off a bit before VHIs. I'll also keep the survey at 3 days each week - enough to tire me a bit but not so much I can't train at all!

Glen Tanar with . Started near Tower O'Ess, west along road, cross at Braeloine, up to 2 bridges loop and diversion to little stable, then back on south drive. Wet and messy - lots of grit on bike, clothes and in mouth at times :-)
Good to get out and get something done.

With S, Lochnagar via loch outlet and then straight up the nose to summit - except we had to traverse round the spur due to horrendous winds (almost blown over a few times). Top in cloud (brief clearances) then into the wind to the Glad Allt track - had to battle down this - straight into the gale. Once down below bridge all was calm. Fun adventure - new route and tough weather conditions. Amazing how a local hill like Lochnagar can serve up such a variety of conditions.

Collecting controls from scout O last night. Surprised at being able to run, both because tired from survey and also worried about achilles. Achilles not too painful, just running a bit cautiously to avoid any bad tweaks on it.

After-school adventure running club, lap of Dess, very easy, very stop-start. Achilles not great but OK as pace so slow.

Hanging last 4 controls for scout O this evening - E & J did the other 17 during adventure running - good effort!

Started hard and by first control was feeling a bit whacked, just continued trying to red line it (both technically and physically). Managed it well - only time loss was after catching CA and getting slightly distracted, heading off too far right and losing 20-30 secs to him on the route (also I had missed seeing the new track that was mentioned in the start lane!).
Really pleased with race - 4 mins clear of MW. Need to try same focus and effort at VHIs.
Right achilles very tender after race - need to ice and look after it. I suspect my new (March) Icebugs might be irritating it. Must be careful and make sure it doesn't become a chronic problem. Maybe back on the bike for a bit this coming week. Also try my old orthotics and/or heel raises.

Middle race, started slightly unenthusiatically and missed first control - couldn't or didn't read paths/clearings well. Bumbled on, feeling fairly strong but not very technically clean or smooth. Bit of a time waste later with misunderstanding up and down (a tag would have helped). Held it together in green control pick near end. 2nd to Jase but could have been a bit quicker.

Deeside Way intervals, 6x2+1. Right leg had some nervy problems - need to persevere with fast running which seems to set off some nerve issues and weakness on right side.
Anyway session was good, worked hard, sweated a lot and legs sore at end (in a good way).

With S west along Deside Way, started at usual place on old railway and headed west, extra little loop towards track up to Mortlich.
