steady run 20:00 [3]

Round Dess Woods with E (on his bike, so I was left for dead!). had planned to go to Deeside Runners but E's piano over-ran by 30 minutes (basically double normal time - for free!).

steady run 10:00 [3]

Easy potter round Hill of Banchory, lovely morning.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Matwork, but still tough in places.

Note

1 hour surveying - easy wander round checking a few bits and pieces and control sites for permanent posts.

steady run 10:00 [3]

After-school running club, a bit of easy running and one push up a hill (to get to the "turning point" for the kids race! Legs felt pretty meh....

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

To start and back (to check set-up, then back to start my own course. feeling a bit washed out.

orienteering race 1:07:00 [5]

Brown course Potties. Not feeling great from the start - struggling on uphills - walked most of them. Vegetation was just at the edge - bracken well up but not too badly spread out, grass up and marshes tough. Heavy going all the way. Felt really bad from about 70% - really struggling to keep moving.

Saturday Jun 27, 2015 #

Note

Rest day - but 3 hours chain-sawing and grass cutting and log barrowing/stacking.... not very restful.

Friday Jun 26, 2015 #

Note

1.5 hours surveying. Pleasant day

steady run 21:00 [3]

Run in to check a remote part of map. Uphill so legs not feeling great!

Thursday Jun 25, 2015 #

Note

1.5 hours surveying, pleasant day but cloudy again.

steady run 41:00 [3]

Victory Hall to Tarland Way, up to high point then left into Balnagowan, round ride to west and back along track and Deeside way. Not feeling very bright, legs got better as run progressed.

Tuesday Jun 23, 2015 #

orienteering 46:00 [5]

O course in Deeside, good forest but tired legs - walked lots of uphills.

steady run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

short jog to start

Monday Jun 22, 2015 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

steady run 15:00 [3]

Easy run over to Activity Park and warm-up with after-school club. Legs shot from pilates (again!).

orienteering race 1:09:00 [5]

SOL Dunalastair. Feeling very tired - bad night's sleep (camping), too much wine and legs shot from Tullochroisk. Tried a bit of warming-up but legs still feeling awful. Technique was mostly OK, but not really tight enough and certainly struggling to run in the rough and rocks, tried to push in places but struggling to keep effort high. Performance not as good as yesterday and no results yet.

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

orienteering race 53:10 [5]

SOL at Tullochroisk. Not sure how I'd feel after Thursdays race and Fridays effort. Surprised at how good legs felt on warming up, so pushed hard, pleased to spot the killer route choice 12-13, got me into 1st place and managed to grovel quickly enough from there to hold QH off by 25 secs. Pleased with performance, attacking the running and (mostly) in control of the O.

steady run warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Friday Jun 19, 2015 #

Note

3.5 hours surveying, legs heavy and tired, very hungry by end!

Thursday Jun 18, 2015 #

steady run 28:00 [3]

Steady run round Bennachie with S. Legs feeling much better.

Hill Race 32:51 [5]

A race - and actual race! Only decided to do it at 4pm...... A Cosmics summer series race at east end of Hill of Fare - round route up to mast and down short steep route.
Started and felt utterly dreadful for first 6-8 minutes, then felt better and caught time on a big group ahead, stayed in touch to summit (caught Dennis just before mast), then good blast down steep track - tough in places. Never troubling Dave H but only 35 secs down on him. Winner Peter H 28-25.
Pleased with how the race developed, but puzzled about how crap I felt early on - barely shuffling along. Maybe still heavy legged from the hours over the past month?

Wednesday Jun 17, 2015 #

steady run 22:00 [3]

Checking controls at a schools festival at Bennachie. Nice morning, but midgey for a while....

Tuesday Jun 16, 2015 #

Run at Hill of Banchory, glorious sunny morning.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

steady run 25:00 [3]

After-school running club, lap of Dess with a handful of 30sec sprints thrown in on the hill up from the Deeside Way bridge.

Sunday Jun 14, 2015 #

Note

Rest day - late night watching Jukola and I've been feeling a bit wappit most of the week - long slow runs catching up maybe.

Saturday Jun 13, 2015 #

Road race 20:36 [5]

Hazlehead parkrun. Feeling heavy legged after the past week (and particularly after yesterdays run in the sun!). As soon as I hit the first hill I knew it wasn't a great day, legs tired and people streaming past me. Tried to work but relapsed back to slower pace too often - heard sarah behind me early on and did manage to speed up a bit then ;-)
Same on return - and also got a twinge of a stitch then a tiny hint of hamstring tightness.
Surprised not to be slower than I was - only 35 secs off best time here.
I can do quicker, I think there is fitness inside - just a bit hidden by tiredness, not sure when next attempt will be, busy for a while now.

steady run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Good long warm-up and a bit of a jog after.

stretching 10:00 [1]

Friday Jun 12, 2015 #

steady run 1:13:00 [3]

Home to Mortlich via Lodge on the Loch and back direct tracks. WW3 was breaking out as I climbed from Aboyne Loch - some gamies shooting range or boys playing with rifles...... Still they all missed me:-)
Legs feeling crap on climbs but fairly quick and smooth on descent, hope they can manage fast for tomorrow morning.

Thursday Jun 11, 2015 #

steady run 28:00 [3]

Lap of Dess Woods (summer route - ie avoiding psycho-buzz). Very pleasant morning.

Wednesday Jun 10, 2015 #

steady run 1:30:00 [3]

Glen Feadar- to top of hill at west of map and then over to Auchtavan (both DR points). Legs compeltlely crippled at start - could hardly hobble, gradually eased off but still very tired muscles and low energy. On hte positive it was a superb day - hot and sunny, great views to Lochnagar and other hills.

Tuesday Jun 9, 2015 #

Note

1.5 hours surveying, lovely warm sunny day.

Intervals 18:00 [5]

Glen Tanar with Deeside Runners, 2 bridges loop with 6x2+1 on flat and 6x1+1 on hills. Going well early on then struggling a bit more. Good battle with DH and CW.
Pleased with session - felt I kept working and ground it out.

steady run warm up/down 46:00 [3]

Usual warm-up to bridge and back via mill pond.

Monday Jun 8, 2015 #

steady run 9:00 [3]

Only time for a very short jog at Hill of Banchory.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Another tough session.

Sunday Jun 7, 2015 #

steady run 1:10:00 [3]

Guiding - Aboyne bridge, up Fungle, turn onto moor and along to path above Osprey nest (no bird sitting today) then down through plantation to Braeloine. Better pace than yesterday but still some walking up hills. Weather fine - a bit breezy but nothing like yesterday.

Saturday Jun 6, 2015 #

steady run 3:15:00 [2]

Guiding for Running the Highlands. Inver car park to barbecue hut, waterfall/green bridge, up to hut below Carn Sagairt Mor (too windy to go higher), back down hill then right turn onto single track over to Ripe Hill loop, took slow group so missed Princes Stone and then left turn, finishing at Easter Balmoral. Ran out from bus at Glen Muick car park to meet longer run group coming down main track from Lochnagar. Very strong winds all day - gale force higher up and so original epic route was abandoned. Second choice was still a great run - must do it again in better weather some day! - and this time visit the Princes Stone!
Putting level 2 as too much walking or jogging to qualify as level 3.

Friday Jun 5, 2015 #

steady run 1:50:00 [3]

Running the Highlands - Glen Quoich to Glen Lui with group of 10. Very pleasant run - mostly sunny, a couple of light showers, then cleared up gloriously. Lovely late afternoon drive back down Deeside.

Thursday Jun 4, 2015 #

steady run 1:00:00 [3]

With S - Cambus to west (to find a camera case she dropped on a previous visit - success! then back east through Cambus to Cnoc Dubh, back through terrain to Cambus and big track to car park. Legs not feeling very bright, need recovery by tomorrow for RtH run up Glen Quoich.

Wednesday Jun 3, 2015 #

Note

5 hours surveying. Legs very tired from last night, dragging them up hills and over heather. Pleasant day, a few showers but not enough for a waterproof & quite warm when the sun came out.

Tuesday Jun 2, 2015 #

Intervals 22:00 [5]

Glen Tanar, original route 5x4+2+1x2 (to get to top of last hill).
3 doing it - Warren, Dave C and me, felt stronger as session went on (at least until half way up last hill!). Good tough session to get done, pleased with sticking to plan rather than joining the majority who did 2+1's round 2 bridges loop.

steady run warm up/down 50:00 [3]

Slow overall time - very tired by end, slightly wobbly head - food.

stretching 12:00 [1]

Much needed!

Monday Jun 1, 2015 #
